Anyone else suffering through the joy of braces? ?

I had a severe overbite (it was at 110% according to the orthodontist!), but I never went to the dentist as a kid, and it never really affected me until my late twenties, so nothing was ever done about it. But when it started to give me consistent pain inside my ears, I figured it was only going to get worse as I got older, so a year ago I got them as an adult.

It was awful for the first couple of months, and my first visit to get them tightened was excruciating ? it's gotten better though and I've gotten used to them. There are certain things I can do already without pain and they've been worth it just for that - makes me realise how bad it must have been and how you can get used to anything ?

Anyway I got elastics put on today, it's very uncomfortable and feels so weird! Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get used to them.

Who else is a metal mouth like me? Or had them as a teenager and remembers the horrors ?

My daughter got hers this year.  So far so good.  She hasn't had any complaints other than a wire scratching her cheek for a little bit.  Now it doesn't bother her any more.  We will see how the first tightening goes.

Yeah you pretty quickly get used to it. Its not until you get some kind of drastic adjustment then the pain returns. But after a few days your brain just sorta gets used to it.

Had them as an adult and got them taken off about 3 years ago.  Don't know that I'd do it again, but then I didn't have a medical issue associated with them either.

Plus side - teeth are straight

Bad side - Constantly getting food stuck between my teeth now - didn't have that problem when they were all crowded.  Probably only I notice this, but the left side of my mouth closes faster than the right - so as the left teeth come together there is a gap on the right.  And it took at least a year longer than they said.

Ooh, see I'm a little worried about it taking longer for me too, as adult teeth are tougher to move than a teenager's. And with your bite gap, was that something you only noticed once they came off?
