I almost laughed out loud (LOL).

 

I doubt that Carly Simon ever performed in those clothes but it was a fun temporary mental picture.

 

I heard that James Taylor could have been the vain guy but that would just be too obvious.

I've heard that about artists of the time. My boss says that if you pay attention to the lyrics, "Doctor My Eyes" is an extremely depressing song. Me, I've never been bummed out by a song, and I don't care about the lyrics beyond putting a more defined identity to the song. I judge primarily on the music (and vocals), and James Taylor is the musical equivalent of a sleeping pill.

I forget where I saw it linked, but somewhere on the internet someone posted scans of the 1973 Sears catalog, and I could not stop laughing. Everyone looked like they were wearing clown costumes! So glad I didn't live through that decade.

aesthetics change. culture influences how we view everything. things are ugly or beautiful depending on many things inlcuding time frame.
