    Could we see linking?

Is this to my statement or someone else’s? Helpful to quote the comment.

when back and reread the prior comments and realized this might be referencing linking in relation to channelers. Still not sure though.

Yeah.  If Ishy shows up in the last episode there are gonna be a lot of people saying "who is this guy again?"

Maybe they can pull it off similar to "The One Who Remains" from Loki. That turned out way better than I was expecting. But, you're right, typically, these last second villains are a bit of a let down. I'm intrigued to see what they do at the Eye.

Having him be this accepting basically nullifies his entire motivations for what he does for the next two books.

I disagree that Rand's motivation's for the next two books are nullified. Firstly, his main goal is to help Mat in TGH (yes, he considers running away to "safe" people from his potential madness but that can still be a thing) - I don't see the push/pull of being the Dragon Reborn as too much of a motivation. Considering it seems likely (and many have theorized) that they'll change Falme to Tear and have Rand grab Callandor at the end of season two he really doesn't lose out on motivations for Book 3 either.

Those are just my thoughts. Just like with Perrin and the Shaido, I'm all for speeding up parts of the books that are stunted/show no character growth or development. Even if you're correct in the motivations, it would be boring to see Rand "run" from his destiny for two seasons of the show. For those who were complaining about the DR mystery being dragged out, I'd think this "change" would be appreciated.

Those are just my thoughts. So, whatever, I guess ?

Blood snow - was pretty sick, and the veil was up but took it off to breathe better during contractions/tired from battle so it didn’t bother me. I loved it for Tigraine that was awesome.

Machin Shin - Interesting adaptation, wasn’t upset, kinda was hoping for like an insane chorus of footballer fans singing the song in the distance, with a sense of dread as it got closer but this was good, I liked it too. It does feel like they are making some characters overpowered at this point needs more balance. Glad Loial got a few history lines in there that was a nice touch.

Mat- Nice recovery all things considered, pretty smooth dialogue explaining where he went and I accept it. (Still not happy on his backstory and they have a major recovery to make up ground for). Also, Mat doesn’t learn Rand is the Dragon until book two and just got knocked out?or away? At the Eye if I’m not mistaken so this is fine. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Loial- bless your heart Brother Book. I love you on screen, so stop taking his development and giving it away. Man, does he shine when given screen time. Give me more Loial.

Padan Fain- I really like how they did this. Great job. He was always lurking and still is.

Perrin- sigh…Kills his wife and is into Egwene and they have to make Rand and him fight over her?…the character assassination to Perrin is quite unforgivable to me at this point. He was one of my favorite characters and I cringe whenever I see him on screen. It’s heartbreaking to me. I’m really trying.

Tam- honestly, loved Tam in this episode. (Still kinda mad he didn’t even get to take out one trolloc himself but Tigraine while giving birth gets to merk a bunch of dudes.) but Tam tenderly helping her give birth was amazing, had they had him kill her and find the baby I would have dipped. So, glad that didn’t happen. Tam is still best dad.

Rand- All he’s done for six episode is whine about Egwene and comfort Mat a bit.
Then we finally get a call back to his dad in the woods, but I’m not sure it was quite enough to satisfy book readers or non-book readers to be honest. I’m curious to see if there will be backlash due to the reveal, just since he was placed on the back burner for so long, I do give them points for having the callback though and a shout out to Elder Haman for predicting that. Nice call.

Two bonuses: “the hinting to the flame and the void.” Watch the torches as he breathes before letting loose his arrows. And “three beautiful women.” Nice.

Nynaeve - Gets another cool moment and good character development. Honestly, she is why I watch the show. Tugged her braid!!! It happened!!! Finally!!!

Lan - Proper title. Heartfelt backstory. Good development between him and Nynaeve. Got a good tracking joke in there. “King without a kingdom.” These two are the best adaptations in my opinion.

Moiraine- she’s great, but don’t give Loial’s development to her. Not excited she opened the ways, took away from him, she’s already slaying it. Did great this episode too for when she was there.

Egwene- Feels like Egwene. Not mad, didn’t get a ton of her own development but nice shared moments. She also does feel like a bit of a tease. Didn’t like the love triangle stuff.

One of my favorite episodes. That could be inflated simply because Rand finally got a fair shake, but it was a long wait  and I think it will make people mad in multiple camps.

    Pretty much my thoughts exactly.

My first thought after this was when Mat asks the 'finn for something to keep the Aes Sedai away from him (I forget how he phrased it in the book).   Having a couple run-ins with the Reds would go a long way towards setting that up.

Yeah, definitely seems like they might lean more into why he distrusts AS (through actual experiences rather than just being like “ewe, the power, gross” which he does in the books.

I was really frustrated by the Witcher's first season on the first watch.  I went back and rewatched it a second time and it improved dramatically for me.   I also had never played the games or read any of the books.

But, Witcher seems to be telling a much smaller story than WOT is trying to do.  It could easily have turned into an old school monster of the week show.

I’ll give it another watch. Probably necessary to refresh for season 2 anyway!

Yeah, I saw a few episodes and thought they were pretty meh. My only point was that most everything I've read about Netflix seems to suggest that they give their creative teams a lot of creative control.

Rafe's comments about Amazon (he talks about making the show like laying over a body while arrows rain down on his back) contribute to plenty of other stuff I've heard about the very corporatized, tightly controlled "creative" process over at Amazon Studios.

Regardless of what you think of the show, I think we can all agree that it would have been better if made in an environment where there wasn't quite as much executive meddling for Rafe to navigate.

Hadn’t read anything about Amazon‘s iron grip. If that’s true then, yeah, totally agree he should have gotten more creative license. Massive interference can be pretty troubling. We all know how Star Wars has turned out.

Read this in a review of The Witcher Season 2 today and it's really making me with WoT had been adapted by literally anyone but the suits at Amazon.

I've never read/played The Witcher but, IMHO, the first season was absolute garbage, from a television perspective. I'm hoping for a serious uptick in quality for season 2 (which reviews seem to suggest) because there were parts of season 1 of The Witcher that showed small bit of potential but let's not pretend like it was amazing television.

It seems weird to make a filtered pool of pure saidin just as a barrier, especially when we know there are wards around Callandor that serve a similar purpose. Why would male and female Aes Sedai sacrifice themselves for this? The explanation seems to me to be that they wanted the Dragon to be able to learn to channel without working with the taint and going mad. They did not anticipate the Dragon and the Forsaken using it all up in minutes in a high stakes battle.

One of the things that bugs me during my rereads (I try to forget it during the rest of the series) is the lack of actual importance, or clarification, the Eye has in the overall series. Yes, it hides the Dragon Banner/Horn but was left incredibly vague by RJ

The whole ending sequence, to be fair, is completely existential and doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I don't believe there's ever been a confirmed answer from RJ or his estate about the real purpose behind the Eye of the World.

  10. Love how the Black Wind seems to be speaking to Nynaeve in her OWN voice. I hope we get to hear this from multiple character perspectives (and it's in each of their voices).

Min looks great and love @Skipp suggestion that what we're seeing with Perrin might be a viewing. That is a cool way to incorporate her viewings rather than things simply floating around people's heads. Might more visually dynamic.

  11. Here’s a thought about why Matt was left behind. Putting it in spoilers…

    Spoiler

Does anyone else think they are going to play up the rivalry between Mat and Fain? That way, at the end, it’s much more climatic than the books.

Currently, Mat’s the only person we’ve seen interact with Fain (unlike the books).

I could also see Matt sisters being killed by Fain (along with/instead of Perrin’s family?) prior to the Battle of the Two Rivers)

  12. Definitely need to rewatch but have some initial thoughts…

-Logan is so awesome. Heal him already!

    -Fish guts!

    -On your knees!!!!

    - Really loved how the evil of SL acted in reverse of the taint on Saidin. Some great foreshadowing.

-Seems like channeling sickness isn’t a thing or, at least, won’t be a focus. Also, channeling seems to be more accessible then in the books (or was that just to show how much of a BOSS Siuan is.

    -Siuan’s a dreamer now????

-Would really like an actual Ta’veren conversation.

-Mat peaced out? The dagger still calling to him? So many questions.

I have kind of fallen into my old pattern of re-reading from when the books were not completed with the show.   I schedule time to rewatch the preceding episodes so that I end the last episode just before the next one drops. ?

Periodically, if something from an episode comes up in conversation and I want to look at something specific I might open it open in a browser and jump to the scene.

I did this with the rumored "whistling" in SL. Missed it on my first viewing.

  14. Pretty sure I've watched them all 3X at this point (except Ep5 - that's only 2X).

Have to say, like some others have noted, I find the second watch a much better "viewing" of the episode. I'm able to chill and not be such a spazz.

I can also reflect on the merits of the episode a bit more. First viewing is WoT fan perspective and second viewing is film/tv critique.

these castings seem to show that season 1 is mostly book 1.  it seems like season season 2 will he mostly book 2 at this point.  but what do I know?

    I think there’s a good chance season 2 is a mash-up of books 2 and 3.

    Spoiler

I think, as many have speculated, that Falme will be replaced by Tear.

No sure how I feel about that merger but will try to withhold judgement until I see how they do/don’t pull off the merger (assuming it happens).
