I think that Rand needs LTT for the last battle; many have mentioned the need to kill LTT, but it is clear that he is needed since there is no way for Rand to know the most effective/important weaves for the last battle w/o LTT in his head.

It doesn't say Rand needs to kill LTT, it says in order for Rand to live, he must die. I think this death is metaphorical in that Rand as an indivdual must die. Rand must merge with LTT: they must become one person.

Rand's body is deterating so he needs to die physically by doing this merging with mordin which in kills ltt in the process since ltt is in the mind of rand which will die along with the body.
