  1. proof, just visit it once.

though it was a great place to grow up in a lot of ways, and in a lot of ways i felt more comfortable among great masses of humanity that know how to give you mental space, than i do among just one or two people who make aggressive eye conact and stand too close... i always felt like it was a death trap. just lucked out on not being there when anything really bad happened.

I wish I'd have lived in the city at least for a bit in my early adult years.

  2. but what's up with yonkers?

I'm watching Madagascar and the ol Jewish woman said something about Yonkers.

ah, ok, yes, it used to be very jewish so probably still old people there who couldn't get out.

it's just south of new rochelle and scarsdale (where the petries lived, in the dick van dyke show, i can say that, right?), which are now the big jewish neighborhoods north of the city.

I've only been to NY once. Rush hour was very interesting with nearly every car being funneled towards the tunnels/bridge.

i lived on staten island one summer and the commute to work in manhattan at rush hour, which was any time that wasn't 2 - 4 AM, took 2-1/2 hours each way.

with no traffic it was 30 minutes.

traffic is hell. and there's no way that island can ever be evacuated, and that is something i never stopped thinking about when i lived there.

i beg my family to get farther away from there but they don;t share my paranoia.

Yeah the light turned red at an intersection and I stopped at the line and my uncle screamed at me to keep going, that we'd be lynched for doing that. I'm surprised there are cars that drive in that traffic that don't have dents in them. It was an experience I'll never forget.

  4. i alwys thought it was like a series of questions and answers people were supposed to memorize, but i never looked it up and that was a way lot of stuff to read on the fly.

whole mess of rules pretty much sums up my religious education.

like way too many but people manange tolive by them and add more around them to make sure they don;t accidentally break one by skirting too close.

intrestingly enough, not saying naughty words is not one of the rules.

nor are an awful lot of things i can't say here.

people being what we are, there are some things god didn't ask of us.

Yeah. One of the things that most Catholics don't realize is the the Church doesn't teach that homosexuality is wrong. The catechism actually teaches us to embrace them and that every sign of unjust discrimination towards them is to be avoided. Now it also says that homosexual acts are wrong and that they should practice chastity.

But that is very different from what many Catholics thinks the Church teaches. It is also very different from what all the fundamental religions teach.

  5. The Rabbi looked up and said: "Looking back on it, ....circumcision may not have been the best way to start."

    ROFLMAO

    silly jew.

That catechism is a royal pain btw.

it's amazing that ritual caught on the way it did...

do they still make you learn the catechism? i only really read about it in little house, and they didn't explain it well.

but considering the ridiculous amount of rote memorization we had in jewish school, it's had to imagine something more painful.

I never knew it existed as a child and if I should have I don't remember. It's kinda a good tool though. Not so much to use against other beliefs but against catholics who don't have a clue.
