Question: Has season 1 performed as you expected? Any thoughts on viewers’ feedback?

Answer: When we started out, we knew the show had to appeal to a huge audience in order to justify its existence. So we always imagined that we’d likely lose absolute hardcore book fans who’ve read the series multiple times because the show would be too different from the books. And conversely, that we’d lose people who’ve never watched a fantasy show before because it’s too much like the books (which are very high fantasy). The target was always more people who read some or all of Wheel years ago or are fantasy/genre fans but not familiar with Wheel. Which is a huge breadth of people. The shocking thing to me has been how many really really Sarah Nakamura-level hardcore book fans have loved the show despite the departures and how many people who’ve never watched a fantasy show before in their lives are somehow finding their way to this one and loving it too!  -Rafe

Question: Rafe – any plans to continue or even expand on the animated origin stories? They r AMAZING

Answer: We are actually talking with Amazon now about a way to make these even bigger and better in S2. Rammy Park, Mike Weber and the Amazon X-Ray team have been incredible in putting them together and I want MORE.  -Rafe

Question: When will we see Logain again?

Answer: Sooner than you expect but later than you wish.  -Rafe

image.png

Question: How many seasons ahead are you thinking when making decisions?

Answer: All of them.  Have to be.  There’s lots of stuff that we’ve set up in Season One that are changes from the books that we needed to make for later payoffs.  -Rafe

Question: What drew you to playing Logain? Are you excited for his later character development?

Answer: Logain is an amazing character. He is full of possibilities in terms of acting. It’s a gift for an actor to get the chance to perform a character like Logain and follow his development.  lvaro

You can read the entire Q&A here.  As a Logain fangirl, I'm very excited that he'll be back sooner than expected!

I understand they had to cut sequences to make it work in a shortened tv season but it felt like they deviated from the books unnecessarily over and over and the end result is a lesser story. Pretty disappointed with the way it turned out.

Hello Rafe, I have a question. Why were there so many changes done to the story? I and thousands of fans have been waiting for 30 years for this story to be shown on film and this is what we get? This story is fantastic the way Jordan wrote it. You all have taken it and rewrote it, it's not even the same story. The excuse that it has to be adapted doesn't hold. Here is one example of what I'm talking about, Perrin's eyes are not yellow and he isn't talking to the wolves. You all had him meet the tuatha'an without Elyas Machera, who is his wolf brother mentor, being there. Why would you do that? He isn't the Hulk! His eyes don't change when he's angry or him being beaten by whitecloaks. I don't know if you read the forums or if you care but you have made THOUSANDS of people very upset. I don't know if I want to see a 2nd season if this is what you all have done to the Wheel of Time.

This is the work a opportunistic careerist, not an artist who is a fan of a masterpiece. You took a man's life work and completely rewrote it, ignoring some aspects and changing most others to serve your agenda. Rafe smartly went full virtue signalling and made the conversation around the show's release political. Now people would say they love it no matter how god-awful it is, because that's the meta opinion of the ideological tribe with which they personally identify.

Writing this description as it appears to me sounds like a real life forsaken plot to corrupt a magical and peaceful place/group of people. R.I.P WoT fandom.

I just finished the 8th episode. The only things I recognized were the names of the characters. The story is being re-written.

Has anyone watched the Mandalorian? New story set in the Star Wars universe. All the Mandalorian needs is characters named Luke and Han Solo to be like the WoT.

I’m really disappointed.

I’ve read the Wheel of Time series three or four times. I had my boys read it. They begged their grandmother to read it and she did. I have loved the series from the beginning.

I hate what this writer and producer have done to this story. Perrin had no wife before Fayle. Egwene and Rand were over before they started. Padan Fain was never near the Horn of Valere.   Mat is a scoundrel, but turning to the dark side? Never! Seanchan in the first season? Garbage! Loial dead? Moraine gentled? This is no longer WoT, but a gross butchering of Robert Jordan’s work.

This show has added nothing of value and they’ve rewritten significant important parts of the story. I’m very close to refusing to watch the first episode of the second season. To say I’m enraged may be an understatement.

Padan fain run away with the horn of valere, and he kept the horn for a long time. he presented it to the seanchan, because he didn't knew how to open the chest.

Seanchan weren't mentioned directly in the first book, but there was mention of ships disappearing in the west, so they definitely were there.

Loial is not dead, as per author's word in interview.

there's plenty of things to complain about, but not those.

I feel the same. I’m likely to drop the show. It just made me so sad.

I notice my original comment has been removed.

I'd ask Rafe why he is piggybacking whatever this show is on the name of The Wheel of Time as it's so far off the source material that it renders it unrecognizable.

Getting the horn (and the dagger) back from Fain is literally what The Great Hunt is about...

The Seanchan isn't really a "part" of the first season. It's just a tease for season two about there being yet another threat.

Loial is hardly dead.

Moiraine is likely just shielded.

As someone already pointed out, there's plenty to complain about, but most of what you've mentioned isn't part of it.

But yeah, this was a really disappointing end to a pretty disappointing first season. Lots of needless changes and a weird obsession with portraying women as strong, capable, and good (to the detriment of their development throughout the story), while motivating the actions of men with things such as "arrogance", "inherent darkness inside", or other negative traits.

In a story with such a wealth of strong and capable women, I really don't see the point.

My original comment was deleted. Not sure why, I didn't use profanity.

The show is terrible and I'm fairly certain RJ is rolling in his grave.

Question for Rafe: Why did you decide to ruin the entire story in favor of cheap thrills and political approval?

The target was always more people who read some or all of Wheel years ago or are fantasy/genre fans but not familiar with Wheel.

So Harriet and Brandon were okay with this and/or Rafe et al ignored them? I’d just like to know what those two think of this production so far.
