Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

[...] Monday, September 17th, 2007 in Books, General Discussion My favorite living author today joined the ranks of my favorite authors on the other side of “the gray rain curtain of this world.” James Oliver Rigney, jr. (pen name Robert Jordan) died of Primary Cardiac Amyloidosis. When i learned of his diagnosis last year and then learned a bit more about the disease, I knew it was only a matter of time. Despite the Mayo clinic bringing promising new treatments to bear and his remarkable resiliency, once that diagnosis is made, it’s only a year or two at most. I am very sad at the loss of course despite being prepared for it and though I am confident we will see the final volume of the Wheel Of Time completed and published, it’s not even remotely the same as having the man out there somewhere. So, my condolences-meager as their effects may be-to Harriet, Wilson, and the Rigney family. Here is the official announcement reprinted from Dragonmount.com [...]

My first thoughts are of Harriet, who I do not know, but I do know is an amazing person. Then of kind Wilson, 4th of 3, who has so generously kept us updated. To all the family, my hugs and prayers. I never knew Mr. Jordan, but his words took me away from it all when I needed it—for that, I am grateful.

When I heard about this earlier today, I couldn't believe it. I was shocked. I knew it was possible, but I didn't expect it to happen.

May you rest in peace man. From the number of replies here, its obvious how much you'll be missed. Thanks for the great novels and may you be happy wherever you are.

I would like to extend my condolences to the family and say that Robert Jordan was just such a wonderful person. Even through everything he seemed to stay upbeat...even when he didn't want to. Just a great author who lost such a terrible battle. I'm so sorry.

Wow.

From his inspirational posts here, i really did think he would be with us forever...

I am a late-commer to the WoT. I have been reading them for a year or so now, and am currently almost done with book 9. It has kept me enthralled....

I really have no words....

Mr. Jordan, rest in eternal peace. Your suffering is at last at an end.

R.I.P Mr.Jordan,

I hope his family is able to cope with their loss. His chances of survival were less but even to a stranger like me, his loss was unexpected. I am sure he will never be forgotten.

Dear Mrs Jordan, I hope completing the work Mr Jordan started is not too painful for you. I do not want to ask you to complete it because it sounds selfish on my part. I heard you are planning to complete the series. I am sure you will do a great job at it.

To Harriet, Wilson and the entire Rigney family,

Thank you for taking the time to let us all know about James' untimely passing. To think of all of us at a time of deep sorrow was a wonderful, heroic, selfless act. There is no doubt in my mind that all of you are there in his writings as the most loveable of his characters.

My children nagged me into reading The WoT books at a time in my life when I just wanted to end my life. His rich stories let me escape my own depression and helpless feelings. I HAD to find out what was on the next page. I learned life lessons from his books that will be with me always. I have read and re-read the series and know I will continue to do so for the rest of my life.

Harriet, thank you for taking care of him. Wilson, take care of James' Harriet, it is her time for comfort. My prayers are with you all.

May the peace of God be with all of you.

Judy

This truly is a sad day. I have hoped, feared, wondered, laughed, and grieved with the characters of the Wheel of Time for more than fifteen years. I have communicated with dozens of people across the 'Net and made new friendships based on a common interest in RJ's work.

Thank you for enriching my life for so long. I pray for the safe repose of your soul, and that your loved ones find peace and consolation soon.

Yesterday was a sad day when I learned of Robert Jordan's passing. But he merely passed on physically, his creative spirit is left behind for all of us to appreciate in his work. What better legacy can a man want?

Oh this is so sad =(

I was hoping he would live on, that man seemed like one heck of a fighter! I like fighters like him...

My deepest condolences to his family. I know how much help it can be when someone, just anyone cares. And for Robert Jordan, I know that many people care, and that many people will remember this day.

Harriet, I don't know much about you. Other than that Robert put your name in almost every of his Wheel of Time books, it seemed he loved you a lot from those words he wrote about you. You must have been his True Source.

I picked up his first book (Eye of the World) on a lark 1 day. Very few books capture me the way his did. From the way he wrote, to the way his characters acted to the way the battles played out. You could and often did identify with them in almost all of their various aspects.

Mr Jordan, you opened up a world to not only me, but millions of others. That world will live on, and through your fans, you will also live on.

I work nights, 12 hours a day, 4 days a week. I have had to buy new copies of the books because I have readthem so many times that they are literally falling apart. I cried when I read the news.

To the Jordan/Rigney family: RJ, may be gone physically, but remember, he will always be with you, in everything you do. My deepest and heartfelt condolences.

Thanks, Robert. Your books has made me and millions of fans to laugh and cry, and The Wheel of the Time-books are one of my favorite books. I write novels myself and those books have inspired me most of all.

I can't believe you're gone, Robert. But in fact you're not. You are always in our minds.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Robert's death yesterday. I had been following his progress via his blog and felt that with his attitude it was only a matter of time before he fought off the disease - I truly believed that.

I wanted to express my condolences to his family and to let them know what they do already - that he was a remarkable man, whose writing has and continues to touch the lives of many.

He will be greatly missed.

The world seems a little grayer for this news.

My friends and I started reading the Wheel of Time series in high school, and it gave us all a sense of community and personality that we had been missing. Though we've grown up and gone our separate ways now, I can still remember when we decided to assign ourselves characters based on our appearance and skill with the opposite sex (Pat got to be Rand), or our uncanny ability to prophesy at inconvenient times (Jenni was Min), or just because we liked the character's name (I was Nynaeve).

God be with you all.
