The time has come to cast your vote, and because DM is being stupid I have to divide these posts into categories. This is the post for the FANTASY/SCI-FI votes.

You have until August 31st to do your voting, at which point I will do the final count and announce the list.

If you nominated a book it would be great if you could tell us a little about what the book is about, that way there is a bigger chance someone will actually want to read it.

Now go vote!

A Game of Thrones is the first novel of what in undoubtly one of the best fantasty series around today: A Song of Ice and Fire. The book is incredibly well written, complex, deep and mature. In my opinion Martin far outstrips Jordan in many areas, his writing style being far more sophisticated and entertaining. Plus, one event takes place during this book and if it doesn't leave you hankering for more, they you obviously need to start some medication!

As for the plot, the story is particularly concerned with the Seven Noble families within the Seven Kingdoms and in particular the Starks. Eddard Stark rules the North and his past comes back to haunt him when his friend, King Robert, who conquered the throne some 14 years before, asks him to become Hand of the King. It follows the story from this point and the events that take place are both exciting and exhilarating.

This is definately a fantastic example of a modern fantasy novel and for this reason, should be picked as our Fantasy choice this month.

Gibbons Decline and Fall is a tongue in cheek reference to the book, The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire by Gibbons. It's a book set in a near future America where a brutal patriarchy is taking over the world and forcing the oppression of females. Riveting.
