Punishment Time for Burgandy (open for spectating)

Burgandy sat in the cell the Red Arms had stuck him in the night before staring off at nothing. He didn’t know what was coming, or how long he’d be in here for. He did have a window, and the guards had brought him breakfast in the morning, disgusting as that was; cold porridge did not make for a good breakfast.

Thankfully though, Burgandy did not need to wait much longer before a Red Arm came to his cell and unlocked it, quickly stepping inside to get out of the way of someone of rank who was entering his cell. Burgandy stood up and stood at attention. He got himself in this mess; Light help him if he wasn’t going to face the music with as much dignity as he could muster.

"What do you mean no visitors?" cried Tris as she squirmed free of her escort's hold and eased nearer under the bemused nebs of the red guards. It took her a while to find this place, although the office was clearly not where she planned to end up; she took even longer to creep like a cat past the clerk by the staircase until he announced that the little rascal they had been warned about had arrived. "I'm his only granddaughter, you know."

"We know the prisoner hasn't got any" the taller guard answered calmly "candy?"

"Oh yes please" she said while watching the sweets jar greedily. He shook some out on his palm and said, "as for the prisoner you'll see him in the morning at the commons, you have my word."

Feeling more at ease with a lolly in her hand she turned as though in leaving, then added "He's been injured-"

"And the medics are taking care of that. He'll be in isolation for the night, but fed and treated fairly, mind." Dismissed the tall guard while the other man watched and listened intently. But the tall one was the speaker "It's late and I've work to do. Somebody will come and take you back shortly."

She tossed and turned all night and woke from a broken dream that left her more drained than replenished. Still sleepy she heard the bell and rose, running to the heart of the citidel, the general commons where the tall guard said Gramps would be.

OOC: I hadn't planned on this at first, but it came to me that there would be a realistic consequence for Jehryn taking charge the way he did.  This is it.

"...and that's all there was to it," Jehryn finished, finally looking up and across the desk.  Commander Alliatar was not an imposing figure; her features would not have looked amiss on a farm wife.  But her overall bearing was... impressive.  As he watched, the woman rubbed at her temples with one hand.  Blood and bloody ashes, she is not happy about something.

"Corporal do'Halcaran, I wish that this was all there was to it."  Again, the commander's eyes found his.  The room suddenly seemed a bit small.  "On top of having one man in the cells for seriously injuring a soldier in a bar fight, nearly crippling him for life, we have you."

Jehryn gaped.  "Me, ma'am?"

"Yes.  You."  The commander lifted a few pages from her desk.  "I have here seven or eight charges of insubordination against you, corporal.  All of them say that you took charge, ordering men who, in some cases, outranked you."  A small smile touched her lips, but disappeared as quickly as it had arrived.  "An admirable trait, maybe, but people of rank don't like being ordered by underlings.  A full half of the complaints request that you share Private di Tigana's punishment, whatever it turns out to be."  The commander sighed.  "And I'm probably going to grant the request.  You did technically step beyond your reach, and though your... condition... doesn't allow me to set you to manual labor or the like without possibly killing you, there are alternatives to that."

Jehryn sat woodenly.  He had stepped forward, stopped a fight, diagnosed a patient, and cured him- for all intents and purposes- only to be rewarded like this?  It was embarrassing, to say the least.  But you don't have a choice, do you?  "Of course, I will submit to whatever judgment you order, but I do feel that I have the right do so under protest."

"'Under protest?'  Where do you think you are?"  The commander almost seemed amused.  "I trust that you do not need to be led to the cells in chains?"  The cells?  "Yours won't be a public punishment, I can assure you, but I will think of something.  Enjoy your stay; it won't be a long one."  Bloody woman.
