Elaida's Foretelling

Hi all

Forgive me if this topic has been discussed before, but I am just re-reading WoT and am now at The Shadow Rising when something just occurred to me.

Elaida's foretelling was that "the Royal Line of Andor would be the key to defeating the Dark One in the Last Battle". I initially always thought this to mean that Elayne would play some significant part in Last Battle, however, I think that I see a new light in the matter.

"The Royal Line of Andor" is Rand himself. Again forgive me if this has been discussed before but Rand's mother was Tigraine, daughter-heir of Andor round about the time that Elaida had her foretelling.

Am I right in this?

hmm. i always assumed it was elayne as well. but im thinking now about galad and gawyn. galad for sure will play a pivitol role being in charge of the whitecloaks. i lost track of gawyn though. rand could well be part of the prophecy i suppose, but to my mind 'Royal' line means those that are directly linked to the king/queen.

I've always believed it was Rand. Many times in the series we see characters acting on bad, incomplete, or misinterpreted information. So Elayne becomes a red herring for Elaida. That is still what I believe. Although it is so broad that it could be Elayne, Gawyn, Galad, Morgase, or the unborn kids. You could probably find a way to say it could be Slayer if you really want to.

Matrulz: Gawyn is in charge of the Younglings, warder trainees, if I remember correctly.

MatsLuck: Now that you bring Slayer into it...is the general consensus that the most probably person who could be Slayer is Luc? That would make the Royal Line thing possible. However, I always thought that Slayer was Isam (Lan's brother).

In essence, "Royal Line" could even be just because they ALL play a part. You are right, the foretelling is very broad.

Slayer is both Luc Mantear, Rand's uncle, and Isam Mandragoran, Lan's cousin.

That the Foretelling refers to Rand is a common theory. At the time the Foretelling was made, it might be that House Mantear still had the throne, and therefore it is their line - Rand - that is the key. Elaida attached herself to Morgase as soon as it became apparent the latter was going to win.

My thought is that a line is a series of points, and if you concider it everyone in that line has played a key role in preparing for Tarmon Gai'don--Rand, Elayne, Gawyn, Galad, Morgase--even Luc.
