Hey!  My name's Chris, but you can call me Buraun.

Info:

  • I'm a freshman majoring in Asian Studies, with a focus on Japanese.
  • My hobbies(starting with the oldest) are video games (role-playing and turn-based strategy, mostly), reading (fantasy, science fiction, and historical), and writing (only fantasy, so far).  Also, I've just started learning the guitar (a year late--I've owned one for three years).
  • I first read The Eye of the World...sometime in middle school.  Found it in the school library, thought it looked interesting, read the Prologue, and found it awesome.  Made it to book five, I think, before life intervened in various ways and I started losing most of my free time.

A few months ago, I heard that Harriet had picked some guy named Brandon Sanderson to write the last of the books.  While I hadn't touched WoT in years, I'd been keeping tabs since I heard of RJ's death, and decided I'd give Sanderson a read.

Loved it.  Elantris was amazing, and I read the first two Mistborn books and loved them as well.  Eventually, I remembered why I'd read them in the first place--"Oh yeah, the Wheel of Time!"--and decided that it was probably a good idea to read through Jordan's books.  I started EotW last week, and found my way here today.

Well, with that pointless introduction out of the way--hi, can't wait to meet you all!

Nothing pointless about it; we like hearing a little about people as they wander in.  And let me be the first to say it - welcome to our madhouse, we've a little bit of something for everyone!  :)

Where would your interest lay, if I may ask?  We've a pretty healthy roleplay section down at the bottom (they stuck us there out of jealousy, of course), the Orgs (which are basically like social clubs with different focuses), and the discussion groups (where you can re-hash the re-hashings of who killed Asmodean!).  There's also a blag or three floating around, which are interesting enough.  ;)

From one Brit to another, welcome to DM!

If you ever get the chance to go to Japan, take it! I went about 5 years ago on a school exchange, and it was the best 3 weeks I ever spent abroad! So take it with two hands! ;)

The Band of the Red Hand has a few musicians if you want tips on the guitar. Personally, I tempted to start learning, but I have accountancy exams to get done first. Oh, and the Band of  the Red Hand ORG is the music and travel ORG - so pop by if you want to see my review on Japan and getting some music tips! ;)

But whatever you do at DM, have fun! :)

Aeaagh, Corki, I'm not from that Norfolk.  This one's in Virginia.  It has less Brits and more...uh, American naval stations.  They almost arrested me once.  ;D

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome.  I'm still re-reading EotW; just hit Taren Ferry.  Yay for whirlpools!
