Clash of the Redheads - Arrival Attn Rosetta

Lavinya

Recommended Posts

Lavinya held her red silk skirts with one hand, keeping them out of the dust of the street as she picked her way through the throng in Tar Valon. A free afternoon and a sudden disliking of the drapes in her chambers had led her out into the city, aiming to purchase material for new ones.

She walked with her head held high, regal as any queen. The great serpent ring on her finger flashed in the bright sunlight, that same light setting her red hair aflame, the curls tumbling freely about her shoulders and down her back. In her mind, Lavinya was higher than any queen, her arrogance such that she considered herself smarter than most, not to mention more beautiful.

The crowd parted around her as she walked, her air of authority, combined with her appearance labeling her as an Aes Sedai for all to see. She barely inclind her head to the bows and curtseys as she passed, her attention instead on the excitingly familiar sights and sounds of the market place, the bustle enticing her and bringing the faintest of smiles to her face. Despite all her years in the tower, the simplicity of a marketplace, combined with the intricate details of bartering always appealed to her. She had long since abandoned any thoughts of being a merchant, her path having led her in another direction, namely to the shawl of Aes Sedai, yet for a short time she could forget her duties, if not her status, and enjoy.

Her steps slowed as she passed several stalls, quietly roving eyes taking in the wares as she made her way towards the cloth merchants. Her head was turned, so that she didn't see the young woman in front of her, a quick flash of red hair the only warning she received before the girl barrelled into her. Off balance, Lavinya took a step or two back, her eyes flashing as she took in the girl who had bumped her.

Red hair a similar shade to her own framed a young face, the eyes looking back at her showing no sense of respect or even apology. If anything, her assailant looked irritated! With a scowl Lavinya was forced to look up slightly, the younger being taller than herself, though she held herself with all the dignity she had. "It would be prudent of you to watch where you are going, child." She spat, her features smoothing over her irritation. Did the girl not know it was an Aes Sedai she faced? "Tell me your business girl, or shall I have you face the Tower Guard for your insolence?" Her eyes as cool as she could make them, she eyed the girl that would dare interrupt her shopping trip without the most humblest of apologies.

Rosetta Squall a tall yet stocky teenager with flowing bright red hair with a slight curl, was running through the crowd that surrounded Tar Valon looking over her shoulder every other step for the apple vender she stole an apple from. Rosetta was about to start walking again when the crowd suddenly broke and she found herself running into a woman that was slightly shorter than her.

When Rosetta recovered she realized the woman had not apologized and she glared at her. For the first time Rosetta noticed the woman’s features red hair, almost the same flaming red hers was, and when she looked at the woman’s face her stomach dropped to the ground. In her haste to get away she had run head long into an Aes Sedai.

"It would be prudent of you to watch where you are going, child." Rosetta looked back with all the defiance she could muster. "Tell me your business girl, or shall I have you face the Tower Guard for your insolence?" The bad thing Rosetta had the feeling she really would make her face the Guards. "Well i was...um. you see...†Rosetta stepped closer and saw the Aes Sedai's eyes widen in surprise.

"Well i was...um. you see...†It took all the effort Lavinya possessed to refrain from binding the insolent girl with air. She dared step closer? Had she no idea who or what it was she was dealing with? Lavinya's eyes were wide, and her jaw tensed, biting back a harsh remark. Onlookers in the street were jabberring amongst themselves, none of them so foolish as this chit as to try and stand down an Aes Sedai, particularly one with Lavinya's countenance.

Keeping her feet firmly planted, Lavinya stared back coldly, the look she used enough to cause any man with any sense to flinch, yet this young woman seemed altogether too bold, though not unaffected. "You are in the presence of an Aes Sedai child, I suggest you find some respect. I am not the only one in the tower who dislikes insolence." She lifted her chin ever so slightly, her fiery red curls cascading down her back in a haughty manner. Light, it had been so long since anyone had dared defy her so openly. Well, anyone beneath her, anyway.

"Now speak. Your business? Or do I need to have you escorted back out of the city?" Her voice was cold and stony, a raised brow the only indication of any emotion on her smooth face. Surely she had been more respectful of Aes Sedai when she first made her way to Tar Valon. Hadn't she? She didn't need to think back very far to remember herself as a somewhat fiesty novice, in search of power and prestige. Light, she still sought those things, though life at the tower had changed many things about her. She'd learnt to pick her battles, that was for sure. This girl before her would learn too.

Where had that thought come from? The girl would not learn the lessons she had unless she was discovered with the ability to channel. Lavinya found herself musing as to what kind of novice the girl would make as she waited impatiently for a response.

Rosetta looked at the Aes Sedai as if daring her to mess with her but on the inside she berating herself for her foolishness. Rosetta not being a person to step down tried to look at the "woman" like she was dirt.

In response to the look the Aes Sedai gave her a look that chilled her bones and made her quake inside but the only outward sign was the slight shifting of her feet. "You are in the presence of an Aes Sedai child, I suggest you find some respect. I am not the only one in the tower who dislikes insolence." When she said that Rage boiled inside her but she was not so stupid as to strike an Aes Sedai instead she just lifted her chin ever so slightly but enough to be an insult.

Looking around her the crowd was even farther away then before not wanting to get caught up in Aes Sedai business. "Now speak. Your business? Or do I need to have you escorted back out of the city?" Rosetta at this point realized it was as good a time as any to ask for help finding her fathers killer. "I am looking for help finding who killed my father and I thought Aes Sedai could help" She did not seem to like that statement at all by the deadly look on her face none the less she started to reply

Lavinya seethed on the inside, yet begrudgingly respected the girl her pride. She was a fiery one, in colouring and temperament, by the looks. Much like Lavinya, really. Still, she was sadly mistaken if she believed Lavinya would yield an inch. Looking at her as though she was a noble? Ha! Lavinya could make queens tremble if she chose. This young wench had many a harsh lesson to learn.

"I am looking for help finding who killed my father and I thought Aes Sedai could help."Lavinya's features darkened for a moment. This...child showed such insolence, yet demanded help from an Aes Sedai? Certainly not. Though time training as a novice was bound to curb her appetite for rudeness. Why, she did not know, but Lavinya had a strong urge to see this girl in novice white. That was assuming she passed the testing. Only one way to find out, she supposed.

Her features slid into a wolfish smile. "You seek help, you say? Well of course, child, Aes Sedai are servants of all." Somehow the smile never reached her eyes. "Tell me, what is your name? And if you would come with me, I will show you where in the tower you can find answers." To my question of your ability. She added to herself.

"Come now." She turned on her heel abruptly, not waiting to see if Rosetta followed. She would. Though Lavinya had no intention of taking her to find answers. That was not an issue now, not in her mind. She would be tested, and initiated as a novice, of that she was certain. Looking briefly over her shoulder, she noticed Rosetta a step or two behind, no doubt curious about the apparant change in Lavinya. "Don't dawdle now girl, keep up." She called, turning back around and walking briskly, skirts in hand. Another new novice? Only time would tell.

Rosetta started to worry that the Aes Sedai was going to refuse to help before she finally smiled, a smile that would most likely scare someone as comfort them. "You seek help, you say? Well of course, child, Aes Sedai are servants of all." Rosetta relaxed a fraction. "Tell me, what is your name? And if you would come with me, I will show you where in the tower you can find answers."

"Come now." the Aes Sedai turned and walked away without so much of a look over her shoulder but then again she is who she is and expects to be obeyed. Lavinya led Rosetta through the crowd and turn around for a second to tell her not to dawdle. Afterwards she walked so fast she was required to pull up her skirts as Rosetta scurried after her. As they went on the tower got closer more demanding for attention until all you saw was a wall of white. As they approached the tower Lavinya swept into the door with Rosetta only a step behind anticipating the help Aes Sedai could give her.

Upon entering the tower her jaw dropped to the ground with the gleaming walls to the paintings on the wall it all said power. Going through the tower Rosetta didn’t really have time to look as Lavinya was moving so fast. All at once Lavinya stopped at a door all Rosetta caught was Mistress of Novices before she was swept in side.

Countless times Faerzyne Grigory had glanced at the sun already, and before the day had ended, countless more times would be added to that. She sighed softly, and inclined her head a little, causing the little bells attached to her braids to tingle softly. Yet even the bells sounded a bit weary, as if they too suffered from a lack of sleep. The Mistress of Novices stifled a yawn, and turned her attention on the book of Novices again. Everything was recorded in there, after all. Everything that mattered at least. Last night another Accepted had ventured into the rings, and passed through them free of everything she had been before she became who she was now. In her fine handwriting Faerzyne made a note of the raising in the book of Novices. Today the girl would choose her Ajah, and her fate would become truly entwined with that of the Tower. Her choice was no secret to Faerzyne, the way very little that happened among the novices and accepted of the White Tower was a secret to her.

She closed the big book after she was done. The book looked a little old, but the preservation wards that were set on it worked well. It seemed as though it would never get full. Faerzyne had once paged through it, and found her own name, as well as that of the Mistress of Novices before her. It was interesting to learn how long some of her sisters had been here, and how long they had taken to get themselves raised. Wistfully Faerzyne peered at the sun again, only to find that it hadn’t moved a bit. The day was still young, and she would be tired and aching by the time it was done. Not that the work of the Mistress of Novices ever truly ended. There were wards on the door to the office that told her people were waiting in front of it. The wards would wake her, even if someone tried to sneak in when the night was at it’s darkest.

Just as she thought on her wards, a tingling sensation covered her skin as someone approached the door. She had only a moments notice before a knock sounded loudly and quickly, and the door was thrust open before she could respond. She looked sharply to see who had entered so, to find Lavinya sedai leading a younger woman. She lifted her chin, the bells in her braids tinkling in what could almost be warning. "Lavinya Sedai. What brings you to my office in such a...rushed manner?" Her tone was clear and her hazel eyes sharp as she took in the younger Gray sister.

Her eyes flicked over to the woman with her, taking in her wide eyes and bright red hair. A new initiate, perhaps? With stony features she waited.

Lavinya swept determinedly into Faerzyne's office, Rosetta in tow. "Lavinya Sedai. What brings you to my office in such a...rushed manner?" Lavinya did not miss the icy tone, belatedly regretting the way she had entered without first waiting for permission. Inclining her head as humbly as she could muster, she addressed her fellow Gray Sister.

"Pardon my haste, Faerzyne Sedai, but I did not want to delay. I encountered this girl, Rosetta, in Tar Valon, and brought her to you. She requested help of Aes Sedai. I thought it prudent to test her." She smoothed her skirts, withouth looking at Rosetta, and took one of the seats offered her by Faerzyne, Rosetta taking the other.

Lavinya knew what Faerzyne was doing, as she pulled a smoky coloured gem from her drawer, but doubted Rosetta had any clue what was happening. Well, she would find out soon enough. Either she could channel, and she would be enrolled as a novice, or she couldn't, and Lavinya would dump her along with the other petitioners, and head back to her shopping.

Rosetta was revolted at the idea of being tested for the ability to channel especilly since Lavinya said she was going to help. Then again maybe being Aes Sedai would help? "I Will not be tested i came here for help not a life of slavery!!!!" Rosetta started to leave but was unable to move for the glare that was placed on her from both sides held her to her chair like glue.

OCC thx for all your help couldnt have done it without you :D :D

OOC: My pleasure deary

"I Will not be tested i came here for help not a life of slavery!!!!" Faerzyne merely lifted a brow, unfazed. Whatever Lavinya Sedai had told this girl, she was here now and she would be tested.

Silently she retrieved the clear gray gem from her drawer, walking around the desk to kneel beside Rosetta. "I assure you testing is harmless enough child. You may yet fail, so calm yourself." Faerzyne's voice was soft yet firm. There was no nonsense brooked in this office.

"Now, clear your mind of everything, and focus on the stone. There is nothing else but the stone." The girl still looked hesitant, and Faerzyne nodded encouragingly, as Rosetta finally obeyed. Time passed, and Faerzyne worried that her arm would cramp up before the girl showed any sign of potential. Just as she thought there would be nothing, s light flickered within the stone. Faerzyne smiled, and rose again. As she walked back to her side of the desk, she imagined she felt the surprise in the eyes of the girl as they settled on her back.

"Congratulations child. You can channel."

Rosetta looked at the new woman, obviously someone important to make Lavinya apologies, like she was crazy. When she finished rummaging in her desk she brought out a small red gem and knelt beside Rosetta.

"I assure you testing is harmless enough child. You may yet fail, so calm yourself." Rosetta highly doubted that and looked at the stone like it was poison. "Now, clear your mind of everything, and focus on the stone. There is nothing else but the stone." I will not Rosetta thought.

But in the end Rosetta found herself focusing on the stone (Aes Sedai have a way with people). After what seemed like an hour Rosetta was confident that she couldn’t channel when the "important" lady stood up and smiled. "Congratulations child. You can channel."

Rosetta froze "I..I. can channel?" "What makes you so sure". a million questions were running through her head like how will i live?, what do i tell my family? (They are from Tear after all), What will happen to me? The questions came to a halt and she went blank. A few minutes later she opened her eyes on the floor of the woman’s office. "What happened?"

OOC. :D :D more fun keep it coming

  • 3 weeks later...

Lavinya allowed herself to feel a glimmer of satisfaction when the smoky gem briefly flickered with light. So her instinct had proved accurate on this occassion. Very satisfying indeed.

Rosetta seemed shocked out of her wits, as she managed a few incoherent questions before turning pale, her eyelids flickering as suddenly she slumped, falling from her chair to the floor.

With a start, Lavinya sprang to the girl's side, a quick delving weave revealling nothing more than a slight sniffle. The girl had fainted? Her lips twisted with wry amusment, as she gently shook Rosetta, Faerzyne silently looking down at where she knelt.

It only took a moment for Rosetta to regain consciousness, her eyelashes fluttering as she opened her eyes. "What happened?" Lavinya helped the girl to her feet, seeing her back into her chair before responding. "It appears you found your gift quite overwhelming, and fainted." replied Lavinya, struggling to control the amusement that threatened to surge fourth and crack the facade of Aes Sedai serenity she held so close.

During this time, Faerzyne had moved back around her desk, and now lowered her head, clearly intent on her work once more. "I trust you will mentor this girl, Lavinya Sedai, and inform her of what she needs to know." Lavinya nodded, fetching two novice dresses from the cupboard Faerzyne waved her to.

"Come now child, I will show you to your room." Lavinya addressed Rosetta and nodded her head respectfully to Faerzyne, before taking her leave, Rosetta hot on her heels.

Out in the hall, she handed the dresses to Rosetta. "This is what you will wear now. You are to keep them clean and mended at all times. Now, follow me, and I suggest you cease looking at me as though you would like to strike me. This is out of both our hands now." Lavinya merely raised a brow before leading her newest student along the twisting corridors of the tower, towards the novice apartments.

Rosetta was in a daze but when Lavinya got up Rosetta folowed close on her heels. Once outside Lavinya turned on her. "This is what you will wear now. You are to keep them clean and mended at all times. Now, follow me, and I suggest you cease looking at me as though you would like to strike me. This is out of both our hands now." Rosetta started to protest but the look the Aes Sedai gave her qwelled any notion of arguing she had ever had. As they walked through the halls Rosetta looked at the white walls and the lavish paintings and decided this would not be a bad place to live after all.

After a while Lavinya stopped in front of a door and said "This is your room for now you are by yorself but that will change in the future." Rosetta walked in and saw a small room with plain walls two beds and two desks. Yes this would do just fine.

Lavinya hesitated just inside the door as Rosetta took in her new surroundings. It seemed so long ago now, but Lavinya remembered being determined to go far, despite how daunted she had felt.

"Tomorrow we will begin your lessons in the One Power. You are to meet me in the South Garden after breakfast. I suggest you don't dally child, or you will also find yourself with a chore to accompany your lessons." She raised a brow, though her tone was stern. "Have another novice direct you. I will meet you tomorrow."

Gathering up her skirts, Lavinya whirled around in a blur of red satin, before halting once more. "Oh, and welcome to the White Tower, Rosetta." She smiled, though suspected Rosetta wasn't taken in by the gesture, if the expression on her face was anything to go by. With a final nod, Lavinya whisked herself out of the room. Perhaps she would still have time to make her purchases this afternoon. If not, she was likely to be very unimpressed at their lesson the next day.
