Min and Far Madding

Why did the inn keeper think Jim was married to Rand?  Many filters have many wives and some nave many husbands.  We aren't used that in the USA.  While we.are not a Christian Nation, we do have Christianity as the major Religion.  In Hebrew Bible in those stories time men had multiple wives if I recall.    But why Min?  Just a local assumption?

Were they not staying/traveling together? So they just assumed that they were married, obviously putting the same stock in marriage as patriarchal societies do.

I am pretty they were sharing a room which the innkeeper would be aware of. Having Rand and Min claiming to be married would be a way to more easily blend in as across most of randland unmarried men and woman sharing a room would be considered scandalous.
