Yes, I liked the Desmond episode too. Do you think Charlie really will die? How long will it take before he does?

I don't know. I think they should leave it until the end of the series possibly with him being hurt in someway and the audience believing that he is dead until the next series or something like that.

 

It's quite interesting now because the programme has moved on from just questions about the Island itself to questions about fate, death and things, which really represents the broadening scope of things for the characters.

 

Though sadly, someone keeps forgetting to tell us what Dharma really is!

Well, check out Wikipedia for a definiton of Dharma. I think it would be highly unlikely that the Lost creators didn't pick this name for very specific reasons. How do you think this definition relates to the show?

Wow. I think the Concepts of Rights and Duties is interesting. If you think it about it, it seems that all the characters have some duty to others they have failed in some way or others have failed to them.

 

Hurley to himself through his mental illness.

Jack to his wife.

Locke to his Father

Kate to her Mother and the Law

Desmond to Penny

Juliette to her sister (?)

Rousseau to Alex

Sawyer to the people he has conned

Claire to Aaron

Eko to his brother

 

Then ultimately all of them have a duty to the Island. *ponders*

and what about Hurley and his family? I know, I know the winning loto numbers were cursed, but there he was trying to do right by everyone, but failing miserably. Is it destiny for these characters that they can't escape? (even though Hurley tries he's destined to fail?) or is it a result of their choices (Kate choosing to continue disobeying the law).

It is interesting because there is quite a mixed message. At the same time we know that Kate, and Sawyer for example made their decisions and that they are responsible for their actions, but ultimately these actions lead them to the Island.

 

But "The Universe has a way of correcting" things so it is probably safe to say that is the LostUniverse, even if they had failed to make those decisions something similar would have happened to set them on their path to the Island. So, whatever happened Kate would have killed her step-father in some way because its a piece of her past that will come to play a specific function on Island.

Again the Island seems to be testing them to see if they are worthy. Take Ecko, he failed and the island took care of him.

 

It still feels like they are in limbo and being judged for their sins.

do you think that once they have paid their price they will join the Others or be allowed off the island? IE, Michael failed his son, but then did everything he could do do right by Walt, and they were able to leave the Losties...

Michael didn't leave. They will be back at the end of this season I think. Walt is important to this story somehow as he is the only person with powers... well other than Desmond... on the island.

I agree with Emperor. Michael will be back.

 

And the writers have said they are not in purgatory.

I do think they are being tested in some way or for some reason. I think that will be the final mystery though...

2. There is some strange twist to this show. Something otherworldy is happening. I keep hearing they are not in purgatory... so it makes me think that Desmond is dreaming all this up and is still in the bunker pressing the button. It is going to be something like that.

I think what's really interesting is the whole concept of 'worthiness.' You know, they're not getting a lot of time to prove their worth. And what about all the tailies that got killed so quickly after they crashed? What about their dharma? It's all very strange with the Initiative making their own rules and playing god all the time. Of all ppl, Eko should've been 'most worthy' - a clergyman and all that, right? And yet - he died. So, what constitutes 'worthiness' and how many licks does it take to get to the tootsie centre of a tootsie pop? The world may never know.

The plane people soul's were mostly good or bad and therefore did not need to survive the island and go through their tribulations. The one's that survive are in balance and need to work things out. Maybe the way off the island and back into the real world is to experience death on the island. Maybe Ecko paid the price required and the island rejected him like a virus.

And I would be disappointed if it were a dream. Juliet's back story makes me think this is real to some extent, but there is definately some sort of parallel universe/other side thing going on. Maybe that's the reason for the two Islands. Maybe one exists physically and the other is on the "other side". We shall have to see!

Does anyone else think that they maybe a time differnce going on. I wonder if the time on the Island is going a lot quicker than in real life. Juliette was supposed have 6 months on the job she was offered. She said she'd been on the Island for 3 years. So it may have been 3 years so far on the Island and her 6 months is not yet up in RL.

Oh yeah, the one where Penny is looking for Des. They had a commercial on or something that proved it was present day.

I remember that one...how long was Des missing for because I thought it'd been a while and I thought would she still be looking for him ags afer...I couldn't quite remember.

 

I was thinking time wise that we were where we are but for every week here is about 2,3,4 months on the Island...It would mean that if they got off hardly any time would have passed for thier family but a long time for them...does that make sense :?
