How did you come into contact with the Wheel of Time series?

I actually picked up a Russian translation of Shadow Rising that was split into three volumes. I only got first 2 so I was introduced to the series literally in the middle of nowhere. :) Was enough though and the hook is deep now.

What, in your opinion, sets the Wheel of Time apart? And/or, why are you such a (devoted) fan?

The complexity of the world yet simple way of writing (the style is not really "simple" but it appears to be). The world is realistic (very much so) and might be even our own reality (if history turned different and "magic/power" was introduced).

The quote “Jordan has come to dominate the world that Tolkien began to reveal.” is written on each of his Wheel of Time novels. 20 years after that phrase was first used, does that statement still hold true? Or is it less or even more so than before? And why?

It is more so true. I would say the world that Tolkien began to reveal Terry Brooks expanded (to some degree) and RJ can be a teacher to them both. RJ not only writes of "magic" and good vs. evil (like all other fantasy writers) but he has "conflicts inside conflicts inside conflicts." Besides attention to details of the world there is even greater detail to sociological and historical cycles. Overall, the world seems to be more interesting sometimes than our own reality and yet as complex and massive as our reality is.

Robert Jordan ensured I started reading again and often inspired me to think up stories of my own. How have the series and its writer put a mark on your life?

When life gets hard I think of WoT (no joke). Characters help me in everyday life you may say in one way or another. Also inspired me to try writing myself. But most importantly, RJ said once that people that write fantasy sometimes don't say they are fantasy writers because it's almost like a "ghetto tattoo" and than he said that he wears his tattoos proudly. This tells me to be who you are and have honor and pride in no matter what you do!

We all know the series will be finished by Brandon Sanderson. I will finally have time to read The Gathering Storm this summer and I'm eagerly anticipating. Are you excited for the story to come to an end? And do you feel the series will get a worthy closure?

Yes, I'm glad it's coming to the end becuase everything that has a beginning has an end (except for the wheel ;) ). And Brandon does very good job with the remaining books I think. It's great to see how he improved as a writer (I mean Way of Kings was awesome in almost every way).

Is there anything else you would like to share about the Wheel of Time or Robert Jordan?

WoT is the great series and though I never met RJ and was a later follower I believe that RJ was even greater man. Someday people will refer to him as one of the great classics.
