Ask the Chosen: Big City versus Country Livin'
Dear Chosen,
I was recently accepted to my first choice graduate school program in
Genetics...I *heart* Aginor. But when I visited to see the campus and
city, it was crowded, smoggy and generally dismal. Should this country
girl haul her life to the big dirty city to fulfill dreams of
resurrecting the draghkar in this world? Or accept a less exciting
position in an area of the country that isn't known for how affordable
it's meth is?
Thanks,
Lady in Latex
Lady in Latex... Well, that does conjure some interesting mental pictures. However, that's neither here nor there. This all, of course, hinges on one single question: do you use this "meth" stuff, whatever it is? From there, I guess your decision rests on whether you really need this "meth," if indeed you use it. If not, then what does country life hold for you? Do you really want a home where the buffalo roam, or would you prefer big city living? Let us take a moment to compare.
The city is well-known for its criminal element, its squalor, its noise, its smog. None of these are what I'd call ideal, but then again, we had a much cleaner way of doing things back in the day. The only reason why I would ever choose the city over the country is that the city is the only place where one can find concert halls, ballets, and opera. That's the good life, if you ask me.
On the other hand, the country is wide-open, with some of the most amazing views in the world... unless the country happens to be in one of those boring "central US" states or whatnot. You know the type: you can stand on one border, and clearly see the far border for lack of anything in between. If you can stand the boredom, then it's not bad, especially for somebody with a genetics degree. If you're doing animal genetics, you'd be in the country anyway.
In conclusion, a word of advice: be careful how you address Aginor, especially when it comes to biology, genetics, or anatomy. He might just decide to prove you right on the whole "heart" thing.
