LOST - season 4 *Possible Spoilers*

Season 4 of Lost has been pretty good, possibly the best season so far. However, I am struggling to work out how the hell they would have strung this out to 24 episodes if ABC hadn't agreed to the shorter seasons. That, and the writer's strike making things even tighter, may have been blessings in disguise.

Anyway, spoilers for the Season finale:

We find out who is the coffin from the S3 finale. It is HUGE. The biggest death since the show began.

We find out who is left alive on the Island and some clues on how they and the Others are going to get on in the future.

The fate of the people on the freighter is going to left somewhat ambiguous (although the freighter's fate itself is rather obvious from last week's ep). One regular character definitely, 100% dies on board the freighter; the fates of two others will be left unclear, but one of them is presumed dead by the Oceanic Six (no prizes for guessing which one).

We find out more about the Orchid Station, including something in its basement that is very, very interesting and eye-opening, and will no doubt unleash massive, rampant and renewed speculation about the true nature of the Island, its purpose and capabilities. We find out why Ben was wearing a parka in the Tunisian desert, and discover how they are going to resolve the time differential between the Island and the O6 storyline.

There is a scene that takes place immediately after the Jack/Kate scene in the S3 finale which takes us further in the future than ever before. From various hints, it appears that S5 will pick up at this point and drive the series forwards both on and off the Island. However, the flashbacks won't be elminated entirely, as Danielle's backstory will be explored and Miles, Dan and Charlotte have further flashbacks planned for them. The producers have said there won't be any more filler flashbacks, only stuff that is important to the characters or the ongoing storylines.

Interestingly, the released spoilers don't mention anything about Charles Widmore, Penny, the Arctic station guys, Christian Shepherd or Walt, all of whom are in the cast list for the episode. Speculation is that the Arctic station guys pick up the new EMP anomaly when the Island is 'moved' and there will be a second purple sky event, which they report to Penny. The nature of the ending means that Penny's hopes to be reunited with Desmond are going to take a bit of a knock, at least for a while.

Ok so we called Locke in the casket like... way back when.  We even got the Jeremy Bentham name right.  But the island disappearing... that was awesome! Jin dead and Michael dead... well we knew all that.  What if Jin got off the boat at the last minute though?  I bet he did somehow.

Bigger questions.  How and why did Locke leave the island?  Did Sayid kill him?

I think it is interesting that Locke took on the identity of John Bentham.  As you may or may not know, the philosopher John Locke emphasized the rights of the individual while the philosopher Jeremy Bentham emphasized actions that benefit the group sometimes at the expense of the individual or (the ends justify the means mentality)..

"You can go now, Michael" - Chilling.

During her flash-forward dream sequence, Kate receives a garbled phone call. When played backwards, the message states: "The Island needs you. You have to go back before it's too late."

That was my first thought when the freighter exploded. As it was filmed, Jin had  plenty of time to get off the ship. And, him surviving would somewhat excuse Suns coming deal with the Devil.

And I strongly doubt Sayid killed Locke. He is working for Ben, and for Bens plan to work, an alive Locke would make things much easier. Waltzing around with a corpse for who knows how long is not exactly a brilliant idea.

When Ben went down to the icy cave, am I the only one who thought the writings on the pillars looked kinda...alien?
