Fain had powers but not DO type powers,  so if prison was bored into things would change.  As he was insane and wanted everyone dead, it likely if ever freed he would continue to try and kill everyone.  Simply being stuffed in the prison doesn't make you the DO, in theory the DO could of escaped and stuffed Rand in there.

Yes.  Fain did not have tDO's powers; however, his were evolving.  When I wrote my initial response, I kept thinking about the fall of Aridhol and how the citizenry went about looking for a way to out Dark One the Dark One.  Moiraine remarked that the things done in the name of the Light were awful by the citizens of the doomed city.  Eventually Mordeth was trapped in the city with Mashadar.  Mordeth showed great change once Mat & Co. let him free, but I always thought that Mashadar had something to do with Mordeth's twisting, or he it, or it was a mutually beneficial relationship.  Who knows what would have happened if Mordeth's power was allowed to grow, change, or evolve.

I am particularly minded of the frequent repeats throughout the books that tDO is bound outside of The Pattern.  Since we do not know too much of what constitutes outside of The Pattern we did see that the Dark One had some abilities, including shaping reality.  While Fain may never have those possibilities, this thread has had me thinking that perhaps Fain was to be the one sealed in the Bore once Rand killed the Dark One.  If he did, and was forced to eject Fain from The Pattern, would Fain change?  Could he?  I'd imagine he could, particularly since his soul seemed to be melded to Mordeth's.  Furthering the suppositions on the evidence here, I think perhaps Fain would take the place of tDO within the Bore, and Rand et al. try to explain to everyone/simplify things to that tDO is locked up once more.

This may be a particular function of The Pattern, for whatever reasons it may have.  There may always need to be a Dark One trapped within the Bore, or at least, there may always need to be something trapped within the Bore for the Wheel to function.  It weaves as it wills.  As Rand chose not to kill tDO or Moridin and that someone (possibly the Creator) applauded him for the decision, perhaps the Wheel allowed Fain's thread to be removed from the current weaving as he was not needed.  Perhaps he was just, in the end, the Pattern's ace in the hole.

The biggest issue with that is Fain being what he is, who could say the impact that would have on the pattern when the DO prison gets bored into again.  He couldn't simply be the DO, there would be no true power for instance.  So there would be no TP for people to sense and eventually bore in the prison.  Being insane and wanting to destroy good and evil, what would happen if his prison was bored into?  Just being stuffed into the prison wouldn't make him the DO.

But Fain did have powers.  They kept evolving as the stories progressed.  From the darkening of people's natures, to illusions in Far Madding (A place where the Power can't be used) and then of course, everything that happened on his way to Thakan'dar.  He had powers, and he was evolving.

Honestly, I think I prefer this over the Philosophy 090 class we got in AMoL.

  3. By the time they finish writing Season 1 and 2, (Even just wrangling one season out is gonna be difficult) cast the principle parts, scout the right locations and get everything rolling, Kiernan will be a few years older.  If they do enough makeup, and play their cards right, she'll be fine.

Even though she's supposed to be several years older than TTR men, it's rarely mentioned after book 6 and if you listen to the audiobooks, rarely is her voice correctly shown.

I appreciate your comments.  I would like to remind you that the series will probably not strictly follow the series.  I see no reason that Min's stated age in the series means much of anything in the long run.  It is not a major plot point like Rand's height, which you stated and I agree with.  They will need someone tall for his character.

  4. I have thought of this saying in two ways:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watermill

The Wheel is the power for the threads of The Pattern as a watermill's wheel does the same for those early factories.  Please remember, this is only their interpretation of the cosmic forces of the planet.

    In a another metaphysical way;

As the Wheel weaves the threads of energy beneath it, the Pattern swirls in response much as water whirls about in a river.  The threads of the Pattern bind themselves in ways that follow the natural principles of reality.

In the intro to tGS, it's revealed that Masema had been manipulated by a forsaken. When did this start?

And to a lesser extent, does anyone disagree with me that it was Lanfear/Cyndane?

I will have to reread the intro of tGS, as I didn't get that Masema was being manipulated by a Forsaken.  I really thought that was a mad delusion of Masema's.  Do we have other evidence that Masema was being manipulated by the Forsaken in another book?

I'm still annoyed years later about the lack of explantation here, and will not concede to the explanation that this has nothing to do with the Sharan prophecy if someone who can Channel without weaves.

The official answer that Demandred using the TP was what it is about does not make any sense to me, and I maintain he purposely faked fulfilling the prophecy to get a huge army, and was not who the prophecy was meant for. Why would the Sharan's be the only people with no prophecies of Rand?

Anyway to get a bit more back on topic, I agree that it is essentially Rand having become something more and no longer needing to weave, but have an unprecedented control of the Power.

I completely agree.  There are multiple instances in the book where they talk about perception in the One Power as a reason for or against abilities.  For example: When Toviene is forcibly bonded she mentions that men believe they must see for their weaves to continue to work, and so their weaves fail without it.

The whole weaving of Fire, Earth, Air and Water is actually holding channelers back; I truly believe if they saw the OP as one flow instead of many they might be able to do more.

They could still keep them as 3 lovers, just not 3 ongoing simultaneous lovers. Relationships end amicably and they remain friends/allies.

That's a really good idea, Dex.  I'm not all that invested in most of Rand's relationships for many reasons that are not necessary to get into here, so I'd have no complaints about it, though some shi

i think galad could be cut out of the series.  he barely played a role in anything significant.  they might want to get a good looking face, but i felt his duel with demandred kind of ruined the ending a bit.  there was no need for 3 sword fights.  also the children of the light didnt play a huge role in the overall story and probably wouldnt be missed if cut.

There was a great deal of tedium in the stories about Whitecloaks, Amador, and Morgase.  I wonder if they can tell a cohesive story without the Whitecloaks as they're part of Perrin's journey to becoming a Wolfbrother.

thats a fair enough point, but I still think that I would put rand over mat, even if I can't think of any of moments where they both fought they same thing and in the same quantity.

I can definitely understand that. :)  I'm not exactly certain which Two Rivers lad I lean towards just yet, but I am glad to hear your opinions.  Rand is indeed very skilled.

Also, I think that Rand is better than Mat.

At the very least, in book 5, where I happen to be in my re-read, he is.

Rand is able to disable several Darkhounds with his sword, while Mat simply tries to hide in his room.

I have to counter this point with another: Rand was warned (by saidin or however channelers and their Warders sense the Shadowspawn) and left his room to pick his ground to fight those Darkhounds.  Mat was in bed with Melindhra and only happened to get up to go get a drink of water.  It was mentioned that he was also naked or in his smallclothes when this occured.  I imagine that he indeed would have spent the time to hold the door instead of doing anything else.  He was in a vulnerable moment, unarmed and underdressed, when a huge bunch of dogs try to come into his room.

Further, at that time, Mat was still getting used to his memories and more importantly his place in the world as a great mover and shaker.  It is not until the next book that Mat even starts to begin to feel responsible for his destiny and the lives of others.

Well, the fun part is going to be, that many of the Cultures Jordan has, he swapped the expected ethnicity around.
Aiel = Red headed Irish, but culturally, are more desert nomad.

    Shienar = Japanese Vikings?

Didn't the big white book of exposition explain ethnicities of people? I recall somewhere in there they mention the Seanchan a mixture of Texas and Imperial China? "Y'all bow to the Empress,  may she live forever, y'hear?" Seems to be a quote in the back of my mind.

  12. Lucy Lawless has played a redhead before, maybe she could be Morgase?  It'd be a lovely refreshing role for her, a little more passive than some she has played in the past.

Or, instead of Lucy Lawless there (She could be a Wise One, like Amys instead!) Polly Walker could be Morgase.  Or a Wise One.  Either would work, because both are great actresses.

  13. I agree Sam Elliot would be great for the role of Thom.  He's whip-thin and has the facial hair.  If Elliot cannot be contracted, as busy as this man must be, I feel that Ian McShane's acting chops would make an excellent Thom too, even if he doesn't look the part.  If gleemen were a thing in our world, I could easily imagine him becoming one of the famous.  I know he's busy right now with a lot of things including acting as Mr. Wednesday in the TV series American Gods, but Lord knows (No pun intended) how troubled that is.  Maybe he could squeeze in the time.

Honestly, I could see McShane filling other roles; Lews Therin, Demandred, Mazrim Taim come to mind for him for me.

Is it silly of me to suggest Henry Cavill for Perrin?  He has a very hairy chest and looks the part to me, if he lets his hair grow.  I know he's kind of old for the part, but...it'd be really nice to see him play the part.

For Graendal...Christina Hendricks.  She's got great acting abilities, and honestly to me, she's just so attractive.  Sex incarnate.

I'd love to see Clancy Brown in this series too.  He was an amazing Brother Justin in Carnivalè and amongst many other roles, he has continued the evil vibe on Venture Brothers.  Perhaps he could be The Dark One, and do the V/O work for it?  Or maybe Demandred, or Mazrim Taim?  Yes, I know I'm double-dipping here, but I think that he'd rock any of those.

I'm at a loss for now, but I'm sure I'll come back with more ideas.

  14. If the TV series expands the Book 5 traveling circus, Book 9 - 11's Shaido, 8 - 11's Elayne and Andor, or the really weird Tallanvor/Morgase story-line (So much of it has always sounded...weird to my ears) I might just plunge my remote into my TV.  Those stories were long enough.

I would like to see TAR done in the show in a really unique way.  For some reason, TAR is in the style of claymation in my head whenever I read it.  I guess it's how I imagined the malleability of that realm.

I never thought that the books were women centered as were claimed in a rough article I posted in this forum; if they got as much time as Mat and Perrin as mentioned above I don't think that makes it women centered.  Perhaps just equal, you know?

Anyway, I wonder how they'll show embracing/seizing the Source and the TP.  I always imagined the Source making the pupils of the channeler go white-gold, and the TP to go red-black.  Did anyone else have little divergences while reading like I did?

I am interested in the idea of cutting down the number of women who were in love with Rand; if we cut the love from Elayne and/or Aviendha, do you think they'd have both of them stay?  Would...could you think they'd make either his half-sister or some junk?

I haven’t reread it since the last book was released. Been waiting for it to be fresh.

So...you're telling me your personal Wheel hasn't turned enough for history to fade to legend, legend to myth, and the myths themselves forgotten when the Wheel turns to it once more?
