Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel Series?

I read the first 3 books in this series some years ago, and thought the first one was quite well done, but 2 & 3 became progressively weaker. If you've read any of the books in this series, what did you think of them?

 

And if you've read any beyond the first 3, how has the series progressed, IYO?

The protagonist is a raging Mary Sue who solves every conflict by being so irresistibly beautiful all the other characters fall in worship at her feet.

 

And I still loved the first trilogy. Jacqueline Carey is like ... some kind of sweet, sweet addictive thing.

I saw that GRRM recommended her other series and it sounds good because it supposedly focuses on the bad guys.

It took me a while to get into the first book, and to get to grips with it, but after I did, I found it a thoroughly good read. Some of the passages did shock me a bit (there was one passage in the first book that took me totally surprise I had to re-read it several times to make sure my first impression was correct), but overall, a well weaved story.
