The Battle of the Bands ~ Alt. Rock Throwdown!!

Today ladies and gentlemen (and I abuse the terms loosely) Sister Tay and I are goin to present you all with two songs. Both recent Alternative Rock Massive Airplay Monsters! This will be the most difficult judging assignment ever presented to The Battle of the Bands voters.

Having only recently been housebroken, and possessing a bare modicum of civility and indeed ... manners. I'll go first........

Holiday

by Riva, scourge of the Sea of Storms and Pirate of Pennants

Being a red blooded American boy of indeterminate age this Billie Joe Armstrong pinned song fills my raging breast with the fires of Rebellion! It first appeared on the CD American Idiot and quickly gained notoriety as being Anti American but as Armstrong himself announces now and again before it's performed "This next song's a big 'up yours'' to all the politicians. This song's called Holiday! This song is not anti-American; it's anti-war!"

Of course some consider that to be the same thing. But not I!! I consider it a Rock and Roll "Call to Arms Protest Song" of the first order. A veritable masterpiece of screaming angry young man rage against the powers that be. Whoever the H E Doublehockysticks THEY are....

My Friends I urge you to vote in this Alt. Rock Throwdown Battle of the Bands for ...  HOLIDAY!! <<link  ;)

Okay folks... to make this a battle, my sister Taymist is gonna present HER idea of an alt. rock anthem. From some effete English crew that gets Waaay to much airplay IMNSHO....

Clocks

by Taymist, mind rummager and music critic extraordinaire.

This song has been heard everywhere from the American TV show ER, to adverts for the movie Peter Pan since it was released in 2003. It combines very intense lyrics about what else, angst and alienation, with really simple piano, bass and drums. But that sparse simplicity makes the song even more sparkling and memorable as it's repetitiveness weaves it's way into ones mind. It has a really lovely melody and for some reason it's very calming to me even with it's anthem like feel. I like it is all that really matters and I urge you all to vote for

WELL........ There ya have it.. Two grandiose Alternative Rock Massive Airplay Monsters for you to choose from... Vote for your favorite Right Here! Right Now!

Didn't like the first one at all.

The Chili Pipers rocked big time! So they get my vote. I listened to their cover of We Will Rock You too - just awesome!

And my vote is not influenced by Clocks, Coldplay and U.C.L.! lol!

Okay, So I am not quite sure what I am voting for here.

I would give Hayseed Dixie the vote for group, because I get a big kick outta most of thier stuff.

I would give Red Hot Chilli Pipers the vote for performance, because the bagpipes go very well with Clocks.

In terms of Which best fits the Alternative category, Green Day gets that vote as Coldplay is a bit softer, less edgy.

As far as which song I like better.....I am a bit partial to Clocks.  That could be simply more exposure to it, because I like both songs, but it gets the vote.  ;)

If one reads closely, one will see no mention of either Coldplay or Green Day.

Thusly ;D Ya'll are votin for the version of these two songs you like best... nicely figured out Sam  ;)

i would also hope, the modicum of satirical humour presented would slightly amuse the reader

Thank You All for your interest and replies!

When Sis turned me on to The Red Hot Chili Pipers this idea to do a bit of a satire on Corki's BotB idea just flashed like a super nova. The notion to have them battle it out with Missouri's own Hayseed Dixie was an equally quick notion. I really like the idea both groups have had to do send ups or tributes to modern music in old folk music styles of their regions. HD use humour more than The Pipers to spice up what they do and their versions consistently make me shoot liquids out my nasal passages.... BUT

Like the rest of you I'm partial to CLOCKS done by The Pipers... It really had the feel of the original I think and with the Pipes carrying the load it is a really eerie feeling piece... I don't know what it is.. maybe its in my genetic makeup. Or maybe it's an ancient sound of humans thing... But the Pipes make my heart soar.
