  1. I'm very confused by the use of the Ajah colors (associated with the Aes Sedai) in what is supposed to be a back country Women's Circle ceremony.  I like the image of Egwene coming out of the pool with all of the colors as a flashback/vision kind of thing, but this scene as it is seems to be mixing the Women's Circle and the White Tower together and it doesn't make sense to me.  On top of duplicating the cliff scene, I can see why it was cut.

  2. I think its just going to be whether or not the show becomes boring for me.

Most of the changes I understand (not that I agree with them all) and like @AdamA said, changes can be fine and forgotten if the show itself is good.  The first season was up and down for me as a TV show... not sure it was exactly 'good.'  Hoping Season 2 is solid across the board and can stand on its own as a show, irrelevant of its source material.  Cause at this point, comparing it to the source only hurts those who try ?

  3. Backing off the, 'extra episodes wouldn't have helped based on x,y,z circumstances' I do think more runtime could've really boosted the show in terms of character development (for Mat, Perrin, Egwene, and especially Rand).

The most common criticism I hear from my non-reader friends is they just didn't really care about most of the characters.  Adding moments for the EF5 to interact, show their humanity and their love for one another (especially early) could've really helped to get viewers invested in the characters themselves.  Instead of the simple mystery of, 'I wonder who the DR is' it could've been extended to 'I hope its this character cause they're my favorite!"

In Rand's case they really needed to do more with him in the first 6 episodes so the viewers actually cared that he's the DR and about to sacrifice himself for his people.  More time with the EF5 could've helped that.

  4. Covid, Harris' departure, and episode count all had their parts to play.  But if we're honest, covid wasn't an issue for ep 1-6 and Harris was still there.  Editing was a continuous roller coaster throughout the season.  Extending ep 1 to have a more cohesive leaving of EF could've been beneficial, but I'm not sure more episodes would've helped all that much based on what we saw in ep1-6 (unless they added more mat/rand/thom on the road, I could take a whole episode there, haha).

In my opinion, Ep 7/8 were busted due to covid and Harris' departure.  They tried to put it together but it was an impossible task, I think.  No Sanderson pre-shoot review?  No ability for large crowds?  Actors schedules, location shoots, who knows what else all messed up due to Covid?  Yes, they could've have overcome these issues and I wish they had.  And maybe Amazon delaying release to give the editors more time would've helped, but I'm not certain even the core of what they had initially intended for ep 7/8 made it to screen.

One could look at the whole of the first season as a pattern.  I think we saw the results of removing one of the major threads (harris) and covid repeatedly bashing into the loom.  More episodes doesn't fix that.

  5. I have seen confirmation that Laila is not a darkfriend.  But, should she be?  I'm curious what y'all think might be the reverberations a retcon like this might have for Perrin's (tv show) story.

Do you think it could be part of a more interesting Perrin story, for Laila to be a darkfriend?  Would it break Perrin's tv story arc, or would it be just as unnecessary as Perrin being married in the first place, haha?

Taim was not Demandred in the end, so changing minds midstream has some precedent, and so I'm wondering how y'all feel about it.

  6. Loved these stories so far, very on tone for the books in my opinion.  Wish something like this had happened when Moiraine explained the story of Manetheren.  Pike's delivery was wonderful but cutting back and forth between people on horseback for literal minutes is just not exciting and an animated backstory in this vein could've worked well for me, personally.

  7. The Dragon Reborn will be Rand.  Check out the posters they put up recently with the 'hidden' weaves.  Dead eye circle on Rand.  The showrunners know what they are doing... simply increasing drama/mystery around who the DR is for viewers who haven't read the books (which is going to be a good majority of people watching I'd posit).  Just watch Josha in a recent interview talk about how he wants Rand to be a sheepherder first and not so much a hero and you can see how hard they're trying to make a very big impactful and interesting reveal for the audience by obscuring Rand's importance. I think it'll be important for us book readers to honor that and not spoil it for our non-book friends if we can.

I think of Camelyn not being in S1 less as a cut and more of a move.  Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but its in S2 now, right?  That being said, moving entire large sequences like this around has ripple effects and can be downright dangerous for all the reasons others have already mentioned in other threads.  Good luck to all of them making it work.

Perrin seems like a strong candidate for BS's comment so far.

I do wonder if some of the character merging they're going to do has touched some characters BS wouldn't be onboard with, but that's pure speculation on my part.

  8. Yeah, that's the one.  I should've had it in the initial post, my bad.

The line of "There are a few I offered suggestions on, and we'll see" seemed curiously noteworthy.  As if he wanted to make sure he distanced himself a bit from some things (which are currently unknowns), thus this whole topic ?

@MasterAblar I wouldn't be surprised if Mat, Rand, Perrin, and Egwene were all around the same age in the show.  Nyneave 'should' be a tad older to play her dynamic with Egwene properly but we'll see.  Probably one of those things BS thought fans would take well to.

  9. Pulling in more candidates to possibly be the DR is a completely obvious and smart move by Rafe et all to increase drama for the viewers who haven't read the books.  There's no need to mock it.  The DR will still be Rand (the hidden weaves in the posters confirm that for me).  Focusing so much conversation on it here really takes away from more interesting topics.

Egwene being Ta'veren makes a whole lot of sense based on what she accomplishes over the series.  Coming back after a long while I actually couldn't remember if she was or not, and while not book cannon it would play in the show just fine and help deal with any Mary Sue accusations.  I feel like there's probably bigger fish that BS would be concerned about...

Such as Perrin being married already?!  I definitely missed this one.  Very interesting.  Does this mean Faile will be sort of a rebound, introduced after?  Or I wonder if they do that very annoying love triangle thing with a completely new character, sigh...  I can definitely see BS being unhappy with Perrin's character being messed with like this.

  10. Do we have any leads on what the changes were (from print to screen) that Brandon Sanderson 'offered suggestions on'?  Someone recently mentioned the Whitecloak designs on another thread...  I feel like that may be small enough bones to ignore for BS, but it got me curious as to if there had been any sleuthing or generally accepted ideas going on out there.  And please forgive me if this has already been asked/discussed ad nauseum, I've been away from the forums for a long long while (a decade already, really?).
