Katrina kneed the man in his family jewels and ran from the town; she couldn't believe that she had almost been raped by some man who smelled like too much ale and his own un-washed body with its own mix of sweat and dirt. She gagged as she ran and tried to get her breath back, luckily she hadn't left any of her things at the room she had already paid for for the night. Light, she should have known better than to stop in this town, she had been able to smell it from quite a distance. It smelled strongly of cow manure and human waste which was thrown into the streets like they didn't care about the way their town smelled or looked. Rena made it just to outside the city and she crouched low under the trees. Then began heaving and didn't stop until her stomach was empty and she shook and cried with the force of it. Her first home cooked meal in weeks and she was now looking at it lying on the ground in front of her.

Rena stumbled away from the mess she had made and went to find a stream to wash her mouth out and scrub it with some of the herbal toothpaste she had made during her trip. As her senses had heightened she had become more and more aware of her own body scents, of her own smells, and even her own bad breath. She walked for some distance from the town before she found a stream which looked clear of the dirt from the nearby town of Twin Falls. Slinging her packs off her shoulder, she kneeled down at the stream and scrubbed the taste from her mouth. Bloody ashes that man had tasted like he had never brushed his teeth in his stinking life. She finished scrubbing and washed anywhere that the vile creature had touched her. When she finished she filled her canteen's up with water and then walked away from the stream.

She wanted to put some distance between herself and the city before she stopped for the night, and she was hoping to use the new bow she had picked up in that city. The best she could hope was that the bow was as good as it looked and not like the city she had almost lost her innocence in. Luckily, her father has insisted that all his girls be skilled with the bow, hand to hand, and cross bow, as well as the women's arts. As much as she hated her father right now for his kicking her out of her home, she thanked him for that training, without it she would have been raped today. She made her way from the stream and kept her bow at her side, as she walked she pulled the gathering bag she had made out of rabbits skin out and began collecting the herbs and foods she had learned about in the book her Mother had given her as she left.

She hooked the bag to her belt and walked on, she wore a blue dress, cinched at the waste with a belt, black leggings underneath, and several things which hung from her belt and off her back. At her side she held her bow at the ready and an arrow notched. The afternoon sun was at its high when she came upon a doe on the banks of the waterfall she had been aiming to take a bath in. She let her arrow fly and took the deer down in midleap. After that she spent several days at the waterfall, she dried meat, and collected food, and dried the leather for the coming winter, she didn't know how long she would be in the wilderness and she didn't want to freeze. One of the things she had learned was how to cure meat and also how to tan leather, part of her women's training, and it served her in good stead on this trip. When she finally walked away from that camp, she had a rabbit skin cloak and hat, dried meat of several verities, nuts, dried berries, and apples, a deerskin blanket and new deer leggings. Of course it had taken more than one deer and she had left a large amount of the meat out for the wolves that seemed to follow her, but she had a start on the coming winter.

The next week on her trip she walked for most of the day, in what direction she wasn't sure. She just kept walking and avoiding towns. Rena had never been very fond of men, and had hated that she had to be married to a man that she wanted nothing to do with only to please her family. Anger ran through her these days, something she had never really dealt with and she often found herself having the strangest dreams and imagining eating the raw meat she cooked, before she cooked it. The dreams were getting stranger and stranger and she couldn't help but feel like she was seeing images in her head and hearing thoughts in her head that weren't her own. She refused however to admit that she was crazy and so she continued to plow her way toward the unknown. One day as it neared sunset she had made camp for the day and was sitting in front of her small campfire, roasting two rabbits she had shot that afternoon, when suddenly she got a message in her head that someone was coming. She smelled him and it was a man, she crouched down in front of the fire, her knife in her hand, the one she had made out of deer bone, and glared out into the forest, she would gut him before she let another man touch her ever again...

The chill night air made her long for her bed at home... [stop it, she thought. Stop thinking of home, mother, father and all that she left behind. But she couldn't help but worry about her youngest sister Korrena and the emotionally distance the family had been adapting to. She shook her head... I hope she will be alright...

The smells of the forest were nearly putrid in comparison to what she remembered. The dirt under the wayward pine was moist and clung to her palms; she had no idea how rich and rancid dirt smelled like. A beetle roamed though the fallen leaves and at the moment of seeing it she realized that although it was pitch dark, she could see it glistening as clearly as full moon or even better than full moon. The sheltering pine was not letting any light in... she was amazed by it all but, frightened in an excited way as well.

Her heightened senses could hear little animals scurrying to where ever they were going, The Owl's flight as it's wings beat in her ears was practically noisy! The sheer wonder of it all. She sighed deeply and as she exhaled all the pent up anxiety, she realized just how tired she was. It must have been midnight by now. She rummaged through the knapsack and tore off a quarter of the bread and a chunk of the cheese. A small water skin in the knapsack would get her by for this night but she would have to find a stream or something clean to drink from, from now on. From now on...... The emptiness of it hit her. “Where will I go? What will become of me”, she whispered to herself. All she did know was that she had left, but her only thought was to get to a wayward pine. Now she would have to find her way in life … alone.

She tucked away the water skin and covered herself up with her cloak as she lay her head in the only pillow available; her knapsack. Many things wrapped around her mind as she lay there falling asleep … whirling images of forest creatures. But in the back, in a place she could not quite focus to she could hear something … breathing. No, panting. The harder she tried to see the creature the more she desired to see it. Then she heard that buzzing noise again and immediately remembered; flies. The buzzing grew louder and louder until she saw it. Misty gray creatures moving over each other, snarling and snapping at each other. Moving closer in her mind to see what they were doing, what made them so excited, so she crept. Suddenly when she was right behind the creatures, two of them turned to her and smiling teeth drenched in blood with tell tale signs of meat hanging between their teeth. Wolves! 12 wolves in all! But she was not afraid this time and they seemed to welcome her as they moved aside to allow her closer to the source. When she saw the bull Elks viscera shredded and blood pooling at their feet it didn’t bother her this time. She felt the drool start and her stomach growled. All she knew at this second was that the wet meat was all she wanted. She opened her jaw… as wide as a wolf and lunged …

A noise. She was suddenly awakened by a sound right outside the wayward pine. She could feel the drool eek down her chin and she unconsciously wiped it away. Whatever it was it was moving around the pine. The steps were light, delicate and careful. There… she could see something between a few bows of pine. The animal was brown and short haired. It stood there as she slowly reached through the pines and softly touched it’s fur. The animal twitched its muscle under her fingertip but didn’t move a hair more than that. She was mesmerized by the feeling of it’s fur. Then a snort came and it bolted only to be brought down by a screaming, violent carnivore. She backed up against the pine’s trunk and kept pushing herself backwards until she half stood.

Between the pined bows she saw the attacker. It was a bear! It roared to the forest, that it had made a kill, as the bloodied bull elk lay before its clawed front paws. The deafening roar was that made my the master of the forest. Koramena was struck with such fear that she could not breath! How long will this go on? Will it soon discover her? If she ran now, out the back maybe she had a chance…. Again, more noises came from outside, but these animals sounds she was familiar with! Howling! As the howling grew closer that bear became more and more nervous. The bear reached down with its massive jaws and tore a huge chunk of meat from the loin of the Elk and ran off into the night. Her fingers went instinctively to her bow leaning up against the tree. She gripped it, as the tears of fear slid down her cheeks. She kept silent, waiting. Her movements as she knocked the bow were as tight and measured as a rattle snake.

The howling never came closer, she never saw a single wolf. But the smell of the bloody elk outside the pine was nearly over-powering in smell. Blood and guts. She dropped her bow as she heaved up until she could not heave any more. The site of the animal did not effect her like it had in her dream. She did not sleep the rest of the night and had sat up against the pine trunk the rest of the night, with her bow in her hand. It wasn’t long before early dawn was peeking over the furthest treetops.

Her memories of the dream were so vivid in her head and she felt nauseous, each time the image of the bloody teeth came to her mind. Not to mention the bear and elk incident … thought it was weeks ago she had the same dream each night, but each night she ate along side the elk. On the last two nights though she didn’t see herself in the dream but she did see a new, young slender wolf join the pack where she once had.

Her journey through the forest was always eventful but she was getting better at avoiding danger. She was stalked for a while by a Mountain Lion but it had eventually decided she wasn’t tasty enough, she guessed. She had discovered bushes of berries and mushrooms and put them in her knapsack. She had created a snare with the rope, catching rabbit and squirrels with the cheese and apple pieces. She cooked the tender meat over a spit, opting not to use her bow since it sometimes fouled the meat if she hit it wrong. She found wild apple and plum trees in the forest as well.

Life wasn't too bad but it was lonely. She thought often of her family but the tears came less and less. One night she prepared to sleep under another wayward, setting her nearly empty knapsack on the grown as her pillow but the rustling of the forest leaves meant more than wind passing by. She distinctly hear foot steps but due to her excellent hearing as of late, knew that they were still far enough away to escape. She looked up into the wayward pine and found a route in which to climb as she hauled he knapsack with her. She settled on a low branch so that she could see who it was. A very familiar smell wafted through the air … what is that smell? Her memory took her back home, up the stairs and into her twin Katrina’s room. She cocked her head sideways with confusion.

Contrary to the poor luck of her sisters, Korrena was having a wonderful time after leaving home. She knew that her sister was safe, somehow she could just feel that all was okay. So instead of rushing after Rena once she left the docks of Cairhien she meandered her way with Windy along side trails and avoiding what felt like unsafe area's in the woods and along the main road. She didn't need to be taken back home and she didn't want to go home. After all, this was her first time out of the house alone. Being the youngest it was always something Mother was ever so strict about it. it could be rather irritating, but now she was free.

And it felt so flaming good!

The food lasted longer then she had expected even though she was sharing bits of it with Windy and she stayed well energized during her 'trip'. After a few days she started to get a little board of the constant tree's. She loved playing with Windy but it was time to get back and look for Rena. Wandering aimlessly following a direction that felt like it made sense, she stayed silent as Windy rested on her shoulders. But luck was with her as she came across Mena!

Mena!!

Tempted to wander up and say hi, she thougth better of it. Looking at er face she looked worried. Maybe she needed some lightening up. Mena was watching everything around her so carefully. Perfect!

Crawling into a bush beside Mena very quietly, silence was golden as a brush of winds caught the branches around her muffling her sound. Creaping closer she waited a moment... and anouther moment... and then..

RAWR!!

Pouncing out of the bush she Grabbed onto Mena's leg growling as loud as she could. A blood curtling scream escaped Mena as Korrena gave mena no time to react before she was on her feet again running away from Mena laughing.

As the foot steps drew nearer to Koramena, the scent she thought she smelled started to change. She was sure it was Katrina and was aghast at thinking her twin was in the woods. Her confusion was at a peek when just seconds before she was lurched out of the pine tree, she had heard the footsteps under her.

She fell to a thud on the soft pine needles below, “RAWWR” was all she heard, as she squeezed her eyes shut to brace the fall. She quickly gained her composure and straightened; no fear since this, rawring noise was definitely not an animal… she recognized that voice!

Before her, in a crouch was he little sister, Korrena. Her dark blue eyes were pinpointed on Koramena but the expression on Nana’s face was worth a million crowns. She had gotten the best of “Mena”.

Mena, jumped up in a rush and though she was dismayed at being pulled out of the tree she was both in wonder and thrilled to see her little sister. “Nana, Nana…” She held her, rocking back and forth for a few seconds but as she parted she was frowning. “What are you doing here?! Where did you come from… if Ma and Pa knew….” She cut off knowing that its been weeks since she left and if her sister was with her now, she must have left nearly around the same time. Of course their parents knew. Now.

She drifted back away from Nana and lifted her head, closed her eyes… “Of course they know,” she paused and looked at Rena who was still smiling a little, “their hearts must be broken at losing three daughters all at once. But Nana, why are you following me? You need to go home this instant!” She stood grabbing Nana’s arm and hoisting her up. There was great resistance to her pull. She swung her head to meet her eyes again, “What is wrong with you?! You must go…”

As far as traveling companions were concerned, Timewalker wasn't exactly the worst one Anton could have had. In fact, compared to a few of the Wolfkin he had to say that Timewalker was most certainly preferable, like Owen who would have liked to have had him swinging from a tree if not sunk his own teeth into Anton's neck. As far as Anton was concerned, there was a madness in that man. Nevermind that what he had done was just a prank, that Owen should have been able to sense that.

But, thankfull Anton didn't have to deal with him. Well, except for in his capacity as Head Tracker. He had to attend councils that made various decisions that impacted on the stedding. It was there he also saw Miryana more, and he'd been able to finally meet Leila who was Sohvi's mentor. Not that they really had the chance to speak much, they were there to perform their duties and not much else. With Timewalker keeping him busy he had little time to socialise with others and get to know them.

It wasn't that Timewalker hadn't made progress, indeed if she hadn't then Anton wouldn't have taken her along with him out of the stedding. But she was still struggling, still trying to find her way and find her place. So much was lost to her, the part of her that grieved also didn't want her to embrace the now because it meant letting go. But then, that was why he had brought her.

She had been training to become a Tracker in her time. She had some of the skills necessary to deal with wanderers, but furthermore it would give her something that he doubted that she had felt since she had arrived. To feel needed. Maybe it would help her ground herself, use what she knew to help others, realise that there was a place for her in this time.

It was also because there were multiple wanderers to be found, something that confused Anton a great deal. It was rare for wanderers to be in the same area, but there was something else about these. Anton wasn't quite sure he was understanding what he was being shown by the wolves in the area, so instead he decided to simply investigate and discover what he could. He could understand feelings and images that flowed from the wolves, but in many ways there was no substitute for words.

While they had been travelling hard through the day, they were so close to the nearest wanderer that Anton had decided to push on regardless. Sooner they got to them, the sooner they could take them back to the stedding and work them through their howling. It was only an hour after sunset that they neared the fire of the wanderer they were after. Signalling for his student to stay hidden, Anton emerged from his cover only to find a woman crouched before the fire with a dagger in hand. Hostility and mistrust flowed from the woman like water from a spring and Anton found himself wondering whether this was going to end well. Still, the way she held herself Anton was fairly certain he could handle her if it came to that.

Before he could say anything, there was a yell in the distance. One of the other wanderers was close? Danger? Turning towards the noise he began to run as he called over his shoulder. "Stay with that one and keep her safe! I'll get the other!"

Not looking to see if Timewalker did as she was told and praying she would call him if she needed help, Anton left the fire and went in search of the noise. The location of the disturbance was only a minute away and when Anton stumbled onto the scene, all he could do was stand there in shock as he watched. One girl was wrapped around the leg of another, and the one who was standing looked exactly like the woman who had been left at the fire. Remarkably so in fact. A sister? The images that the wolves had sent began to make sense, the idea of a litter had been more accurate than he had thought.

Not that his arrival had gone unnoticed, the pair of them were staring at him in turn as if he were the Dark One himself. Holding up his free hand before him as a gesture of peace, Anton pulled himself together as he spoke. "My name is Anton. Come with me, your sister is nearby with my companion." Turning, Anton began walking back to the fire and hoped they would follow. It was best to simply assume these things, besides it showed he had no hostile intention. And if either of them had developed their sense of smell well enough they might be able to get hints of his feelings that he allowed to flow freely from him. Trust, acceptance, friendliness, reassuring feelings.

She smiled up brilliantly at Mena after her sister let her go. She chuckled a little and shruged with a carefree wink. "Why go home? I would rather be out of that stupid house and with Rena any day. Besides," She held up her pack, "I brought food." Mena looked down at her and Korrena grinned and then relatchedself to Mena's leg. "I've missed youuuuuuuuuuu!!!" She whinned, as a sudden tug pulled her to look at the thcket that had a man emerge. He was short, Cairhien?

Holding up his free hand before him as a gesture of peace, Anton pulled himself together as he spoke. "My name is Anton. Come with me, your sister is nearby with my companion."

First staring at the man, Mena and Korrena shared a look and then Korrena unlatched herself from Mena's leg, standing up. Windy was already approaching Anton as she moved out of Mena's reach and held out her hand to Anton.

"Hi! I'm Korrena. That's my sister Koramena, but I call her Mena. You know where Rena is? Wait... " She paused nearly yanking his hand back and towards her. "Your eyes... Their gold.. Like Rena's became... Why are they gold? Will Mena's eyes go gold to cause they are twins? Is it a bad thing? It's very pretty though." She sort of muttered as she looked into his eyes as a merely endles pool of curiosity and trust surrounded her as well as a quiet innoence.

Laughing, Anton was surprised at the flood of questions that came as well as the look that he was being given. The girl was like an overenthusiastic cub, entirely trusting and thankfully not the sort of wanderer who was liable to stab him, unlike the other sister he had left with Timewalker. But, she'd sent no images asking for help so Anton assumed she had the girl in hand. "You should know, look into your little companion's eyes down there." Nodding down at the young pup who had already started bombarding him with thoughts, he was reminded of Janna's young one. "Your eyes will turn as well which is why I am here. But, we will talk more of that when we are with your sister. Come on."

Dropping his hand with almost a bit of shock as she turned to look at Mena and then at Windy. Her eyes gold and looking up at her with a very simple thought. Mine. "But I can't talk to wolves. Only Rena can. I mean can I learn? Really?" She looked to Anton and grinned, "That is just too COOL!"

"It isn't exactly talking." Smiling bemusedly, he wondered if she was always this happy. It would make a pleasant change. Well, that was a harsh thought, and Timewalker wasn't that bad and neither was Sohvi, but sometimes it wore. Then again, he never really... well. "They communicate with images and feelings. Its more basic, but at the same time its more complex. But from what he tells me." Anton nodded at the pup. "You can hear him already."

"Windy?" She grinned. "We just understand eachother. That is all." She winked at him, ignoring the slight tug she felt that didn't feel so happy. She turned and walked over to pull on Mena's hand fo follow them. "Come ON Mena! We got to go with Anton to find Rena, NOW!" She practically wined out of excitment, begging for her to follow. She needed to see if Rena was okay. It felt important to be urgent, and Mena was moving far too slow!

Mena so loved her little sister. Her bright eyed enthusiasm, go forth and conquer spirit has always given her a shining speck of hope that there just has to be more people like her in the world. Well, she could hope anyway. She softly chuckled when Nana grabbed her leg. It flooded back to her all the times when she was so tiny and did that to both Mother and Father. Cute as it was walking was problematic at best with Nana attached to your leg, for a scoot across the floor.

When she stood up, she came to a realization as it dawned on her, just how “grown” Nana really was. When did that happen? Was she so busy in her own life not to notice? Well, their family life was a busy one that was for sure.

“You would need to go home because both Mother and Father will not take it well that all three of their daughters went missing. There is only one left for them to dote over and you are going to miss all the benefits of that?”

"Why go home? I would rather be out of that stupid house and with Rena any day. Besides," Showing her, her pack, "I brought food." She said. Mena looked down at her and Korrena grinned and then quickly, relatched herself to Mena's leg. "I've missed youuuuuuuuuuu!!!" She expressed to Mena with such a cute whine.

How could she resist such pleading as that? Well, being in the woods now, just wasn’t going to do. She would have to rethink her strategy as she would have her young sister in tow. There was no way she would go home unless she marched her back herself… and even then, she may drag her heels to no end. She sighed a deep sigh of acquiesce, letting go of all thoughts of going back.

“Good thing you brought food along with you Nana because I would have to make you hunt… and you don’t usually like all this outdoors…” Mena’s head jerked upwards so that she could try to make out this new smell, that was getting stronger and stronger. Who or whatever it was, was fast approaching. She halfway started to reach for Nana in a protective nature but just then an arm reached for her and lightly tugged at Nana’s dress. The arm was quite hairy, she followed the arm to a face, and to his golden eyes. She jumped just a little seeing them. He was fair yet, he appeared to “be the woods” dressed like he belonged there. They both were then, staring at him.

Nana, always more trustful than either her or Kristina, took the man’s hand for a few moments as the exchange began; "Hi! I'm Korrena. That's my sister Koramena, but I call her Mena. You know where Rena is? Wait... " Then, Nana yanked her hand safely back. "Your eyes... Their gold.. Like Rena's became... Why are they gold? Will Mena's eyes go gold to cause they are twins? Is it a bad thing? It's very pretty though."

Mena was astounded that this man’s eyes were just like hers! And what was this? Rena’s eyes had turned too? As Rena left the compound that day, she was far to high up to see Rena’s eyes as she left… So that is why… she thought. Then, he told them that Rena was at a campsite near them, that news was just astounding!!

Just then the wolf pup meandered over an plopped down near Nana. This must have been the “windy” she was referring to?

The man said to Nana, "You should know, look into your little companion's eyes down there." He nodded towards the pup. "Your eyes will turn as well which is why I am here. But, we will talk more of that when we are with your sister. Come on." What were they talking about? Talking to who?

"It isn't exactly talking." The man explained further, "They communicate with images and feelings. Its more basic, but at the same time its more complex. But from what he tells me, you can hear him already."

"Windy?" Nana spoke to the pup. "We just understand each other. That is all." Mena saw that both the pup and Nana had grown quite close. But this got her to thinking about the dreams she kept having, and slowly she remembered… The wolves in her dreams, had spoken to her. In images.

Nana raised up and grabbed Mena's hand, pulling slightly to follow them. "Come ON Mena! We got to go with Anton to find Rena, NOW!" Mena still wasn’t quite sure about what was happening or who this man was. But, he then turned and walked away as if they were to follow him. This was a most curious man.

“Nana,” she pulled her close, “we do not know this man, though he seems to know a lot about us, about what is happening to us.” She paused with a careful thought. Then reached up into the pine and pulled down her bow & arrows and knapsack. “Well, I suppose we better go find Rena. At least we will all be together again.”

((Sorry all! Was away for the weekend :P Have no fear.. i'm back :P)

It had been an interesting time, travelling with Anton. While Anabel was becoming a little more comfortable with the people in the Stedding, it was still only Anton she felt didn't look at her with something else in his eyes, like an unspoken accusation of insanity or an unquenchable need to ask questions about a time and place Anabel couldn't allow herself to go anymore.

No matter how she tried to let herself drown in the past, part of her remembered to keep breathing, to take another lungful of air to keep her moving in this time. The wolves beckoned constantly, the tantalizing throught of running with them, of losing herself to memory and pain and never having to relive it again.

But that was not who she was. She was more than that and though she struggled constantly to find exactly who she could be now, she was managing, day by day. Anton helped. Anton gave her a purpose to keep moving. Tonight was one of those things.

As they approached the fire she crouched low and out of the way as he asked so as not to startle the Wanderer. She let her sensed roam out as far as she dared now and felt other things moving about her, things in motion.

Before she could figure out what they were, there was a scream. Anton yelled at her to stay with the girl, though it was hard to understand his words as he ran off. It was really a guess at this point. Something about the girl and since they had come to help her, she assumed it was to stay with her, though it irked her to watch Anton move off to danger without her. Thoughts of gray rooms and Joran buried in an unknown grave shook her for a moment as she almost followed Anton, but she held back.

She looked at the woman before her and held her hands up. She tried talking slowly so that her accent wouldn't be so hard for the woman to understand. "We're friends." She said softly. "We're here to help you. My name is TimeWalker."

Clutching her knife tightly she heard a low pitched whinging, she looked out into the darkness and tried to see who was there. It didn't even click in her head that the growling was coming from her own throat, she wanted to know who was growling at her. She heard a scream and she cringed in fear, a female voice was screaming not much distance from her. Rena was still in touch with her human side enough to know that it was a human screaming. She heard a man scream and then she saw a woman step into the firelight. The woman held her hands up in peace and spoke softly, "We're friends. We're here to help you. My name is TimeWalker." Rena blinked at her and clutched her knife to her chest, she continued to growl and was about to pounce at the woman and try to get rid of the threat to her when she saw the firelight glint off of the golden eyes, just like the ones in her own face. The ones that she had seen in the mirror right before she walked away from everyone she loved, giving up everything she ever wanted, or cared about.

A cry escaped her throat, though it sounded more like a whimper. She gazed at the other woman and spoke, her voice rough from lack of use. "Your eyes are just like mine? I thought I was the only one!" She stopped for a minute as she waited for the other woman's answer. When she heard it she spoke again, "Who screamed, I heard a man out there and a woman. You weren't the woman, I can sense others in the area, more females." She gained her feet, and stood at her full height, it felt like she had been crouching there with a dagger in her hand for a long time. "If that man trys to hurt me I swear I will rip his throat out with my teeth." She bared her teeth and growled again as she felt the other people getting closer to the camp, she could smell them now and there was something familiar about them. Several people stepped into the area her campfire was in and see stepped backward to escape the onslaught of bodies. She tripped over the log behind her, landing on her bottom on the other side, and looked up to see her sister Mena standing above her with her hand held out and golden eyes just like hers. Rena blinked and then took her twins hands.

A smile blossomed on her face, her sister had golden eyes just like her and the other woman she had spoken to earlier. She looked out behind the fire and saw someone else step into the light of the fire. Her little sister Nana stood before her, her eyes weren't gold but has a wolfcub at her feet. Rena looked at the wolf and seemed to sense images from it, she nodded her head at it and turned to look at the last person, a man had stepped into the light, and she could see the fire glinting off of the gold in his eyes. She eyed him and spoke, "This is very strange." Clearing her throat she heard a cry and felt a set of arms wrap around her, she looked into the eyes just like hers and then felt Nana hug them as well...

She would not admit this, but Korrena was growing increasingly worred of Rena. She missed her and after seeing Anton and his funny golden eyes, she wasnted to know that Rena was okay. She knew that she was safe if there was wolves around, it just felt right. Following, they energed, and in the clearing a different emotion was there. More than one.

Relief.

Curiosity.

Wary.

Mena was faster then her in the quickness of embrace of her sister. Korrena smiled for a moment before bounding up and practically tackling the two of them around.

"See?! We're all together again! 'Rena is jsut fine, see? I told you Mena! And now we can go eat with the wolves and be free. No more of those soddy boring lessons." She grins and she nuzzled her head into her sisters stomach, and grined. "As long as we are together it's all okay!" She paused. "Why are we here anyways?" She then left the embrace as quickly as she tackled it. "Anton? Why is this happening to 'Rena and 'Mena?"

Mena ran to Rena when she tripped backwards over the log. For a moment she stared into her sister’s golden eyes, letting her soak in the moment and her heart jumped to see her smile. This affirmed to her; we will all be alright. The connection between them was one of knowing. She sensed her sister most of all. Yes, she did sense the wolves in the forest and she sensed the wolf pup, Anton and the other person. But, a twin is anchored to the twin sister’s feelings, emotions, as closely as her own from birth. This sensation was as if they shared spiritually, physically… something much more.

Mena’s embrace with her sister was tighter than she ever remembered hugging her. She was so relieved to see her sister was alive and well as much as to be expected anyway. They parted just in time as Nana came into the fires light. The reaction from Rena was not the same as her own arrival. She did have a moment with the wolf pup that she also shared with both Rena and Nana. Before this moment, she realized how much she had fought these changes and that was why the dreams were so… violent and horrifying. It was replaced by a silent, warm, enveloping answer.

Nana came running over to both of them as they parted and the enthusiasm in her embracing the changes taking place in all of them calmed her and worried her at the same time.

"See?! We're all together again! 'Rena is just fine, see? I told you Mena! And now we can go eat with the wolves and be free. No more of those soddy boring lessons." They were engulfed by Nana’s zest for life, for the unknown and her total willingness to not question any of this. For one second Mena thought… maybe her way is better. Acceptance.

"As long as we are together it's all okay!" Nana pause with that “look” in her eye… the questions were coming… "Why are we here anyways?” She seemed to ask the entire group. But then she wheeled around and faced this… Anton person and pointedly asked the question that was burning in their hearts and minds.

"Anton? Why is this happening to 'Rena and 'Mena?" Funny that she didn’t ask about herself?

Three sisters.

Anton had never heard of anything like it truth be told, he couldn't even think of two siblings who had been wolfkin and now three like this? Near on unheard of yet it couldn't be disputed, even if the younger one's eyes had yet to discover their true colour. Letting them talk to one another as he approached Timewalker, he got a simple nod when he enquired whether she was alright. It wasn't something that Anton would have done ideally, left her alone with a new wanderer, but it had paid off at least. The tension that had exuded from the first of the sisters they had discovered wasn't nearly as overpowering now, indeed the scents that came to him were a mix of surprise, happiness and love.

Most certainly different to his usual encounters with Wanderers.

It wasn't long before one of them decided to address him, the younger one who had demonstrated earlier that she was as bold as squirrel and had a similar propensity for trees or so the cub had revealed to him. Smiling slightly, Anton gestured to the fire. "Before I begin, you all might want to get yourselves a seat and make yourselves comfortable. This explaining always takes a bit."

Leaning on his stave as he waited, it wasn't long before they were settled which meant he was ready to continue. "First of all, you might have noticed that my eyes are golden. Same as Timewalker over there, same as 'Rena and 'Mena, same as the wolfcub and in time, your eyes too will change young one. You may or may not have noticed that your senses are sharpening, or that you can understand that wolfcub there, your dreams may have even begun to change. These things mark you as Wolfkin, the same as me and my companion."

"Now, before we go any further, let me make clear that this is not the Dark One's work. Some of the wanderers, thats people who are becoming Wolfkin like yourself, believe that. Especially from Amadicia. The truth is that this is a very old thing, as old as the Wheel itself, as old as the First Day. Men used to run alongside wolves, but over time they became different. Yet there are some of us who can tap that ancient heritage, and you three now number amongst us."

"Or will." Straightening, Anton measured his words before he voiced them. "Every new Wolfkin goes through what is called the 'Howling'. Its when the wolf side of you is asserting itself, during which you'll no doubt feel all sorts of odd urges, and you have to learn to accept that side of you. At the same time, you have to not give yourself over to it or you'll lose your humanity forever. Essentially you have to balance the two out, and thats why me and my companion are here. We'll be taking you to where there are others of our kind, many people who have gone through what you are going through now and they will be able to help you."

Grinning easily, Anton relaxed on his stave again. "We will do what we can of course, but we are but two and there are others there who are older and wiser. But, first of all what questions do you have? Also, are any of you hungry?"

Nana started bouncing around and Rena was almost overwhelmed after her weeks alone, her head shot back and forth between all of them as Nana spoke, "See?! We're all together again! 'Rena is just fine, see? I told you Mena! And now we can go eat with the wolves and be free. No more of those soddy boring lessons. As long as we are together it's all okay! Why are we here anyways?” Rena eyed him, her hackles still up as she waited for him to speak, "Anton? Why is this happening to 'Rena and 'Mena?" Rena waited silently for him to speak, her thoughts, emotions, and images in her mind in a rolling mix. "Before I begin, you all might want to get yourselves a seat and make yourselves comfortable. This explaining always takes a bit." She stepped backward, never turning her back on him, she was not at all sure of this man. A part of her told that not all men were as horrible as the drunk who had stuck his hand beneath her dress but a more primal part of her told her that she needed to get rid of all threats.

These things mark you as Wolfkin, the same as me and my companion. Now, before we go any further, let me make clear that this is not the Dark One's work. Some of the wanderers, thats people who are becoming Wolfkin like yourself, believe that. Especially from Amadicia. The truth is that this is a very old thing, as old as the Wheel itself, as old as the First Day. Men used to run alongside wolves, but over time they became different. Yet there are some of us who can tap that ancient heritage, and you three now number amongst us." She looked at both her sisters, now they would both have to deal with this thing, had she brought it on them, had she somehow did this to more than half of her sisters. A shudder ran through her and the guilt ate at her, she just wanted to run away and hide from all this.

"Or will. Every new Wolfkin goes through what is called the 'Howling'. We'll be taking you to where there are others of our kind, many people who have gone through what you are going through now and they will be able to help you." Rena thought silently about that, Light should she go to this place, there had to be men there, but then maybe someone could help her. She felt like she was losing herself and this craving to exert dominance over everyone was getting out of control, on top of which yesterday she had been really hot and had the weird feeling she wanted to roll his bear feces to make herself cool down.

"We will do what we can of course, but we are but two and there are others there who are older and wiser. But, first of all what questions do you have? Also, are any of you hungry?" She cleared her throat, she felt as the oldest sisters she should speak first, and her protective instincts were in overdrive. "I am hungry, I have some rabbits here on the fire, I tend to eat everything pretty raw though." She blushed and then continued, "I think my sisters and I need to talk alone without you about our future, but first we eat, and I watch my back and theirs just so you know." She glared at him and her last words came out a growl...

There was comfort in hearing what Anton had to say. It cleared up so many questions but, part of her still felt "diseased" in some way. How could this... just happen like this?

"Now, before we go any further, let me make clear that this is not the Dark One's work. Some of the wanderers, thats people who are becoming Wolfkin like yourself, believe that."

This really hadn't occured to her... But now that he said it, she could understand those suspicions.

"Men used to run alongside wolves, but over time they became different. Yet there are some of us who can tap that ancient heritage, and you three now number amongst us."

Mena gave a start at wondering why she had never heard of this. They were a well to do family, had a great education and studied in ancient hitory. She thought that maybe, just maybe... anything about "supersticions" were not told to them. After all, their parents were very stuffy and would find that to be gossip and rumor.

Finding out that they would go through urges that were so powerful made her feel like something was creeping up on her. She shivered. She was equally frightened or maybe more so to think that they could possibly, lose all their humanity if they weren't careful. She looked towards Nana and wondered how she would fair. She started to feel hopeless.

She peered at Rena, trying to read her expressions and for once found it difficult. But then she realized that she now shared a true connection with her sister that was to be deeper than what Twins share. She started to reach out to her mentally.... She caught the tale end of something... "rolling in feces?" Ugh!

But, first of all what questions do you have? Also, are any of you hungry?" Rena spoke first, "I am hungry, I have some rabbits here on the fire, I tend to eat everything pretty raw though," and then she blushed as being ashamed to desire such a thing. But in truth... Mena felt the urge to drool as she saw the mental image projected by Rena

Rena said, "I think my sisters and I need to talk alone without you about our future, but first we eat, and I watch my back and theirs just so you know."

Strangely, it occured to her that she had always deferred to Rena when they were together. It just seemed the natural thing.

"I am quite concerned about Nana going through this change. I know that both Rena and I are made of serious stock and are more apt to deal with this challenge, but look at Nana..." They all looked towards her. "She still plays with dolls. She regards that wolf pup in the same fashion as a toy." The second she said it, she knew that Nana would protest.

Korrena sputtered and pulled away from the twins FAST.

"Dolls?! A fascinating toy." She growled in a voice that was not really hers, it was deeper, more solid. "Is that all you ever thought that I did or was good for?" Her voice grew deeper as images of a lone library, a lone kitchen, everything silent everything empty, except for a lone child that held a lone book, or a lone doll, or a lone pot that would cook a lone meal. Everything about Korrena was alone.

"If you knew of half the things I know and actually paid attention to more than your simple studies and duties you would not be in this mess so far and deep." Korrena edged towards Anton and Timeweaver and away from her sisters. "You may or may not accept what is inevitable. I Knew when i met Windy. I knew when I saw your eyes change, that mine would change too. And If this is a place I will be accepted, than here is where I will roam."

Her eyes flickered to and from 'Rena and 'Mena. The sudden fear in their eyes was enough to push that Anger, the loniness into the bottle that it came from. She smiled as she always did, leaving nothing on the surface and only the happy longing to be accepted. "I'm not hungry. But there is still plenty of food in my 'knap." Scrambling to where she dropped it, ignoring the images and feelings of emotions that torrented from those around her. "Did you want anything? Anton? Time?"

Anabel was getting better at understanding the strange accents around her, but still the fast barrage from the girls was leaving her a few steps behind. She stood behind FarPaw, partly to watch his back and partly because she knew that he has to take the lead with these girls. She had enough trouble dealing with her own past and knew that she wasn't up to helping three people through all of this. Still, FarPaw would need help with this many and she coudln't just back away, thought the emotional turmoil made her want to hide.

Images passed from the girls and it wasn't until the last, the youngest, pushed images of her lonliness that Anabel really felt she understood anything that was happening. The other girls seemed taken aback by what they saw, or perhaps the tone of voice that their youngest used, she wasn't sure.

When the girl asked if they wanted anything, Anabel moved over to her. Not that she our FarPaw would need anything, since they were both capable of catching whatever they needed, but more to be a source of support to the girl There were many many things in this world that she couldn't understand, but lonliness was one of them. "What do you have?" She asked slowly, trying to make her thick accent easier for the girl to understand.

IC:

Korrena smiled brightly at Time. She felt alright to her and if Time were to step forward and actually be polite than she was good in her books. Glancing at Windy images of home seemed different and turned as what would would think they would when life were to change. She looked to Time, carefully in the eyes.

"You have really pretty eyes too. A little brighter than Antons. His seems a slight shade darker. I hope mine are brighter too." Shifting her pack she looked in carefully. "I have some dried meats, salted and a some berries and such. Mostly things in the kitchen that keep for more than a few days. All the bread and cheese are gone though." Korrena smiled impishly. "The salted meat isn't very good though. I had some yesterday and it turned my stomach funny. Windy didn't like it either. But I thought that Rena would have wanted some so I kept it." Korrena fowned a little with her outspoken thoughts. "I suppose I don't need it anymore since she would rather eat raw meat than salt cooked meat, wouldn't she." It was a question that didn't need answering, but Korrena still pouted a little that what she brought was no good.

Anabel smiled at the young girl as she spoke of the items she still had. She listened carefully to the girls words and it only took a couple moments before she understood everything. She spoke softly, but still slowly, to the youngest sister. "I have bread if you are willing to share some berries. I am fond of berries, but I didn't think to pick any along the way." She admitted.

"But I like the color of your eyes now." She said, looking at Korrena's eyes which had yet to change color. "Some days I wish I could have my old eyes back..." She took a deep breath before the rest of her thoughts could catch up. What would she give for her old life back? She shook away the thought and concentrated on the girl before her. She was here for a reason. She was here to help. Light, she WOULD be of some use to someone!

Anabel/Timewalker

*************************************************************

Anton wasn't sure of what to make of this group of wanderers, sisters no less. The one they had first found, Rena, she had been quick to assert her authority and to make decisions. Her twin, Mena was certainly a twin, was quick to concur which suggested that Rena was the dominant twin. Her comment about the youngest, Nana, was what really blew things open. Even as the words came so too did the images and scents that revealed more than her words ever could. Her sisters wouldn't have the training necessary to sort all the different images and scents out, but from the look on their faces they had caught a whiff of it.

It seemed that Nana's howling was further along than he had expected. Not only did she have the challenge of the emotional turmoil of a young girl to contend with, but also the pull of her wolfish side. But it had gone as quickly as it had come, locked away as if the feelings and emotions had never existed to begin with. Watching quietly as Timewalker walked over to Nana and began talking to her, that was at least a positive to be drawn from this. He had hoped that she would end up taking one of them under wing, their shared loneliness would give them a starting point. The depths of it they both shared, from what he had seen of Nana now and what Timewalker had assaulted him with when they had first begun her training, he would let that take its course.

But, the other two were still sitting there more than likely trying to puzzle out what happened. Sitting his stave down, he held his hands out before him as he walked around the fire to them and sat down so he could speak without Nana being able to hear them. "That is an example of the Howling, sudden swings of mood. For some its happiness, others sadness, in Nana's case it appears to be anger. We can help her at the stedding, as we can the pair of you when your Howling truly manifests itself. After dinner, me and Timewalker will give the three of you time to discuss what you want to do, but I'm going to be honest."

"You will 'have' to come with us." Anton could sense Rena's hackles raising but he continued. "The reason being this. You saw how angry Nana was? Without help, that will consume her, as will her wolvish side yet it will never reconcile with the human. The result is a maddened beast, one that kills with their claws." Anton held up his hands. "And their teeth. I almost killed the Tracker who found me because of that madness, and if I had ever wandered across travellers..."

Anton shrugged at them, they could draw their own conclusions. "There have only been a few that have left the stedding and their fellow Wolfkin once they mastered themselves, but that option will be available to you once you are no longer a danger to yourself and those around you. Also the Wolfkin, we survive and elude persecution by remaining hidden, sightings of golden eyed folk draw attention to us and maddened golden eyed killers as you can imagine attract a lot more. Unless you want blood on your hands, and sooner or later you will, you'll come with us to get help."

Standing, Anton looked at them as he finished with. "I've never forgiven myself for almost killing Janna. Maybe you are different and have no such cares, but I think not. Either way, we will give you time to speak of it." Turning away, he went to his pack and began to fish out some cheeses and water, if he was going to have to chase them down he'd at least have a decent meal beforehand. But, he hadn't had to yet, he'd yet to come across someone who had actually wanted to become an uncontrollable killer who wanted to sink their teeth into people.

OOC: Someone want to take it past dinner? Three sisters have their convo while Anton and Timewalker may talk. Either way, this definitely satisfies the meeting req, going to start the arrival in the stedding soon, hopefully get it done today if the Forums don't crap out on me.

****************************************************************

"I am quite concerned about Nana going through this change. I know that both Rena and I are made of serious stock and are more apt to deal with this challenge, but look at Nana... She still plays with dolls. She regards that wolf pup in the same fashion as a toy." Rena blinked at her other sister and did her best not to growl, she could smell Nana's rage, she could all but feel her hackles rising. Rena couldn't think of the last time she had seen Nana play with dolls so she wasn't sure what Mena was talking about, and she didn't want to play the go between with her sisters again. They needed to fight their own battles without her getting in the middle to break it up. She pushed Nana's rage away, trying to keep it from making her go over the edge as her youngest sister reacted, "Dolls?! A fascinating toy. Is that all you ever thought that I did or was good for? If you knew of half the things I know and actually paid attention to more than your simple studies and duties you would not be in this mess so far and deep. You may or may not accept what is inevitable. I Knew when i met Windy. I knew when I saw your eyes change, that mine would change too. And If this is a place I will be accepted, than here is where I will roam."

Rena saw Nana look at her and she feared for her sister but she was also proud of her for finally speaking her mind about something. She often had felt that Nana had a wealth of emotions and that she used her talkative nature and nonsense questions to cover that up. The rage spiked up a knotch and Rena knew her sister must have seen the fear for her in her eyes. "I'm not hungry. But there is still plenty of food in my 'knap. Did you want anything? Anton? Time?" Rena watched the other female, Time she had heard the man call her and she heard the two talking quietly, she could actually pick up what they were saying, dispite the distance, which was a little surprising. Her hearing seemed to be getting by the day. The man walked around the fire and she felt her body tense, she worked on calming down, controlling her breathing, and ignoring the images that flashed through her mind of ripping his throat out with her teeth, she let him take a seat next to her sister. "That is an example of the Howling, sudden swings of mood. For some its happiness, others sadness, in Nana's case it appears to be anger. We can help her at the stedding, as we can the pair of you when your Howling truly manifests itself. After dinner, me and Timewalker will give the three of you time to discuss what you want to do, but I'm going to be honest." Rena looked at the ground and waited for him to finish, it appeared their sister was farther into this thing than any of them had known.

"You will 'have' to come with us." She turned and glared at him, her anger shooting up, the images flashing through her mind as she worked to control it. "The reason being this. You saw how angry Nana was? Without help, that will consume her, as will her wolvish side yet it will never reconcile with the human. The result is a maddened beast, one that kills with their claws. And their teeth. I almost killed the Tracker who found me because of that madness, and if I had ever wandered across travellers..." She raised her eyes to his, her golden eyes meeting his. Rena didn't think he knew he was being killed over and over in her mind but a part of her was glad to know she wasn't the only one who wanted to kill someone with her nails and teeth.

Light, she was so mad at the thought of being controlled but the thought of killing someone with her bare hands, was horrible. What if she killed a child or one of her sisters because she couldn't control this anger in her. "I've never forgiven myself for almost killing Janna. Maybe you are different and have no such cares, but I think not. Either way, we will give you time to speak of it." Rena watched as he walked away and began eating by himself. She walked over carefully and took the rabbit off the spit, which was a little better done than she liked it now. Offering the rabbit to her sister she saw a look of horror cross her face before she took it. She gazed at her sister and was beyond shocked to see drooling dripped out of Mena's mouth and down her chin. It scared her for a minute and she wondered if her sister was lost to her already, she wondered if Mena could handle this thing or if she would be consumed by the wolf. Rena suddenly saw an image cross through her mind of her sister on all paws, with her face sniffing a freshly killed deer. Rena blinked and said, "I didn't think that, did you?"

  • 4 months later...

If there were even more signs of change that were shocking, nothing could have stilled her when Nana lashed out. Mena didn't know if she could take so much so fast. She felt a chill roll up her spine in thinking that what she had first thought, may well be true. And Anton almost confirmed it saying so in his explanation of what had happened to Nana for that brief, but eye opening moment.

She supposed that the last time she actually did see Nana play with dolls had been a while, but this was her "littlle" sister... she always would be.

She watched Rena remove the rabbit from the spit and take it with them but when Rena turned to share some of it with her, all she could think for that instant, was "it's nearly bloody raw!" but, she felt something odd... again the drool rolled down her chin as the wolf thoughts claimed her emotions. She wanted it like there was no tomorrow.

Rena spoke to her and snapped her out of her trance on the rabbit. "I didn't think that, did you?" A few moments passed between them when she realized that she was sharing images with her sister. Realizing that she had shared a thought of actually being on all paws, with her face sniffing a freshly killed deer. Like the one in her dream. In her dream, she was unafraid to be wolf. How long was this going to take before she would accept it in real life?

"Rena, I cannot stop it. It scares me yet, the other part of me.... the meat you hold in your hand is compelling me to do something. Is that wrong?"

Rena regarded her sister, her thoughts flashing rapidly from place to place. She had images of two identical wolves, running through the forest together and taking down a deer with their teeth and then gorging on it's insides with their teeth. Rena pushed the images away and thought of how to answer her sisters question. Mena must have seen the same image in her head, because her eyes had widened at the twin image. "So we can somehow see the wolf images together, Mena I don't think anything is wrong with what you are seeing. I am seeing it as well, I think it's part of who we are now and we can either face this and fight becoming wolves or end up hanging from a tree, for killing someone with our teeth."

Mena thought for a second... but getting past the thrill of the chase and eating beside her sister was something out of both a bad dream and something strangely normal. As it goes with twins, the sharing of feelings and idea's is usually close, but now this? "It appears so, but these images seem to run rampid in my head! I cannot seem to stop them or even, organize them." Mena was taken aback that she felt some normalacy in wondering how to organizing her thoughts and images. But this would be a huge undertaking. "Though I am afraid to admit it Rena, I fear that running from this is not an option." They looked into each other's golden eyes and a sadness filled her... she knew that the lives they once knew, were gone. "I don't know if I can bear never seeing Mother or Father again... or watch Nana struggle with this."

Katrina nodded at her sisters feelings, it was much the same for her and she didn't know how much they could do about it. "After the way Father treated me, I don't know that I ever want to see him again Mena." A growl sounded low in her throat and she ignored it, hoping her sister hadn't heard it. She was very embarrased by this growling that she kept doing and couldn't seem to control it. Gazing at her sister she continued, "I know it's not something we can run from and in fact it's something I have been running toward for weeks, I wanted to know what was happening to me and now I know. I hate the thought of being controlled like this, especially after the way Father and Mother forced me to be betrothed to the maggot mouth with the bad breath and to grabby hands." Rena shuddered and barely caught the look on her sisters face. "Did I upset you?"

Mena's face was aglow with heat. One day she knew she would have to fess up to this but, was this the right time? "Rena, sit here," she gestured to a large fallen log. They both got comfortable and Rena decided best to talk about their Father before moving onto "her betrothed".

"Father always wanted the best for us. We didn't always agree on what that was but... Father loved you Rena, to the point of nearly neglecting Nana and myself. I had to take what I could of his affections, though we both know he was not good at showing it. Just think what it was like for Mother." They both knew what that meant.

"Grandfather was just like him, do you remember? Well, it may console you a little to realize that we are, in a small way, part of what our parents are. But then that may also frighten you."

She took Rena's hand and caressed it momentarily. "Milton, your betrothed may have been a maggot mouth... bad.... whatever." Mena shook it off, "but in other's eyes he was a champion of what meant kindness and freedom. He had a way with that smile that... well... didn't you ever notice? Doesn't matter... just know this Rena... I don't know when it happened or how it happened but, you remember how after dinner we would sometimes go out into the Garden and smell the freshly dewed grass and roses?" She waited to see it register with Rena. Many nights she had gone there. Milton had followed her more than a few times.

"Yes. Milton when there often didn't he? After dinners when Father had him over... now that I know how you feel perhaps you felt rid of him then." She blushed. "We talked many times and... well... Rena... " She didn't know how to proceed and then the images came. Him taking her hand. Mena trying to leave. But those image proceeded into his kiss. She had slapped him afterwards. She was alarmed that he would go that far, after she had discouraged his advances.

She knew Rena had seen the images.

Rena gazed at her sister in shock, she couldn’t believe that what she was seeing in those images, she couldn’t understand how her sister could have been interested in that horrible man. His very exisitence had made her want to vomit, being in the same room with him sickened her. Sadness filled her, if Mena did love this man that she must now know that there was no future for them. He would never have accepted a wife with golden eyes or one that was connected to something as strange as the wolves. She gazed sadly at her hands and then pushed the emotion aside, she knew her sister couldn’t stand pity and she didn’t want to insult her. She smiled at Mena and said, “Well our life is certainly different than it was a few months ago, and I think it’s in our best interest to go to this place he speaks of and learn to control all of it. I think we should talk to Nana before we make a final decision, it’s time we both started thinking of her as an adult.” Looking over at Nana who was talking to Timewalker, she motioned for her to come over and sit with them and then waited for her to do so…

Mena and Rena

*****************************************

As she motioned to Nana again she looked at Mena. How could they be reading each other's minds, they had always been close but not this close. Finally Rena spoke, "Well we can let this freak us out or we can use it to our advantage, imagine being able to talk to each other like this when in battle." Her eyes lite up and she imagined just for a moment the ripping of tendons and hamstrings in horses, of ripping out the jugular on a human. She shook her head and tried to push the images and the horror that abounded inside her head with them. They spoke for several minutes of things in their past and this new ability they had discovered, finally they made a decision to ask someone about it once they made it to the Stedding. However, before they even went to the stedding they needed to make a decision to go or to not go to it. She motioned for her little sister to come over again and  Korrena's continued to ignore her motions and hissing.

Some time passed and she sat munching on her dinner as she waited for Nana to come over and stop her attitude, and finally her sister seemed to give up her stuborrness for a few minutes. As soon as she sat down Rena began to speak, "Nana you are old enough and smart enough to escape from the house and make it out here alone, you deserve to make the decision with us. We need to decide if we are going to go to the stedding or try and make it on our own away from a organized group. It is obvious that we all have this affliction and it's not going to go away, in fact it's going to get stronger in both of you as I have had it the longest time. I think our best bet is to go with them and learn how to control this, I don't know about the two of you but I need to learn how to deal with this. Wanting to rip someone's throat out is not my idea of a good time and I don't want to become more wolf than I am Rena. What are your thoughts?" She listened as both her sisters spoke and then she nodded, "Ok so it seems we are going to go with them, watch this Anton character, I think he might be dangerous and don't trust any men, all they do is hurt you." She turned away and then walked back to the campfire and spoke to Anton, "We have decided to go with you, Anton." She glared at him and spoke again, "However, if you touch myself or any of my sisters or if I think for a moment you are threatning us I will not hestiate to slit your throat in your sleep." A carnal grin came over her face and she waited for him to respond...

The sisters were talking for a time as Anton and Timewalker sat together, talking.  It was up to them to decide after all, even if it wasn't really much of a decision.  Either they came with him and they got help, or they would lose themselves to the point where they would be a danger to everyone around them.  Anton wasn't going to give them that option, if he had to he would drag them to the stedding himself, not only for their own good but for those around them.  No one liked a rabid wolf, and all it took was for the balance to shift in the wrong direction to leave a wolfkin undone.

It was while Timewalker was gone to make water that the dominant sister had chosen to walk over and speak to him as he laid on his bedroll.  Looking up at her as she spoke, the threat simply got a raised eyebrow from him as he leaned back.  "Uhuh, yep, right."  That tended to sum up what he thought of her threats, if she thought that she was going to have any luck sneaking up on him while he slept, she was sorely mistaken.  She wasn't the first dangerous wanderer he had found and had to bring back to the stedding and if she tried it, she'd go to the stedding over his shoulder rather than on her own two feet.

"Actually, while you're here, let me make something clear."  Looking up at Katrina, Anton frowned.  "While I might have absolutely no care for your threats, I'd suggest you don't try the same thing with my companion.  If I find out that you've tried to intimidate her, or you've laid a hand on her in anger, you will rue it."  Laying back his head once more as he closed his eyes, Anton continued.  "And go and get some sleep, your sisters as well.  We'll be leaving before the sun is up and we have a lot of travel ahead of us."

She crossed her arms over her chest as she waited for Anton to respond to her,  "Uhuh, yep, right." Anger surged through her, he had made it sound like she wasn't a thread to him at all and that made her mad. She had trained with the best fighters in her father's lands and she knew how to use all the weapons that were available for a young woman, on top of that she was very good and hand to hand combat. "Actually, while you're here, let me make something clear." She tried to control her anger at his obvious doubt of her skills and raised her eyebrows as he spoke again, "While I might have absolutely no care for your threats, I'd suggest you don't try the same thing with my companion.  If I find out that you've tried to intimidate her, or you've laid a hand on her in anger, you will rue it." Her breath came in small pants, the anger was out of control inside of her and she was afriad she would attack him at any minute. She had no reason to attack his companion, she wouldn't hurt someone who had tried hard to be nice to them and wasn't a man. He laid his head back in dismissal and shut his eyes as though she was of no danger and no importance.  "And go and get some sleep, your sisters as well.  We'll be leaving before the sun is up and we have a lot of travel ahead of us."

That was the last straw, she had taken enough orders in her life. She had takens the orders to marry a man she hated and who's very touch repulsed her, all because her Father had said it was the right thing to do. She had left her home because that same Father hadn't wanted anything to do with his changing daughter. That was so engrained in her that she had almost been rapped when the man told her to stand still. Before she knew it she had launched herself into the air and landed on top of Anton's waist, her fist lashed out and she hit him on one side of his face, her other hand landed somewhere on his shouler region. She didn't pay much attention to that, she wanted to kill him and if she had had her knife on her person instead of sitting on top of her pack more than ten feet away, he would be dead now. Her teeth were bared in a snarl and she growled quite loudly and she tried to land another blow to his head...

The attack had been expected, but not quite in the manner it had been given.  Catching a blow to the head and then to the shoulder, Anton snagged the next punch that was thrown at him and pulled it across her body, putting her off balance as his other hand's fingers dug into her caught fist and pulled it open.  Singling out her little and ring fingers, he pulled on them sharply which brought a cry from her as she followed the way he'd wrenched her fingers in an automatic movement to save them from being broken.

Getting to his feet as he twisted her fingers and arm further, she was on her knees and crying in pain as he did so.  The other two sisters were about to approach but Anton looked to them with a far more calm than he otherwise would have had, though there was lingering anger at the blows he'd been given.  "This is exactly one of the reasons why you need help.  Look at her."  Katrina was still struggling despite the lock she'd been put in with a fury that went beyond all sense or reason as she whined from the pain.

"This could happen to you.  Uncontrollable rage is one of the things that can afflict a new Wolfkin as the identity of you as a person and as a wolf clashes.  Now I'm going to snap her out of it, and when I do I want the pair of you to take her over there because she's going to be hurt.  Shock is the only way I have of bringing her out of it for now.  I'm sorry, but you're going to have to trust me on this...  I was once her."

Pulling her fingers and arm back so that Katrina was upright instead of forced to the ground, the kick that he put between her breasts was not for the lighthearted even as he let go.  Badly winded, she curled up in a ball on the ground as she struggled to breath.  Stepping back as her sisters attended to her, Anton watched before returning to his bedroll, doubly wary now.  Sometimes that was all that a person had to snap them out of the trance, he knew that himself from when he had attacked the Tracker who had found him.

ooc- *chuckles* You called me Jade in that last sentence hun!  ;)

Katrina felt him grab her fist and she didn't pay much attention, all she wanted to do was make him pay, kill him for what has happened to her, for being a man. However it had moved beyong that, now it was a primal thing and she just wasn't thinking at all. Kill, rip, main, ripping the throat out, blood, warm blood down my throat... Those words and images of her doing those things to her were all that crossed her mind, even as he twisted her arm across her body and grabbed ahold of her fingers, splitting them apart to the point of breaking, all she thought of was killing. A growl was loud coming from deep in her throat, and she struggled even as she whined in pain at his harsh treatment.  He twisted her arm competely behind her back until she was on her knees, and the pain was horrible, she had the image of a wolf caught in a metaltrap in the woods. The wolves she had been in contact with for days sent out questoning images, they were going to come comfort her as she chewed her leg off or die, but she sensed Anton warn them off with his own images.

She dimly heard him speak to her sisters as a image of a male protecting his female was sent to the wolves, his voice sounded behind her but all she could do was whimper and growl. "This is exactly one of the reasons why you need help.  Look at her." She struggled against his arm harder, she wanted to kill him for doing this to her, for causing her pain, she had enough pain and didn't want more. I was once her." Rena heard him through the red haze but she didn't react other than to growl louder and struggle harder, if she could just get one of her claws into him, she could take him down and get his throat.

The man behind her pulled her to her feet by twisting her arm farther back and then kicked her between the breasts. She lost all her breath and hit the ground hard, she couldn't think, she couldn't breath, she was going to die. She tried to get her breath and finally managed a small gasp as she watched him walk over to his bedroll and lie back down. She curled up in a ball and tried to bring herself under control, she didn't want to sob or act like a little girl in front of this man, she refused to ever be weak and at the mercy of a man again. Minutes passed and she saw him watching her from his bedroll, he was ready for attack, she could see it in every line of his body, like a coiled spring waiting to be released. She finally caught her breath enough to stand up, she glared at him and then spoke, "Next time you do that to me I will be better trained and I will kill you, that is at least part of the reason I am going with you. I meant what I said, you touch me or my sisters and I will kill you." She smirked at him and turned her back, flipping her long hair over her shoulder in a angry motion...

Guest Arie Ronshor

Korrena stood carefully still, hoping that neither Mena and Rena would turn their attention to her. Silent she watched the exchange between Rena and the man Anton. She liked Anton. She felt she could trust him. It confused her how little her sisters trusted, and it made her sad. Forcing that confusinon into its little bottle, Korrena turned back to the girl named Time.

"I dont know, Golden eyes are by far very unique. Event ually mine will change too, but at least Windy will always hold the colour of my original eyes. I will never forget them." She smiled. "Maybe I'm lucky that way, maybe not. Personally i'm just happy to be out of the house!"
