Back in 1962, Senator Gaylord Nelson, Founder of Earth Day, decided the status of our earth, with it's rivers, oceans, forests, deserts, wildlife and everything else in it, needed to be recognized. So many of our natural resources slowly dwindling away and no one was aware, much less interested, in it's well fair. Mr. Nelson brought this to the attention of President Kennedy and the President went on tour to promote Earth Day.

While not much publicity happened after the tour, six years later a major revolution happened in the college campus's across the nation. On April 22nd, 1969 the first Earth Day celebration happened with overwhelming results.

Earth Day worked because of the spontaneous response at the grassroots level. We had neither the time nor resources to organize 20 million demonstrators and the thousands of schools and local communities that participated. That was the remarkable thing about Earth Day. It organized itself.

So in celebration of Earth Day, go plant a tree, or a bush, or pick up that piece of trash you would normally walk past.

Does anyone get involved with a community event for Earth Day?

What are your thoughts on Earth Day?
