haha oh @Padmehlc that's such an awesome game to play and i never would have thought of doing it! did you manage to stump him?

Nope, Keeper Cross Sedai. Not in almost 40 years. It started with Grandpa challenging us to eat our names at his house one summer and has ramped up since then. The initial challenge wasnt fair because the older generations all had short names and we all have long names so they always won even though we all mostly ate the same number of pancakes. They also got bored making the same few letters over and over so they challenged us to stump them one Christmas and it took off from there. One year when my sister and I were both starring in the Nutcracker dad started by surprising us with ourselves as pancakes as our first of the morning.

Wait, you mean you aren't fluent in the Old Tongue? Bruh.

Lol! I wish. But also pronounciation in the show is different than what was in my head reading the books - mostly syllable stress and vowel combinations but enough to make it more difficult to understand spoken over written (where I can look up words as well).

But I did fix it - aspect ratio was way off. Makes so much more sense now!

We didn’t have to turn them on. They were just there as part of the show. That’s really weird that you didn’t see them. The scene would have been incomprehensible without them.

Yup, that was my issue with the scene, it was completely incomprehensible because there were no subtitles for me. Ill have to retry and see if making it full screen projecting my laptop to my TV cut off the bottom and all the subtitles. Ill try watching with the smaller in browser screen....

  4. From reading through this thread it seems other people saw something different than I did in the AoL scene. Did some of you have subtitles? I couldnt understand any of what they were talking about and the visuals gave no clue - could have been discussing a school for the baby with it all in Old Tongue.  For anyone who did have subtitles - how do you turn them on just for that scene?

  5. You belong to the Blue Ajah!

Members of the Blue Ajah seek to right wrongs in the world, and are often on some kind of quest for justice in various forms. While their goals are often noble (though they need not be), it is not rare for a Blue to lose herself in her mission completely.

This is your result in its entirety:

    Green Ajah: 6
    Blue Ajah: 6
    Red Ajah: 5
    White Ajah: 3
    Brown Ajah: 3
    Yellow Ajah: 2
    Gray Ajah: 1

The last question was the tie breaker for my results Im sure and I ennie meenie minie moe'd between Blue and Green for that one, so expected but not helpful results... Looks like Im still making a 2 colored dress and changing out my shawls depending on my mood that day.

Well in the book they are passing  farms between the Waygate and Fal Dara.  By the way as a gardner I will say it is hard for trollocs to sneak through fields of turnips.  You could plant that right up to the wall.   No it isn't like the shire at all.

The waygates themselves were in gardens (all of them originally) in the books. But while you couldnt sneak in a turnip field that doesnt make it smart to put up against the fortifications of a city. Much smarter is a series of moats (especially spike filled dry moats) that would also stop or at least slow down the attackers. We see them go over what appears to be a drawbridge so a defensive moat of some kind is likely. And they need to be wide enough that a long angled ladder cant get the attackers across it.

I want to say Moiraine's lipstick is Trolloc Blood by Clinique, but I'm probably incorrect. Just a guess.

While an amusing answer, I am looking for the actual product. For example Liv Tyler wore Mac Soft blush is Shy Pink, Mac Eyeshadow in Vanilla (both of which I still need to find) and Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey which has been out for 50 years (and the oldest product still in production in thier line because so many people wear it still because Arwen did) and Natalie Portman wore Cover Girl eyeshadow - the Shimmering Sands trio.  All of them were commercially available at the time, so whatever the make up department put on Rosemund must be available now. And its such a unique color, any black eyeshadow and liner will work to get her eye look and foundation and blush really depend on the wearer but that lipstick color is distinctive.

  8. Hi all, back when SW prequels and LOTR came out Vogue (Im pretty sure thats the right magazine) had a feature with the lead make up artist and the full face maps for both Padme and Arwen were published with specific product names and colors allowing all the fans to exactly replicate thier looks if we chose. Has anyone published the face maps for any of the WOT characters/actors - specifically Moiraine? I want her lipstick and I cant figure out what it is.

  9. I seem to remember that in the books the land around cities in the borderlands was clearcut for a considerable distance so that they had a better view of everyone coming to help against Trolloc attacks. Perhaps the waygate is just inside the cleared zone. Farms there were also more fortified and would be on the side of the fort away from the gap, not closer to it than the main defense (fort) as they depended on them for a measure of protection. We didnt see much travel through inhabitted areas but where we did there was some indications of farms in the background - not as clear as they all could have been but Im hopeful for more when we get out of the wilderness for the majority of the time.

To be clear, it isn't for no reason.  I don't like my community being used as a superficial trope, again, for the purpose of throwing in some sex or "scandal" into an asexual book.  It's like banging two trash can lids together - trying to engage the viewer by throwing it in their face.  Make it worthwhile.  It very much feels like so far, gay, lesbian, and bisexual characters - my community, who I feel protective of - are being used to score shock value points.  It comes off as tokenism.  Subtlety is an art that so far seems to be lacking.  I understand this may go over many people's heads.  But please don't misinterpret this as homophobia.

While I can understand not wanting to be a trope also as a queer person, I dont see it happening here at all. Its all organic and shown as no big deal as it should. But also and more importantly the books are the furthest thing from asexual as you can get! Even in EotW there is blatant eroticism (Tinker dancing to start) and the books just get more steamy from there. It may be nuanced in description but it is very very clear what is happening particularly when looking at the 3 boys' relationships. Its refreshing that the same casual inclusion of queer relationships alongside the ones I hope are coming in future seasons.

Rafe has said Egwene is his favorite character. This is troublesome to me because I don’t think you he understands the nuance of the character.

At the end of the day Egwene is a powerful and strong woman…but ultimately a very flawed individual who believes her way is the best way.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this other than to say that anecdotally I’ve found people who loved Egwene really didn’t read WoT the way I did and don’t remember major points the way I do.

I dont think you can definitively say that just because she is his favorite character means he doesnt see those flaws in her. She was my favorite in the beginning BECAUSE of her belief that her way was the only right way.  I was the same age as she was supposed to be when I started reading it, and I felt the exact same way about everything myself but add Nynaeve's temper when anyone dared disagree with me. So she was my favorite because I could identify with her the most. (Same reason Hermione was my favorite in HP). Then meeting Faile and she was what I wished I could be and she became my favorite but aspirationally. I feel that the reason why she is his favorite character is/will be much more significant than just that she is.
