Hi - new to Dragonmount

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site but I have been reading WOT since 2005 and have read every book except the prequel. Is it worthwhile to read it? My main interest is to find out more about what people think of the various characters and their purpose in the storylines. Often I thought Jordon just threw a character in here and there to fill space and add depth to a story, but yet never fully intended for that character to take on any meaningful role. I'd like to also know more about the "Age of Legends" and the future world after the Lasst Battle.

new spring is a nice, light read, and it adds some good background to the story.

 

i tend to feel the same way about a lot of the extraneous characters. it almost seems like an in-joke every time another new aes sedai we'll never hear from again, or won't hear from again for so long we'll have forgotten who she was, is introduced.

 

others disagree, i'm very sure.

Welcome Rockshaper! You came to one of the best Wheel of Time fansites on the 'net to discuss the series, good choice! I know I don't remember more than probably 1/4th, if that, of the characters in the Wheel of Time so I definitely understand where you are coming from. I enjoyed New Spring since it gave some of the background that I found really enjoyable and really expanded my understanding of what goes on at the White Tower and how the search for the Dragon Reborn all began. It's nothing you need to enjoy the rest of the series but since I voraciously wanted to read anything Wheel of Time related (I even have the Big White Book) I read it and it didn't disappoint me! New spring is good especially if you don't like Moraine. Then while reading it you could understand why Moraine is doing all that. It really is a worthwhile read.
