Strike Talk....

Both the Writers Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers have issued a statement confirming that the groups will begin informal discussions today to determine if there is a basis for both parties to return to formal negotiations.

The move comes a week after the Director's Guild and the AMPTP reached a three-year tentative agreement over their issues, resolving in several days the arguments that the writers and the AMPTP have been having for months with no sign of ending.

The AMPTP and the WGA have agreed to make no public comments about the informal discussions until those discussions have concluded. It's hoped that using the DGA agreement as their framework, once formal negotiations resume that they will be resolved relatively quickly - ending the months-long strike that's having a devastating impact on the LA economy.

Good news for cable subscribers: Don Draper and Nancy Botwin are getting fresh dialogue.

Thanks to an interim agreement struck by Lionsgate and the WGA on Thursday, “Mad Men” and “Weeds” writers will begin pounding out new teleplays for their acclaimed series as early as Monday.

Besides Lionsgate, there are now 12 companies with interim WGA deals: Jackson Bites (“Jumper”), Marvel (“Iron Man”), Media Rights Capital (“Babel,” “Sleuth”), RKO (“Are We Done Yet?”), Sidney Kimmel Entertainment (“The Kite Runner”), Spyglass Entertainment (“27 Dresses”), United Artists (“Lions For Lambs”), The Weinstein Company (“The Mist,” “Rambo”), Worldwide Pants (“The Late Show With David Letterman”) and Mandate Films (no idea).
