How far ahead did Moiraine see?

In book 4, Moiraine accosts Thom and insists that he ought to go to Tanchico with Nyn/Ely. She says outright that HE WILL SRUVIVE TANCHICO. She says:

"I will see you again."

Quite obviously, she got this from the Finns. But, just how far did she see? We may assume that she knew nothing of having to fight Lanfear till she passed through the rings.

If she said that she would see him again, does that mean her rescue will be 100% successful?

Not necessarily.

As her letter says, anything from one to all of them may die.  Anything from one to all of them may live.

If it's Thom, Mat, and "one other", there is a chance that all will live, but no guarantee even then.

( That's the setup, at any rate.  Too much has gone into that portion of the story for them to fail, but we gotta at least pretend that there's some doubt. )

Moiraine got it from the rings, she states in the letter that she saw three possibilities with Rand.

The thing about this is the Oaths make it so you cant say something unless you  BELIEVE it to be true. The rings dont tell a definite future do they? Only possibilities; she knew she had to tackle Lanfear to avoid certain other possibilities. So, while she knew Thom would survive Tanchico I think she was saying "I will see you again" as a short term thing and not referring to her glimpses of futures, as in meaning I will see you after you get back from Tanchico. She is human, she still makes mistakes.

As I said, the Oath will let you say something if you believe it to be true, hence Moiraine being able to say something that might not be definite. It doesnt by any means go off what you say is actually true or not, only what you believe. Otherwise, if the Oath went off what WAS IN FACT true rather than the beliefs, then it would be the biggest advantage in the world ever. All they would need to do is try declaring every Aes Sedai as Black Ajah one by one, and those that they could actually say it for would turn out to be Black Ajah.

Although I do think Moiraines rescue will be successful, I dont think what she said about seeing Thom again is anything to go off on this subject. We all know Moiraine will be back because shes Moiraine (ALSO, Rand will fail without a woman dead and gone?), Mat is needed obviously, and Moiraine knew the face of the man she would marry long ago, so Thom aint dying unless they take wedding vows while the Finns sit around and wait.

ok im gonna bring this up here since this seems a good place to introduce this, what of Moraine's letter to Rand?

She makes it very clear she knows something of an event in the future but *nothing else*

what is this one last thing, or can anyone explain this to me?

No. This was before they went to the Aiel Waste.

If you re-read that actual scene, you will see how firmly Moiraine stated that. The word 'will' is put in italics in the book. It was no casual statement. It was a firm belief.

She says in the letter:

You see, I do not know of what happens in the world after, except perhaps for one small thing which does not concern you.

It refers to her rescue. She knew beforehand that it may be possible for Mat/Thom/3rd guy to rescue her. It does not concern Rand.
