Physical Description: Ondina is a tall and slender woman at 6". Her long black hair is combed away from her face into a ponytail at the back of her head. Her eyes are green as the murky ocean waters. She has a large scar on her right leg, reaching from her hip to her knee.

Place of Birth/Raising: Sea Serpent

 

Character History: Ondina was the third daughter of five, born to a carpenter and his wife on the ship “Sea Serpentâ€. Her parents had hoped for a boy to continue the line of carpenters after their father grew too old and weak to keep the practice going. Instead they were blessed with just girls. Their parents loved them all very much, but the uncertainty of their future lay in the air. There was plenty to do on the ship for five quick girls and they did all that was asked of them. Alein the oldest of the five had shown a great interest for their fathers trade and was soon given the right to learn everything that she might need to know. Ondina was jealous. She did not want to be a carpenter, but the attention her sister got was not to her liking. Not to mention that Alein had a power over her sisters. Anything she asked, they would need to do.

 

 

Ondina had much larger plans for her life. She wanted someday to have her own ship. To be a Sails Mistress herself. She escaped more than often to a darker corner in the ship to spy on the Mistress and dream of a life away from her home. She found herself often dreaming by the waters of a future not cut out for her. Their mother had lost her dearest sister to the sea years before and had forbidden all the girls to enter the waters. “The ship is safe,†she used to say to them. Even though Ondina and her other sisters had spent their days by the Ocean, she had never ventured into it. They had all respected their mothers’ wishes by obeying her. She had no knowledge of how to swim, an oddity that was laughed at among her friends among the ship. She had begun to hate her parents for not letting her into the waters on a ship her own and towards the future she desired.

 

She was 17 when she decided to take fate into her own hands. When the “Sea Serpent†raised anchor from one of the Harbors they had anchored in, Ondina escaped the ship. She had hid behind the buildings in the harbor until the ship had passed the horizon. That is when she first started to doubt her great plan. She had not brought anything with her from the ship, fearing that she would be caught carrying her belongings. She asked around a few ships for any work. But it seemed that no-one needed another mouth to feed on board. The commotion in the Harbor grew greater and Ondina had to try to keep out of the way. A man carrying a large trunk rushed past her forcing Ondina to step backwards. She fell off the pier into the cold waters. The shock of the water and the knowledge of herself sinking paralyzed Ondina so she could not shout for help. She had scraped her leg during her fall and the water was gaining a red color. She splashed around in the water trying to keep her head afloat.

 

 

To her luck someone saw her sinking body and quickly help was on its way. She was brought on board another Athan’an’Miere ship and brought back to breathing air. Her leg was seriously injured, but the Sails Mistress had a good medic on board that could heal it to working again. Ondina realized that she could probably get a job on the ship if she found a good enough lie to keep her there. She told the woman that her parents had been killed. Her parents were not well known among the Sea Folk so no-one should doubt her story. For pity Ondina received a job cleaning the decks of her new ship. She did not care that she was doing exactly the same thing as on the “Sea Serpentâ€, this time she did it of her own free will, without her family breathing down her neck. Ondina started believing her own lie. Her family was dead. She had a new family now. One she had chosen willingly.
