[move]I am totally hijacking this thread[/move]

:o

Yes...

I just recently read New Spring, and like all people do on their rereads, I noticed more and more connections and foreshadowing.

I will start with The Eye of the World. I will try and go slow and grab some lines or phrase that could possibly have a foreshadowing effect or meaning.

I am really bored right now too. So, yea....gonna do this.

Forgive me if any point has already been brought up. Also, discuss!

Note: There may be spoilers up to Book 11 here. I will try to leave out stuff from book 12.

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

...but she was going to be the best water-carrier ever.

I think this line is important because is shows Egwene's dedication. When she chooses to do something, she will try her hardest.

Egwene's POV:

Why did you have to keep doing something just because it had always been done that way?

I believe this shows how Egwene takes the customs and traditions of Aes Sedai when she is Amyrlin and throwing them out the window.

"But, she is still stubborn and acts just like them" you say.

For the most part, yes. And that is because she realizes the importance of some traditions.

She leaves a lot of things alone because they are harmless. But like with the Acceptance Age for new Novices, she changes what is beneficial to the White Tower.

Of course, she still has to learn about some things.

Egwene's POV:

She gave him a level look, but it didn't work as well as she hoped.

Now, this is mainly just a woman in general type of thing. But I kinda like to think that is also has to do with Aes Sedai composure and their calm exterior. Their mysterious looks and all. If you look at it, all woman do it, but Aes Sedai just have the added weight of being channelers to add to the mystique.

Egwene's POV:

Large stones stuck out of the ground here and there, a few almost as tall as a man...

I was just wondering if these are remnants of Manetheren? I never really paid attention to that before.

Egwene's POV:

Egwene did not understand why they were allowed to do that. The women's work was no cooler than the men's.

Now, I know this is just her being freaking 9 years old, and too innocent to realize the "decency" of it.

But, I think this shows a connection to when she is talking to Elayne while she is in the Waste, and Elayne is on the Sea Folk ship through T'A'R', one of them (I believe it is Egwene) says that each culture had different customs. She knows later on in her years that people have different ways, and she should not find them to be weird, only different.

Egwene's POV:

She eyed the nearest dog cautiously...seemed to know she was no danger to the sheep. Still, it was very big, almost waist high to a grown man...She edged away from the dog.

Now, again, this is probably because she is a little girl and 'dogs are scary', but she is hesitant around the sheep-dog that will not hurt her.

Maybe, because she has the spark, she just feels awkward around dogs?

(I know I am probably reaching at nothing there, but it could be...)

That is all for now.

;D

Ok..I got a few more...

Thanks randalthor....hmm, that sounds familiar. ;)

  • Just wanted to say that I will also post things that are interesting as well.

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

Perrin barely waited to sketch a polite bow to the grownups before turning to take his sister's hand.

I think this show his subservient nature, and much like Rand and Mat in the later years, would rather let others lead. They are fine with not being in command, but are forced to by their circumstances.

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

She would never be fool enough to make big eyes at a boy like some kind of woolhead.

HA! So she thought...lol...

Also, in the paragraph that quote is from, she states that Cilia Cole is 2 years older than her ("a couple of"). And that Perrin isn't "even a whole year older than Cilia".

So, Perrin is about 2 and 1/2 years older than her (and so is Rand, since they were born within a week of each other...I believe...will get to that later).

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

Egwene jumped and spun around so dast that she banged herself on the knee with her bucket...

She shifted her feet, wishing she could rub her knee...

She managed not to limp as she made her way back to the river.

I just wanted to post this, because it shows her strength. She does not want to show her pain or any weakness.

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV: {Loise, Egwene's sister is talking to Dag Coplin}

"Maybe my father can explain it to you better than I can."

Dag drew in his chin and grumbled something under his breath. He knew better than to try this with Egwene's father.

"I'm sure my mother could explain it so you'd understand," Loise said relentlessly.

Dag's cheek twitched, and he put on a sickly grin...He was not foolish enough to bring himself to the attention of the Women's Circle if he could help it.

I just wanted to write this one, because so many people wonder why Aes Sedai can't change their views on male channelers, even after Rand cleanses the source.

After the Breaking, men in general were feared and hated by many, just on the chance they might channel.

This gave women all over Randland more power than men in a general, broad sense. People fear the wrath of a woman more (more than you should in normal circumstances ;)) than men.

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

Loise plainly considered her company a nuisance, and Egwene was too proud to ask. She scowled. All of her sisters treated her like a baby.

So, this Chapter is all Egwene, while Chapter 1 is all Rand IIRC. I think this chapter gives us a lot of insight into her character.

This line, to me, shows why she acts the way she does when she is Amrylin. They all treat her like a little Accepted still, and barely acknowledge her. She doesn't like being treated like a baby!

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

The Wisdom sniffed in disbelief.

Of course I had to include the first sniff in the series!!!

lol..unless I missed one, I believe this is the first one, and deserves some recognition. ;D And she isn't alive to claim it. :(

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

She had apprenticed Nynaeve three years earlier after her then-apprentice died of some sickness even Mistress Barran could not cure. Nynaeve had been a recent orphan...

Elisa was eighteen...

but she was a year older than Nynaeve.

So, I know Nynaeve is about 26 now...but both quotes, that puts her at 17 during this chapter. She was apprenticed at 14!

Mistress Barran is worse than the WT! :P

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

Nynaeve began fiddling with her braid, tugging at it the way she did when she was nervous, or trying to bring attention to the fact that she was a grown woman, now.

See, it started out as something she did when she was nervous (ans still does sometimes no?), and it grew into when she was angry.

;D

This last one is for randalthor!

EARLIER

Ravens

Egwene's POV:

She did not like dogs very much, and they did not seem to care for her, either.

It is the channeling!  :o

i always knew dogs don't like woman channelers but i had no idea it worked both ways. or maybe it's just a reaction to being barked at all the time
