Hi everybody

I love the WOT books and am currently reading through them all again.

I read all the books that had been written up to about 1999 and then stopped -as there were no more books yet written.. forgot about it the series for a while and the plots/story-so many! and then thought it best to wait for the series to be finished (well almost finished :'().... and read it all from the start again. Which is what I am doing now!

I just wanted to say that I came across the coldplay song 'viva la vida' and noticed it really goes well with the reading series! I love the energy of the song and the fantasy elemnts of the words - sword,shield,kings,keys etc etc etc

+ it is relevant to Mat as the lyrics say 2nd verse

'I used to roll the dice feel the fear in my enemies eyes...'

Rand/Lewis etc

'I used to rule the world, Seas would rise when I gave the word...'

Im not a huge fan of coldplay - never bought an album of theres but its worth a listen and a journey into the WOT, makes me feel more immeresed and excited before reading.

Bestest,

Toby

Hey Toby,

I'm a sucker for every type of music known to man, but there's one song that stood out among them all as the song that represents WoT (for me anyway);

(link)

The title alone has a very strong link to the Wheel of Time;

Running water is used in WoT as a metaphor for the True Source.

And Singing...well..we'll just have to wait for AMoL to come out, but that's going to have a role to play.

"The River Sings".. indeed.

It's sung in a self-invented language, which is a nice paralel to the universe that RJ created.

Both take an incredible amount of inspiration & fantasy.

I don't know what it is about that song, but it's so powerful, it gives my goosebumps when I'm reading WoT & hearing that song.

Then there's the clip someone made for it, with a wolf, a volcano, the spine of the world....

Just go watch & listen.. and think of Ingtar's Last Stand. Or Nynaeve rallying the Malkieri...  :)

The tranlation in english of it is below and it's incredible how much of it could have been written directly for the Wheel:

Our words go beyond the moon.

Our words go into the shadows.

The river sings the endlessness.

We write of our journey through night.

We write in our aloneness.

We want to know the shape of eternity.

Who knows the way it is?

Who knows what time will not tell us?

Mountains, solitude and the moon

until the journey's end?

The river holds the lost road of the sky;

the shape of eternity?

Who knows the way it is?

Who knows what time will not tell us?

Where is the beginning?

Where is the end?

Why did we fall into days?

Why are we calling out into the endlessness?

Who knows the way it is?

Who knows what time will not tell us?

Enjoy,

Mik

P.S: there's also a clip made up of LotR snippets and bits.

If you look beyond that, I think you'll love it.
