@AdamA if I look at pics from the 70s ... yeah, people were normal-sized. Not skinny.

When I look at my Dad's rugby club photos (early 70's) compared to mine (early 10's), and international rugby players of the era's - like for like, people (athletes) absolutely looked skinnier compared to now.

I'm not referring to fat, but muscle density.

Now physical and mental toughness... That's an entirely different story.

Imo hardship brings toughness (or death) vs (relative) ease through modern health and nutrition brings higher physical strength and size potential...

Struggling to link this back to the topic ??

You're not supposed to know anything about the Dragon now.  Learning about the Dragon is something that goes across multiple years and books.  It works best right now that it is mysterious and confusing...it is for our EF5.

I meant the prophecies, not The Dragon, apologies... And I do wish more had been mentioned of them by this point... But maybe they will be mentioned more soon.

Here is something to keep in mind about Amazon's adaptation of WoT. If the purpose of Rafe Judkins and Amazon was to produce the show in order to please book readers of RJ's work only, then they would not be targeting a big enough audience to make the show a huge success and justify the hundreds of millions of dollars already spent for seasons 1 & 2.

I believe that If this show is going to be a success, then it MUST have the largest majority of its audience come from viewers who enjoy watching fantasy but don't like reading door stop sized books. Considering that the show is getting mostly positive reviews from non-readers, then I believe that the show is well on its way to being successful.

See this is where I would question the the idea that the GA may like or need a different story to what the books told to enjoy it.

Change what is necessary to ensure the book story is well told in a visual medium. The story itself should be good enough to interest the GA. I don't think they're nailing that aspect as well as I'd have liked to date.

It's kind of telling that we know the importance of the bond better than we do, for example, the prophesies of the Dragon. For my Wife and I, we wish our kids watching had been told more about the Dragon at this point.

  4. I really think this is a very good example of a disconnect between casual viewers and some or many book fans.

Scene was fine, and imo very well acted (shirt rip aside, too much)... Was it necessary? Was it too long? Was the whole Steppin saga necessary, or the screen time devoted to it necessary...

Worth a good debate indeed ?

I certainly don't think the grief ceremony 'lessened' Lan. But would also have liked him to have been depicted (way) more competent.

just to clarify, im happy with the humanising of Lan

Just wondering what part of stoic, super-capable book Lan is not humanistic (is that even a word hehe)...

We're told humans come in many flavours. Why couldn't we get this one?

If it's because some think he would come across as 'boring' or one dimensional, I'd put the blame on the show writers, not the character. Since most of us thoroughly enjoyed book Lan.

I think the idea of adapting from book to show is an excuse too readily used to justify changes...

And I'm actually not arguing against change. I don't like changes for changes sake (which I think is happening quite a bit in this show).

But I also don't believe this show is being made for the book fans. Regardless of whether book fans accept, like or love it (I'm in the 'accept' camp at the moment).

As a greeting, Hi I'm Brendan from South Africa... I'd consider myself a farmer in the WOT universe.

Read the books from childhood and finished the series with my wife as a couple, so I've got a lot of feeling for this series ?
