Incomplete Characters

So am I the only person who feels like Perrin is an incomplete character. I think it is mostly from the early books. When he works so hard to repress his Wolfbrother urges, he pushes the Hardness that Mat and Rand have under the rug. So really it's like Faile and Perrin together are a complete character but not separately. Rand also shows this after LoC, he contains all the hardness, and Min all of the humanity. Any other characters you feel are incomplete.

I understand what you mean with Perrin.

Whenever I read Eye of the World, I look at Rand Mat and Perrin as three boys about to set out on the journey of all journies and find out their true potential. Rand starts out well, he shows signs of a problem solver early, and he is determined and decisive. Mat, the trickster, continues to think of himself yet be roped into helping others in order to not feel guilty, this continues and his quickness of mind benefits him all the way through his development both as a General and as guardian angel of Nynaeve and Elayne. Perrin is overwhelmed by his Wolfbrotherness in the beginning and I LOVE it. I think his animal rage was great, his guilt over killing the Whitecloaks was alright, his mental struglle with the hammer and the axe was a brilliant idea.

Perrins development is almost completely centered around Faile. I dont like it; watching someone save their wife is fun, unless it becomes obsessive, hollow and slowpaced compared to the other two people who are supposed to be important. The obsessive part could have been brilliant, but it just wasnt. The hammer vs axe sideline should have had a lot more to it that it did.

He had tons of potential, but lives up to none of it in my opinion. He can be redeemed though, unlike Demandred who I am just sick of waiting for.

I think the only book Perrin lived up to his potential was TSR. When he was driven to save his home and after he felt he had nothing to lose (since his family was all killed) he was an excellent character. He still has that potanial, but he has to be motivated by somthing drastic...like Faile dying, I can't stand her.
