Me being a history major, always try to hook past events with RJ's writings. Such as:

 

-The Aiel swarming out of the waste attacking Cairhien. Sound like German Blitzkrieg to ya?

-Andor having bad relations with Cairhien, England and France?

-Seanchan invasion of Randland? Cortez and his total anniliation of the Aztecs?

 

If you gots some connections you see, or disagree with my suggestions, reply, i wanna see more ideas.

Another obvious parallel: The Amyrlin Seat and the Papacy

Depending on your definition of history; The Biblical Flood and the breaking of the world have some similarities.

I don't see the Seanchan and the invasion of the Aztecs... different scale, and different level. Puts me in mind of either the invasion of America or Australia though. The arrogant assumption that the land already belonged to the English, the insistance that locals conform to their rules and society, the abduction of women and children to re-educate (damane)

 

Frankly though, these sort of incidents are mirrored throughout the world. Emperor Asoka puts me in mind of the Seanchan also, as do the Chinese Imperialists. Alexander and Hawkwing. The Aiel and the Zulu/Native Americans/Indigenous Australians. The Sharans and the Chinese or Japanese.
