Lesson in manners? (attn: Aran)

Sasha was busy working on her fitness. There was alot to do before she would be allowed to eat breakfast. But it was all in a day's work she kept telling herself. Though it never seemed like it would end.

Sasha wasn't doubting her desire to be here, but she was wondering when the work would lessen. Her arms and her legs ached from the running and lifting. Even her own body weight was proving to be a difficult thing to carry for many of her tasks. It was hardly past the first bell and Sasha was already yearning her bed. But she only had one more lap to do before she could rest and take a break for breakfast. One more lap was what she kept telling herself. Sasha pushed herself to the edge of her limits and finished on a personal best. Time wasn't easily kept alone, but she thought it was better than before.

The meal hall was thankfully only a few yards away and it wouldn't be long to get in line, and under a roof. Food sounded good, but a glass of water sounded even better. Maybe with a little lemon in it.

Sasha stood in line in the meal hall waiting patiently for her turn at the delectables...

There was nothing good to be said for guard duty. Well, there was if one could sneak up a keg, or if he managed to gamble away some of his future hours on the wall, but otherwise Aran felt that there was nothing redeemable about guard duty. Or rather, him having to walk the wall, it was a fine idea for some other people to have to do so though. After all, he had once had a very different profession. He'd trained for years how to slip by guards, and while that made him an eminently well trained guard because he knew what to look for, it didn't enthuse him about it either.

One of the things that those looking to sneak past guards looked for was routine. Not only for ways to sneak by guards, but also because routine made guards less attentive. To solve that, Aran tried different ways to change things up, they were meant to be somewhat irregular to begin with when it came to their patrols, but in an effort to distract himself he went further, as did those who commonly went on duty with him. It only went so far, but it was better than nothing after all.

That said, by the time a graveyard shift was done, Aran was not only tired but hungry. Going to his room first to shuck off his uniform as soon as he could, he was wearing comfortable black breeches and a white tunic along with his boots. Similar to the trainee uniform, most people knew Aran so weren't about to make a mistake. It was simple, neat, and Aran felt comfortable in it and comfortable was what he needed.

Entering the mess hall, Aran saw a few trainees lined up. There was little chance that he was going to be waiting for them. His stomach needed food and he needed it now, besides which they were trainees. So, wandering over and grinning at a few of them as he walked past, he quite deliberately stepped infront of the first trainee. It wasn't long before he got a tap on his shoulder, to which he turned about and replied with. "What?"

"There's a line."

"I'm lined up." Turning away, Aran got another tap on his shoulder. Sighing, he turned about to the woman who had tapped him before.

"You're meant to go to the back."

"Why? The food is at the front."

"I was waiting here before you."

"I know." Aran turned away again. As he did so, he couldn't help but think that the girl reminded him of someone. In fact, he was almost certain he'd seen her before, but after a graveyard shift he was somewhat frazzled. It'd come to him at some point.

Sasha wasn't very good at being pushed around and her new found abilities and strengths gave her a bit of a cocky attitude, she felt she could do almost anything now, but her her noble birth had not been broken yet. Who did this man think he was? You can't just butt in front of the line, Sasha didn't care who you were or who you thought you were.

He was bigger than she was but it mattered little as her temper flaired. Sasha pushed the man out of the way. He however did not move. "Get out of my way. I was here first." And Sasha did the unthinkable even for her noble birth, she punched the man in the side. Teach him to bardge in front of me.

"Ow!"

Rubbing his side, Aran turned back to the girl who had a satisfied smirk on her face. Well, wasn't she just enjoying herself? He was here to have breakfast and she thought it would be amusing to punch him while her back was turned? Well, that changed things didn't it? Breakfast he would get to soon enough, but if he let trainees punch him without any sort of consequences then that would end badly for him.

Smiling, he offered his free hand while the other one massaged his side. "We seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot, howabout we start again? My name is Nara, and you are?" There it was, she went for the hand and that was all he needed. Catching her name as she took his hand in her own, he quickly twisted her arm behind her back and forced her to step out of the line with him. "Go on everyone, move up, Sasha is right that I pushed in. Me and her are going to go up the back so you can go have breakfast more quickly. Go on."

Using the grip to push her forward, they made their way to the back of the line where he retained his hold. He wasn't going to let her go just yet, she still reminded him of someone. Maybe it was the bearing, but he couldn't say he was sure about that. "So, Sasha, tell me a bit about yourself since we're waiting in line together. Seeing as I will be waiting for my food a bit longer I would like to be entertained. While you're at it, explain to me why you thought it would be clever to punch me while I wasn't looking?"

Sasha told Aran what he wanted to know. "My name is Sasha Daleb, I've come from Tarabon to follow in my cousin's footsteps." She glared at him. "I bet you respect her. She's done alot around here and I'm sure you know her. Lyv Tylin. She use to be Mistress of Trainees." Sasha sounded proud of her cousin and it showed in her voice and her attitude, she puffed up with ego as if it were her own reputation.

"Let me go, I can hold a conversation with out being manhandled. Unless you'd like me to report you to the Mistress of Trainees too."

OOC: Not as good as the first but oh well.

"You're Lyv Tylin's cousin?" Laughing, Aran let Sasha go as he looked her over again. The similarities were there alright, physically at least. Sure, Lyv could be a little proud of herself but that was to be expected with her heritage. That meant this one was of a similar background, Aran had to wonder whether Lyv was so stuck up though. This girl was so proud that if she stuck her chest out any further with pride she'd take someone's eye out.

She wasn't looking too pleased about his laughter either. Before she could demand what was so funny, Aran decided to cut in. "I can see the resemblance now. Oh, Lyv's not too bad, she certainly wouldn't have minded if I'd cut infront of her. Then again, she's not a trainee so I wouldn't have, you on the otherhand are so you can just put up with it. And no, don't bother looking at me like that. And stop sticking your chest out, I noticed you had one before."

Pointing out the obvious seemed to have a certain effect with some women, but Aran ploughed on before she could start. "I know your cousin quite well, she is a good friend of mine. I'm Aran, Tower Guard Aran." Grinning at her, he added. "And I don't care if the Master at Arms is your grandfather, you can wait till I've gotten something."

Sasha glared at the man. Aran was a Tower guard but he had no right to hop in front of her. But she smiled wryly as he had moved tot he back of the line. Granted he had taken her with him but it was a small price to pay for making him wait his turn.

Sasha turned her smile sweetly at him. "You might have made me wait a little longer to get my food, but you my dear kind sir have now just pushed yourself to the back of the line as well. So much for cutting in line." Sasha was proud of herself. She didn't care who he thought he was, but she was definately not going to let him have the best of this affair. He had no right to be an arragonant pig of a man.

Aran laughed, so thats why she was so pleased with herself. She had taught him a lesson then? A few things to do came to mind, though he tempered them with possible reactions on Lyv's part. He didn't know how close Lyv was to her, so stringing Sasha up by her ankles was probably something he'd have to wait on. But there were other things that could be done, definitely something to be kept in mind. In the meanwhile he had a smirk to wipe off her face.

"If you'd taken any notice, you'll see that no one joined the line since I came in, so I'm still a place ahead." Grinning, he poked her in the side. "And now I have your marvellous company, don't I princess? You're one of those noble types, right? Spend most of your days on your arse as you waited to be married off, then it would've been spent either on your back or in a court no? Do you even know how to use a blade or do you just use Lyv's name to get by?"

Sasha glared at him. How dare he...

Then a thought dawned on her, if she played like she was angry he would just keep on doing what he was doing. If she didn't care maybe he would go away. So Sasha resigned herself to taking his words in stride, not an easy fate for her, but she was going to try.

"I'm learning the sword sir. I will be as good or better as Lyv. I don't need her name to show my worth." Did she really? She only hoped she would be convincing enough. "It is far better to get beaten repeatedly then spend my life on my back as you put it. The Courts are boring. Same thing, Different places."

Oh, she had come so close to unleashing her anger! He'd needled her all too well and how the infuriated Sasha had nearly plunged after it! But no, she had a modicum of self control, she'd managed to rein herself in. Whether it was because she felt herself above such things or whether she had realised what he was doing, Aran couldn't be entirely sure. Indeed, it could be both for all he knew, but she was playing coy nevertheless. How polite she had become now that she had pulled back, courteous even. So unlike the Sasha he had glimpsed beforehand, so unlike the Sasha who had seen fit to punch him in the back.

Grinning at her all too knowingly, he couldn't help but say something. "Yes, I have to agree, the courts are rather boring no matter which you go to. Nobles have about as much substance as my conscience. Too bad though, I could definitely picture you with a few kids running about. Maybe ten, imagine your hips after that. Ouch. Ah, here's breakfast."

Helping himself to a place, it accumulated a few odds and ends from toast to bacon though Sasha had managed to make her way through the line much more quickly than himself. No doubt in order to try and slip away and get clear of his attention. There was little chance of that, not after having to wait for breakfast longer because of her. Well, that and she'd become his new piece of entertainment for the moment. Strange that she had picked a table by herself but it suited him well enough.

Wandering over, he sat his tray down before her with a grin. "We meet again!" Sitting on the opposite side of the bench, he was glad that they were large enough that she wouldn't be able to kick him under the table. Something he'd had cause to be happy about on a few occasions with different women. Helping himself to a piece of toast as she looked at him, he swallowed it down quickly enough before speaking.

"What? Are you dazzled by my incredibly good looks? My charm? I would be too, don't worry you're not the only one. So, what does Lyv have you doing anyway? Still learning how to run or can you actually swing a lathe about?"

Sasha didn't bother responding he was trying to aggitate her. And she wanted no part in this. She tried to eat her food slowly at a normal pace, but she soon realized she was eating too quickly and her food was beginning to fight back.

A welling pain started in her chest as she eat too quickly. Sasha tried to push it away but she hadn't learned yet how to ignore the pain. She hated feeling like this and it was time to leave anyway. A short trip to the infirmary for some releif might be in need, but she wouldn't tell Aran this.

"I take my leave of you now." Sasha got up with her half finished tray of food hoping that he would let her go.
