  1. I was giving the show a fair shot until the last episode, which may be one of the worst episodes of TV I've ever seen. I will watch the first couple episodes of S2 to see if they can fix the mess they made, but if they don't I'm out and I suspect season 3, while having been greenlit, will be in question. Reacher is such a better show, LOTR show has enough hype that it will make people forget about WoT, they need a strong S2 to justify more seasons IMO.

  2. There are a lot of things about the show that I just don't enjoy but I've learned that many of these can be chalked up to outside factors and COVID restrictions (not being able to have enough trolloc actors for the battle scenes at the end),  Barney leaving in the middle of an episode (forcing one of the most counterintuitive "I walk away" moments in any series I've seen), asking for 2 extra episodes and being denied. My main concern is what I would term poor writing decisions:

    Spoiler

sending the Reds to deal with Mat feels lazy and not at all what the character would do; resurrection is now a thing; Moiraine just lets Mat walk away after saying she would rather kill them all rather than let the Dark One take one of the Emonds Fielders; Perrin's whole arc is dull and doesn't progress him as a character.

These are choices that were consciously made that for me really cast into doubt whether I'm going to enjoy future seasons. The biggest issue for me was pacing, it was just off - going slow when things could be skipped and rushing through bigger plot points. I give it a 4.5/10 and hope things get better.

  3. Best case it get's picked up by netflix, or showtime. This series is pure fantasy and beyond GoT the cool new thing the past few years is a mix of dystopian sci-fi (Hunger Games, Maze Runner, the 100, etc.). If it winds up on a network they're going to gut the series in order to make it more palatable for the masses; I can't see them going this way. The only shows that make it on network tv are bland shows like NCIS and Big Bang Theory. I don't want another Legend of the Seeker debacle, that show strayed so far from the source material that it was unrecognizable. Worst case this turns into something with poor production value like all the SyFy shows currently on the air. I really hope they get it right.

  4. BTW Suttree, don't always be so sure you're the only one with google

      INTERVIEW: 2013
    Twitter 2013 (WoT) (Verbatim)
    KEITH PISHNERY (13 JANUARY 2013)
Did RJ say that Nakomi should be included? You said she was "deep in RJ's notes" but wondering if it was up in the air?
    BRANDON SANDERSON (13 JANUARY 2013)
I said something deep in the notes made me include her. I have not said if she herself was in the notes or not.

You can't assert RJ didn't write her because it's ambiguous.

    My next theory-

"Earth-Mother, aka Nookomis - "Algonquin legend says that "beneath the clouds lives the Earth-Mother from whom is derived the Water of Life, who at her bosom feeds plants, animals and men" She is known as Nokomis, the Grandmother." aka mother nature.

  5.

He promised RJ not to reveal who Nakomi is, but I believe it is listed in RJ's notes, which were donated to a school, but I can't remember which one.

    1. Brandon and RJ never met and he was picked to finish the series after RJ's death.

    2. The concept for Nakomi was based on something buried "deep in the notes", the character was a Brandon creation.

You're right. I misspoke. RJ left instructions not to reveail Nakomi's true nature and Brandon promised his widow. There are several youtube videos of Sanderson doing readings of AMOL and he explicitly talks about this point.

  6. I always thought she was a "wandering Jenn Aiel" like the myth of the Wandering Jew. That way she would have an interest in helping the Aiel. Sanderson had an interesting reaction when that question was posited to him http://www.tor.com/blogs/2013/01/brandon-sandersons-wheel-of-time-answers-from-torchat. He promised RJ not to reveal who Nakomi is, but I believe it is listed in RJ's notes, which were donated to a school, but I can't remember which one.

  7. Thanks Theodora and Aidanna for the welcome, I will be sure to explore the social groups. Theo, I'm glad to find another constant re-reader. Looking forward to the new mistborn trilogy.

I'm sure the questions will come to me once I start reading group rules.

Shane, a New Spring is a perfect short-read between books 3-4. It really fleshes out a few main characters and informs their actions in the series. I just finished reading it again last week!

  8. Hello all! I'm a fairly new fan. Only started reading epic fantasy a couple of years ago. Read WoT for the first time about a year ago after enjoying the Mistborn trilogy and I'm on my third lap through the series already. I'm incredibly excited to find this community. I've been looking through some threads and the only thing I can say is that it feels like I've stumbled across my people and you've all found "the song." Thanks to the mods and everyone who keeps this place running!
