Weapons Weapons and more Weapons (ATTN: Estel)

OOC: I forget which weapon you chose as your primary, please let me know and we'll move on from there.

Talyn waited for Estel on the side of the practice yards. He watched the light fools duel and wondered if any of them really knew they were on the losing side of the war. They called it a War with the Shadow, but from his eyes it was the War with the Light. It was odd how perspective changed things. Talyn tried to keep that in mind when he trained this pretty woman and others who were under his wing. It was all perspective and they knew no better.

Talyn was not sure which weapon he would be teaching Estel today, as he had not been there for her to choose, she had another mentor before. So in preparation Talyn brushed up on some of the techniques for some of the more common weapons in the yard. He hoped it was common and not something exotic that he'd look a fool doing movements with. He prayed to the Great Lord for help in looking professional. He was still new at this after all. Barely a Tower Guard.

Talyn watched as Estel approached in breaches and a shirt, her prior mentor must have drilled it into her. He had hoped to do some drilling of his own, but she had not come unprepared. He nodded to Estel. "Afternoon, Estel, are you ready to begin your training today?" He added a friendly smile.

ooc: sorry this took a while...finally getting back into the swing of things...

She prayed to the Creator that something would show on her face: anything. But nothing did. She was empty, devoid of emotion. Orion had taken her heart, the very thing of emotions, and broken it.

Instead of the thin dresses she usually wore, she wore tight breeches and a flowing white blouse, as Matalina had told her- but Mat wasn’t her mentor any longer. She had received a note a few days back telling her to meet a man named Talyn in the Yards as Mat would no longer be able to train her. If she had been herself, she would have felt curiosity, but nothing came. She was empty.

She approached the place she was supposed to train, and noticed a man standing there. Before her fight with Orion, she would not have failed to note his attractive features, but no longer. Even men went unnoticed now. She could feel Matthias’ constant worry for her threw the Bond, but there was a triumph there too.

"Afternoon, Estel, are you ready to begin your training today?"

She did not return him smile, she couldn’t. There was nothing for her to be happy about. Instead, she uncoiled her bullwhip from where it had been slung on her shoulder. No word from the young Sister, only motions. She wondered whether the man thought her rude, but her wondering lacked curiosity. She didn’t care.

Talyn nearly shuttered when Estel pulled out the whip. Forms was definately going to be difficult. He showed her the best he could how to weild the long strip of leather. He really wasn't 100% qualified for the task, but he would take it on anyway.

After Estel was shown the different manuevers, it was time to spar. It would be interesting, and as a trial Estel would get to learn how to use the whip in combat, and see what happened when her opponent got in too close for it.

Talyn began with Creeper Embraces the Oak. It was the same as the sword form with the quarterstaff and it was the same for Estel with her whip. The position of the whip and staff would be held at guard as they circled each other. This would truly be an interesting spar.

OOC: You don't have to use forms, but lets spar to complete your task.

ooc: sorry this took so long, but I wanted to do a good job of it and I didn’t have the time between my LoAs…

Crack!

A slightly altered form of Unfolding the Fan lashed out at Talyn. Stiff leather cord yearned for flesh. In her unfeeling state she felt no concern for the man should she actually manage to hit him. She danced out of the way of his blade as its blunt edges strove to make their mark. If she was to succeed in holding her own against the Tower Guard, she would have to keep out of range of his sword and distant enough that her whip was effective. If she was caught in too far the spar would be all over.

Lion on the Hill anticipated his next move. Misjudging, his thrust grazed her left arm as she stepped too slowly aside to avoid it. Ignoring the bruise that would come soon after, the Courtier Taps his Fan tried to injure his sword arm as her whip cracked the air above his shoulder. ’Blood and ashes. He’s good, this won’t last much longer.’ Yet the comment was accompanied by none of the usual frustration or admiration- just emptiness. ’Light, it would be good to feel something again.’

She was forced to retreat as he stepped up his attack and only her whip kept him at bay, and only barely. She danced between Parting the Silk, the Falcon Swoops, the Kingfisher Takes the Silverback and the Courtier Taps his Fan but it wasn’t enough. She took bruises to her arms and shoulders when she wasn’t quick enough or judged his attack wrong. Luck seemed on her side and she was still able to keep his blade from her vital organs but she couldn’t keep this up much longer. She panted hard and salty sweat stung her eyes yet her opponent hardly seemed winded.

OOC: Talyn uses a quarterstaff and I'm sure I said that in his post but no matter I'll go from here.

Talyn let the lass get in a few blows and landed a few himself. It was an interesting spar, he'd never sparred against a whip before, and as much as he should, he didn't wish to again, the lashing from one of those only brough out painful memories.

Memories of torture, not of himself but as a child watching from a corner he wasn't suppose to be in. Talyn suddered at the thought and a lash made it way to find his arm. Talyn shook him self out of his nightmares and returned back to his trainee.

The spar lasted several more moments before Talyn stopped the sesion. His nightmares were too great. "I'm sorry, this will be the end of today's session. You've a good handle on your weapon keep practicing and we'll move on when you've improved more."

OOC: I'll report this and send you a PM with your next and final requirement.
