Think GI Jane except with the Coast Guard. This is what the movie struck me as. I am not a huge Costner fan, and will even admit to liking (and owning) The Postman (ride postman... ride!), but Costner has not had much luck with movies since Dances with Wolves and Robin Hood. I was pleasantly suprised walking out of the movie and found myself enjoying the movie. Kutcher even made me like his character early on in the movie. I found myself laughing at the jokes and the characters but the movie tried too hard to pull at the heart strings. I think they could have cut off the last 20 minutes of the movie and I would have enjoyed the closure much better. All in all, a good movie worth seeing as there is nothing else out (except The Departed).

Next week is The Prestige which I am totally excited about but may not get to see as I am on the road for a job interview.

This thread caught my eye. I just saw The Guardian a couple of days ago. I actually really liked the movie, and I didn't expect to. Or rather... I expected to LIKE it, just not to be particularly impressed, as the combination of Ashton Kutcher + Kevin Costner just signaled "Chick Flick" to me, and while I love chick flicks... you know what I mean.

Back story aside, I was pretty impressed. It's just a good movie. Very typical predictable plot-line... A bit like Armegeddon in my opinion, just without space shuttles.

I think it just stuck with me because I'm currently preparing to enter the military, though I'm doing the Army National Guard. Hence, all the training scenes and such were fascinating in my world.

All in all, good movie. Go see it if you haven't. *thumbs up*

I really enjoyed it because once upon a time in my life, I was very close to going into the Coast Guard. So much so that I was stepping onto the bus for basic training. So it gave me an idea of what I might have been getting into.

I agree, not the best movie I have seen this year but certainly top 10 (maybe number 10 at that).
