  1. I remember you mentioning the horse at the Ogier (I think it was anyway lol). Mine was a bay Anglo Arab called Kilberry Shane, he was an ex-Irish racehorse and I adored him to bits. :D Genealogy is fascinating, I get lost for hours once I start researching and it's uncovered some truly intriguing stories about the family over the years. Though the brick walls can be kinda frustrating lol.

  2. It couldn't be possible to be any more dust logged than she was already but Kiyissalle found herself looking forward to the reprieve that arrival at the White Tower would bring. She was tired, she was dirty and all the stour was making her throat worse than normal. She'd had to cough several times to clear it enough just to reply to the Brown Sister's chit chat.

Longing for some cool clear water, Kiyi patted at the silk skirts of her dress and watched as clouds of dust rose from the ruined material. She wondered idly if her parents would have been quite so keen to let her leave if they'd known that she would be sleeping rough more often than not. The Brown had stated that it was best to avoid unnecessary attention and then had not vouchsafed another word on the topic. Not that Kiyi objected to sleeping under the stars. The weather had held fair and the novelty had not yet worn off. Still, a bath would be about the best thing in the world for her aching muscles. Even as an accomplished horsewoman, she had never been accustomed to riding from sun up to sun down and the exercise was taking its toll.

Finally though, the small group arrived in Tar Valon, quickly crossing the bridge over the Esendrelle Erinin and making their way past the ancient Ogier Grove. The Sister pointed out places of note as they picked a route through the bustling crowds on the city streets. Kiyi's eyes were everywhere taking in as much as she could, for though she'd visited Cairhien with her parents on several occasions, this was Tar Valon and an altogether different kettle of fish. As with any visitor to the island, her gaze was drawn again and again to the tall, elegant Tower dominating the landscape. It was so big and so beautiful... and it was to be her home. She still hadn't wrapped her mind around that fact by the time they reached the Tower Grounds and she could feel the impact of the place up close and personal. The whole structure oozed authority and power as did the ageless faces of the Sisters they passed more frequently now.

Inwardly, the self composed girl realised at last the enormity of what was about to happen to her and began to quake. She was going to give up all that she knew for the chance to become Aes Sedai and to commit her life to this White Tower. Should she change her mind? Did she want to? Kiyi shook her head as though to rid herself of a buzzing insect, brushing the thoughts aside and dismounting before following the Brown up the main steps.

Well, this is it. There'll be no going back. Kiyi compressed her lips and threw her shoulders back with a determined air as she passed under the portal and into the Tower.

  3. Character Name: Alaya Maniea

    DM Handle: Kara J

    Email address: j_woollands@yahoo.co.uk

    Age: 19

    Gender: female

    Place of Birth/Raising: Buryhill, Andor

Physical Description: 5' 4, 9 stone, Brown wavy shoulder length hair (with streaks of blonde in the Summer), freckles, blue/grey eyes.

    Character History:

Alaya was born to a family of tailors in the village of Buryhill in Andor. She was the youngest by far. Her elder sister, Hana, was 10 and her brother, Berdt, was approaching his 14th naming day when she was brought into the world. By the time Alaya was old enough to play, Hana and Berdt already had their own lives to lead and weren't interested in having a young child tagging around after them. When Alaya was 8 years old, Berdt was married and her sister was courting, so when she wasn't helping her mother with her sewing, Alaya spent her time alone, either wandering the neighbouring farms or sitting in her favourite tree, no matter the weather.

Alaya grew up a shy and quiet child, always daydreaming about far off places that she'd read about in the only book she possessed. As she grew older though, her Mother and Father required her help all the more. Alaya did as she was told, but longed to be out in the fresh air and wide spaces that she could see from her window. Truth be told, she probably spent more time staring out the window than she did sewing. As her 19th birthday approached, however, she starting to experience strange things.

She was as startled as her mother when she located the needle her mother had dropped by the sound it made as it landed on the stone flagging but they shrugged that off and thought no more about it. As the months wore on though, she and her mother and father noticed other things. She found that she could still see to sew, long after the sun had set and her father and mother had been forced to pack away for the evening.

Other things crept to her attention. She could smell the distant farmlands and tell where the sheep and cows were pastured long before she saw them. She'd find herself fancying a good meat dinner too, when previously she only liked small amounts of meat. Her father and mother were growing concerned, especially when they noticed exactly how acute her vision and hearing were becoming. They withdrew and hardly spoke to her, as if ignoring it and her, would make their fears disappear.

Finally, one night shortly after her 19th birthday, she awoke abruptly in the night, babbling about dreams of a moonlit hunt. She couldn't believe how real it had felt. The following morning Alaya's mother brought breakfast up to her room. Alaya sat up to tell her mother about the dream she'd had but didn't get a chance to say a word as her mother suddenly screamed in shock, dropped the tray and dashed back out of the room screaming for the Wisdom to come quickly. Startled, Alaya jumped out of bed and looked into the small mirror she owned, and saw that where her eyes were once a pale blue/grey they were now almost pure yellow.

When the Wisdom arrived with her trembling and concerned parents in tow, Alaya was already gone.

  4. Hmm, let's see... better just hit the main points or I'll be here forever. 8)

My real name is Louise (I prefer Lou though), I'm 35 and Scottish (in case anyone missed that  :P, important point as I'm very proud of my heritage). Have 3 step kids and I've been engaged for about 2 years following a horrible marriage and even more horrible divorce lol. My degree is an MA in English (Language and Literature) for no other reason than it meant I could read books for 4 years. ;D

Been reading the WoT books since about 1990/91. Picked them up purely by accident and got hooked though I prefer GRRM's "A Song of Ice and Fire" now. Found DM in 2006, also by accident.

Ummm, I adore films especially oldies like Casablanca, Sunset Boulevard and North by North West though modern ones that have a good plotline like Shawshank Redemption are worth watching too.

Music wise I like rock and folk. Hobbies, apart from writing and reading are being online, which I do far too much since I have no life,  ;D genealogy, card making, cross stitch, horse riding. Adore animals and have always had pets... everything from cats and dogs to guinea pigs and a horse. My favourite possessions are my books and my pc. I smoke like a chimney but it's my only really bad habit since I don't drink often these days.

Personality wise I've always been a bit of a loner, I don't have much time for the vast majority of people but somehow I've managed to make a ton of friends online, for whom I act as general agony aunt lol. I tend to mother everyone, have a horrible temper which I luckily don't lose often and a very dry/sarcastic sense of humour. I'm pretty straightforward and tend to speak my mind which gets me into trouble every so often.  :P Think that's about it. :)
