S3E4 - The Road to the Spear
A Memory Of Why replied to SinisterDeath's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
Rand is seeing visions of his Aiel ancestors, every step further back in time. It's a bit confusing in the books too, it can help to think of the events backward, going forward in time. Keep in mind this happens over roughly 3500 years. In that vein: 1: 2: 3: 4: 5: 6: There's a bit more to the books but that's the gist of it π -
You're glossing over my points dude.. But eh, let's assume they're following the books; there's currently civil unrest that turns into a riot.. Maybe you're onto something? How unhappy would you be if your arguments are what / part of what leads to the riots? P.s. can we move on from GoT please, sureley its been long enough? So because a fantasy series does something graphic, horrible or edgy its always compared and found to be derivative? GoT doesn't own that. Be honest, if GoT didn't exist you'd still have a problem with this scene.

Wait, there aren't churches in this world are there, that's Liandrins family home right? Anywho if we're gunna nitpick and speculate on these issues i think it's just as likely as you're reasoning to suggest that in the slums of a dangerous city, maybe they did notice.. and maybe they only cared about taking advantage of the situation - e.g. Bobs more concerned about stealing their clientele and raiding their houses than what the witches have supposedly done.? Pulling from the books makes a bit more sense: I feel like they dont need all of these points for it to work, so maybe this is a WAFO situation yeah?

It was fantastic wasn't it, gripped me by his hairy bits the whole episode. To date no other episode gave me a sense of lost time like this, suddenly it's over and I'm thinking, wow that was an hour? Dang, if any episode deserved to be movie length.. blood and bloody ashes Amazon need to loosen the reigns and take a few steps back π -

Yep, I was pointing out when they return in the books (which is off screen) the lake is already formed. And in the teaser they're standing over Rhuidean and Moraine is wearing a different hat, an interesting hat π€ -
Dude, I would have been at the wedding, lookin all dapper and sh*t π

I can see why they didn't want Mat there, it's already got a lot going on and having a 3rd pov with something else out of this world could be a bit much, not to mention less time on Rand. He doesn't do much in the waste anywho, other than the Finns and complaining about being there. Regarding the Finns: I'm still going with my prediction from the trailer that Mat will go through a doorway in Tanchico and pop out in Rhuidean, in time for Rand to lead the Aiel back and find him hanging from the tree. Notice Moraines hat is different in the teaser as they're standing over Rhuidean, I'm thinking that's them coming back. Interestingly, Rhuidean is still foggy.. maybe a different fight will make Rand create the lake? Such a wetlander thing to do. -

Yeah I noticed that too. The whole series has been a bit like that, it's like they're can't afford extras.. don't they cost like a happy meal? ** insert meme - "can I offer you an egg in these trying times" ** -

That's interesting, it's a fan wiki but I wonder where they got these specific sounding details.. maybe the anniversary book thing that came out a few years ago? Anywho, it clearly states that "normal" compulsion uses verbal commands. Which to me implies there is other versions of compulsion that doesn't. I am currently sternly pointing my finger and shaking my head at you for making me read something that doesn't prove you're point dude. -

Ok, you made me read the scene, which is worrying as can lead to a reread and i have other things to experience. I will be strong this time.. I was also responding to you questioning implanting memories. Why would he need to sort out the sitters straight away, he had plenty of time whilst thr drama unfolded and I doubt they would break the ceremony to demand who he is, especially after Suian and her keeper recognise him. At this point we don't know that he's been around for "years". No, Elayne specifically began her mom not to hurt him. Which as I said implies she is capable of what her advisers were suggesting. -

I've already said my piece on the decade long issue, and provide speculative assumptions. But various uses of compulsion and implanting memories is totally in the books dude.. Speculative yes, and yet curiously you used it in your argument π And why does he need to be using "vast" number of weaves? (Using vast to describe it is what I'm questioning). The forsaken casually and easily channeling in comparison yo 3rd age channelers i find to be a great visual. Agree on the lack of weakness in heavily channeling that's shown. I noticed you didn't acknowledge my point here..? -

Eh, I don't mind much with the implanting memories with compulsion, it's in the sacred texts, just not how. Compulsion can be a tied off weave though its not exclusive - e.g. Graendel and moggy, not sure what you're quibble here is? And just gotta say any talk on area of effect compulsion is purely speculation and not worth arguing. I noticed you didn't comment on Elayne begging her mom not to hurt Rand? Which in my opinion shows the suggestions of her advisers were an option. Yeah, Bryne was being far more reasonable than Elaida, but I don't think he was in this scene was he? -

I don't mind Rahvin using compulsion on everyone around like he's an addict. I think that adds to how crazy and scary compulsion / the forsaken are. I agree the whole being known for a decade is a bit much and is a plot hole.. Like you could say: Rahvin spent a month going around the country setting this up, which fits his character. And / or the relationship was private and not widely known which makes it easier to digest but.. we're not told that and I shouldn't have to make up excuses to fill in the gaps, which is an issue book lovers have had since the get go. In saying that I'm really liking his portrayal and the season so far. This is by far the least of my issue with this season. -

You're right about Bryne, but still.. The Queensland closest advisors even suggesting this, on top of Elaynes reaction does imply she is capable of.. being ruthless. To be clear, I'm not really a fan of this scene. Still don't know how I feel about how it went, though I am thinking it could pay off so I don't mind looking into the nuisance. What I'm saying is my point was that it's not as far fetched as some are saying. -

Yeah the opening was a bit shocking, I only picked up on one of the houses name, "carry-anne" the last one to pledge. If i remember right they were against Elaine, with Aramyla, the house with the "secretary". I'd bet a shiny dollar the other two will also be against Elaine, which shows this lil plot will backfire. Also interesting how smug Elaida is, so this was probably her idea, showing that not only is the Queen but also Elaida is quite ruthless. Something to note, I was curious and reread Rand meeting the Queen.. She was advised and considers locking Rand up and putting him to the question (which is WoT euphemism for torture) and also taking his head. If Rand wasn't so strongly Tar'vareen it most likely would have gone poorly for the lad. Agree it does feel a bit out of place but is it really that big of a stretch? -
I was thinking it could be Elaida resisting the compulsion. Did you notice how the close up of her hand specifically show her bracelet, and than she tries to give a necklace to Tsutama who rejects it as to gaudy and says it suits Elaida..? π€ That's interesting, i was thinking Asmo being merged with Rahvin who likes people listening to him.. prattle π€¨, and calling him a politician I'm doubting it now. Them dying at the same time also had me thinking this but that's a great point on the daggers'gar. I can see them taking out Asmo and Rahvin and the DO stacking the decks and bringing them back in different bodies, Rahvin the mind controlling womaniser being Arrangar. Don't know how well that would work in today's climate though. Side note; where is Mats evil dagger? Why is nobody talking about it?

Just gotta say, all the things they're pull out of books is just lovely isn't it. Scenes and dialogue, though a bit changed here and there is just so fun to see on screen. The bubbles of evil were awesome π Prophecy, Prophecy, prophesies βΊοΈ Mat and Suians scene was great, may have cracked a tear on that one π’ Rand and Lan sword training, Lan calling him a sheep hearer π€ Faile calling herself Mandarb, laughed right along with Perrin (it's pronounced "fail" dammit π€) - on that note I'm liking what "little" we've got of her so far (get it? "Little) Mat vs the princes, how cool was that!? It was built up well and the fight made me happy. (The books were better π€«) The forsaken meeting was incredibly fun! Perring rallying the stubborn two rivers πΊ Oh, and did anyone pick up on Avi and the rabbit that wasn't fast enough? On top of this season already showing greater quality isn't this just wonderful. Excited for the next episode, we going to Rhuidean! A bit apprehensive, it is a high bar after all.. heck, what am I saying, it's all a high bar. -
From what I remember compulsion was used in varying ways. Yeah na, in the books Rahvin is as strong as a male channeller can be. In the cold opening when Lanfear says Sammael is the weakest, it pans to Rahvin and he has this little smile, like he's gloating / amused. Yeah, rewatching episode 2 and was amazed at how brazen he was. Cheeky bugger was channeling in the hall, not just Suian and her keeper but most likely the sitters too. Ando being the most prominent country in the south he'd want to cover his bases. Such a cool way to show how crazy the forsaken are. Totally scary, I felt right there he could take down the tower on his own if he wanted What a cool scene in hindsight π―

You know, some people theorise that Mad Max was a prequel to the WoT... And the rest of you have never seen a huntsman spider the size of a dinner plate hugging your window π€« -
Ok, so again I have lots of thoughts.. overwhelming positive at that. Gunna need a bit to wrap my head around it all, but I do want to say.. How awesome was that cold opening? Forsaken dissention, cool ass gateways, nae'bliss - oh my π€ Confirmation of Ravin and Semirhage! I think i got it backwards with Asmo merging with Ravin, so now we only have one unconfirmed male forsaken. And when Moggy popped out! The whole scene was very entertaining. One of the consistently cool things they've done with this show is the forsaken scenes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think I'd mind if they flipped it and made all about the "chosen" and how they would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those kids.! P.s. loved they finally gave us the title opening, always liked that. Kinda wished they changed it per season to fit the themes though.

So i jumped straight to episode two because I'm to excited, and I have lots of thoughts.. The most negative thought, something that even though I grew up in the 90s I find beyond reason.. Overall though I very much enjoyed this episode, surprisingly more than the 1st. Even the things that bugged me didn't bother me enough to overly complain about. It's like this is the show i wanted 4 years ago, I could cry π’ -
Ohhhh, she is going to be such a good Elaida. Yeah, let's cage the Dragon, what could go wrong π Notably, the other two Reds are Galina and Tsutama. Galina was thrown to the side when the Blacks attacked outside the hall π€
