  1. Prediction. Rand brings a sword to a one power fight, but gets lucky and just about survives. Egwene levels up and saves someone/everyone. Perrin kills a shedload of trollocs, but in a story arc redemption kind of way, no friendly fire this time. Moiraine takes one for the team for the cliffhanger (we find out in season 2 she's ok).  Doomseer has read the spoilers and she was just drinking in her bar the whole time, because why not, the Pattern is basically just trolling the Dark One, again. No wonder he (or she) is angry and evil.

  2. On Mat and the Reds, my first thought was that it was for the show to tell Liandrin where the group had gone to, to explain her getting there (if she does).  But maybe they're also using it to set up a Mat / Teslyn introduction.  Although the way season 1 has gone I don't think Teslyn's characater is important enough to make it into the show.  Probably it's just to show Moiraine's ruthless side.

  3. Thoughts from my 1 am viewing - a decent episode to start wrapping season one up, best of the lot for me. Don't care about the CGI or the shortcuts.  Having the cold open tie in with Doomseer's confirmation to Rand worked ok for me.  Not bothered that some people think Perrin had a thing for Egwene.  Rand and Egwene didn't know, hardly a love triangle.  I always enjoy a silence of the lambs door-knock, so bonus points there.

I might rewatch after work.  I didn't bother with last weeks.

Completely erase ep. 4-6 and follow the actual book plot instead of doing fan-fiction? This is my humble opinion of course.

I liked episode 4, it could have been better but I didn't mind the change.  One of my favourite GoT episodes is Hardhome, but in the books Jon wasn't there and I'm pretty sure we don't get a PoV of what happened.  I'd compare ep 4 to that type of "it happened but we only heard about it in the books".

5 & 6 were weaker, not for the changes that they made, but for how long they spent on them at the expense of other threads we should be following.  Just my opinion.

So these are changes made by the people making the show? I don't recall seeing anything in the books suggesting it could be female simply based upon the fact Saidar was never tainted.

Just accept it as something that they thought was needed to get the show made, that won't change the overall story too much. Until it does. Save the pitchforks until then.

Another shoutout to Everday Negroes. Also Unravelling the Pattern. My amount of spare time varies, but those are the two that I will not miss.

Yes, those are the two that I'm watching. One for a very entertaining view of how anyone new to the story might be seeing the show.  The other for the best analysis of all the details that I might have missed.

I wouldn't leave due to my opinions, but would for two other reasons:

    • I've stopped watching the show so my opinions would become increasingly irrelevant
    • I've decided that I can't enjoy the show so why waste time dwelling on it - either by watching it "because it is all we have" or by discussing it because I like to rant

I'll read about what you all think of episode 6 and go from there...

Episode 6 - confirming that the show is not the book, it's definitly something else. 7/10.

Why would this poll be any more meaningless that IMDB/Rotten Tomatoes/Etc.?  In fact, Dragonmount being much smaller (miniscule in comparison) is much less likely to be spammed by bots/sock puppets.

I made the point that the show is killing it, and so is unlikely to change.  Just wondering what other folks thoughts were.

Didn't mean to pee in your Cheerios.

The good news is, that episode 6 is likely to be just as bad for me as the previous ones have been.  So I'll be off the boards in a few days.  Don't have to worry about me getting you all torqued out of shape.

I don't mind reading the views of people who don't like the show, and see no need for you to leave or stop commenting.  For me the show is still in the "like it" option, at around 7.5/10 overall, but I'm not sure if I'm influenced by watching it from midnight UK time, when I know I have to be up for work at 7am.  I might save tonight's episode for the weekend.

I'm not satisfied yet with the show's explanation (or still lack there of) of how Valda is capturing sisters. There are plausible ways to do it available to Rafe. We should have been shown something.

But WC operating immediately around TV under Valda is in the books themselves.

I posted a Valda theory yesterday half joking, but thinking it through:

(posted as a spoiler but it's only speculation)

    Spoiler

Could they actually be merging Valda's character with the Gholam?

     - Valda knows that Egwene can channel. Gholam can sense the ability to channel from fifty paces.

     - Valda is not worried about the one power.  Gholam are immune to it.

     - Valda's main hobby is killing Aes Sedai.  This is the sole purpose that Gholam were created for.

     - Was there blood coming out of that bird he ate in Ep 2? / is that definitly red wine in the bottle?

     - he says "you'll find me harder to kill than that"

The idea is let down by the fact Valda bleeds when stabbed.

But you never know, it might be one of the things that they're putting in to surprise book readers. Maybe.

  10. Since there is a forum for it, let me introduce myself. I'm old enough to remember reading Tolkien, Feist and various others in the 80s.  Robert Jordan, Glen Cook, GRRM and many others after that.  I like epic fantasy, intelligent sci fi, but not limited to that.

I've seen so many book adaptions I've been disapointed with I think I have become immune, whether it be Stephen King, Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum or John Grisham.  I really did like The Shawshank Redeption though.  It will take a lot for me to stop watching WoT even if it does turn out to be disapointing. I'm hoping it will not.  I don't feel my opinions on it are useful.  It's sort of in the ball park of "nostalgia meets my favourite sports team", or something.

I'm old, tired and sometimes like a beer on a Friday or Saturday night. I'll try not to post anything too stupid because of that though.

Yes, but my point is that isn't known in book 1, it's only revealed later on. So the scene in the show is loyal to the books in that sense. The readers and viewers are not aware that Logain is reacting to Rand.

Yes, you're right. I replied to your post, but it was more a general reply to the Logain laughing topic. I should have made that clear.

Nope, just read through the 1st book, there's 0 mention of Logain seeing Rand, and it's all but stated that he's laughing at the crowd who are clearly scared of him but yell at him as soon as he looks elsewhere.

    book 6 spoiler

    Spoiler

“You know, I saw a man once who will cause more trouble than I ever did. Maybe it was the Dragon Reborn; I don’t know. It was when they took me through Caemlyn after I was captured. He was far away, but I saw a . . . a glow, and I knew he’d shake the world. Caged as I was, I couldn’t help laughing.”

Side Question neither good/or bad just curious: is Jain Farstrider a woman now? Or did Rand just imply that Egwene would pretend to be him?

Yes, Jain Farstrider is a woman now, but Birgitte is actually Ihvon, so it all balances out ok.
