The Ultimate Staring Contest

Who do YOU think would win?  There are many references in the books to various kinds of stares, or scowls, or whatever you wish to call them.  There are icy stares from Aes Sedai/Wise Ones mostly, as well as staring daggers from various people as well. There has probably been something akin to staring red hot flames as well.

While thinking on this do not forget the Atha'an Miere, they can match the Aes Sedai stare for stare.

Personally I seem to think that either Sorilea or Cadsuane have the best stares of them all. Sorilea can measure you up and down with a look and give you a damn good tongue lashing to boot. This does not seem to work on Cadsuane.  Therefore I believe that Cadsuane can match her stare for stare.

We keep hearing that 'the look of the Eyeless is fear.' Even Borderlanders and Aes Sedai get scared when a Myrdraal stares. That guy's got the normal scariness and then some.

But thinking about it.... I think Lan would win against anyone except an Ogier (Seanchan, natch) or an Aes Sedai. He's too formal to beat an Aes Sedai, he'd defer to her because it's proper. Ogier are just crazy. I bet they could stare down a rock.

You're just angry because the Myrrdraal would always win!  How can it be cruel to let someone who is constantly being beaten on by Rand, Fain, the Forsaken, the Aes Sedai, the Asha'man, and any other major character to win once in a while?  Myrrdraal have basically been relegated from scary opponent to cannon fodder #2 as the series has gone on.

 

Of course, this all depends on the definition of blinking.  Could it be said that Myrrdraal's eyes are always closed?  Then it would be cruel.

Hey, if a legless man wanted to be in a marathon, I wouldn't be one to stop him! Ever seen people racing in wheelchairs? It happens all the time. Most of them are pretty good. They could outdo me, and I have two legs. Keeping Shaidar out of a staring contest could be considered discriminating against the disabled. =P

 

You'd just have to modify the contest. His opponent would have to blink, but Shaidar would lose if he looked away, or something like that. I'd like to see him in a staring contest with Sorilea. That would be interesting...

I used to be a member of the Shayol Ghul community here at DM. I can safely say that Myrddraal are useless creations and that the Shadowspawn at large are mostly insane little things that would sooner hump your leg than kill you.

Actually, the Dark Hounds are the most tame of the SS. I was referring more to the Trollocs and Myrddraal.
