3. In the same species there is variation of traits between individuals.

 

4. Some adaptations are inherited by the offspring and are so passed on to the next generation

Similarities between artificial and natural selection:

 

both bring forward specific adaptation

both are possible because of inherited traits

both occur because of external pressures

both are based in changes of the gentic code of organims and the phenotypic expression of that code

organisms can survive and reproduce

can bring about speciation
