So i just started with the Malazans book by Steven Eriksson, and im on Toll the hounds ( book eight)

Could someone fill me in on the overlying and small plotlines that are relevant in this book? Cuz man there are a lot of them and i find myself just vaguely remembering some of these characters. For example what happended to apsalar?

What? Toll the Hounds deals with Darujhistan and Black Coral. You're dealing with the remaining Bridgeburners in their retirement after MoI (Picker, Blend, etc), also the Tiste Ande (Anomander Rake, etc). Cutter returns with his group who left the Seven Cities in Bonehunters. Krupe and the rest are still there doing their thing. Apsalar's not in the novel, the last you saw of her she was killing Pearl at the end of The Bonehunters and then she left. Paran's in the Seven Cities, the Bonehunters aren't in the novel. Karsa shows up along with Travaller. Loose ends from GotM and MoI are tied up. There's really a lot more then could possibly be written without just rereading the books, or glancing at them. You could try the Malazan Encycolpedia site, or even the Malazan forums.

Yeah, It really is lot. Thanks though. I would like to reread them, but i find Eriksens books to big and immensive to plow through in just one big reread. I've been gradually reading them, reading two or three then taking a break. But there's so many things now so its hard to keep track on them all ::)

To be fair, I read the entire series three times now and finally have a good idea of what's going on. Still feel like I missed a lot. Now that the series is complete I should do another reread to grasp it all 100%. Still, the vague unexplained world with it's crazy rules is what I love about the series.

There's a Malazan site just like this one.

And their forums are broken up by each book so no matter where you are in the series you can go to that book and.not get spoilers.

It pretty much answered the same questions for me.
