So how many people have watched the new Doctor Who on Sci Fi? Thoughts? Complaints? Or are you just watching it because Battlestar Galatica is sleeping....

I did watch it on Sci-Fi. Although I have to admit that I had seen it last summer due to a friend in the UK sending me a DVD of Mpegs.

Oh, by the way. September 29th is the US debut of season 2. Sci-Fi will have a 2 hr special beginning at 9 Eastern.

I thought the 1st series was great. My favorite story was the two parter consisting of The Empty Child & The Doctor Dances. :D

I am married to a Doctor Who addict. I have seen every episode of the 9th Doctor series, and every episode of the 10th Doctor Series 1 except the finale because i kept forgetting to watch it. Chris (the husband) downloads the episodes as soon as they air in the UK and the plan is to watch them when they air in Canada as well.

The sad thing is, I'm really not a fan of the show, yet I'm getting to the point where I could almost do well in a Doctor Who trivia competition...

I probably would have done that (downloaded them after they aired) if I had a good enough internet connection and a better understanding of bittorrent.

But at least we won't have to wait a whole year here in the US for season 2. (at least you only had to wait a week in Canada for the first series after each episode).

BTW, new word on the Sci-Fi channel US series 2 debut on Sep 29 is that they will air the Christmas Special "The Christmas Invasion" and directly follow that with "New Earth" the season 2 opener.

My husband frequents Outpost Galifrey for all his Doctor Who news - I gather that site is considered semi-official.

I think he likes it there because the members are as fractious as DM's used to be back in the day.

BTW, I must add that David Tennant is much nicer to look at than Christopher Eckleston ... at least when he wears glasses. Rose is still annoying, though.

What's his username? Mine is the same here as there. I actually post more on the off topic boards there rather than the DW content.

My wife definitely and passionately disagrees with you btw. She gladly watched Season 1 and I daresay was even a bit randy after the episodes. Her displeasure with Tennant replacing him has been very vocal. She claims Eccleston is a man whereas Tennant seems to be the 'typical English wimp'. Which is ironic since Eccleston is English and Tennant is a Scot.

LOL ... he goes by ChrisTheS there and he posts a lot of 3D artwork. He tends to dislike the tone some people there have towards others with dissenting opinions. And since he tends to be in the minority most of the time (sometimes I think for the sake of being in the minority) he gets flamed a fair bit.

There is just "something" about Eccleston, I admit ... it's that whole tough guy scruffy thing a la Han Solo, I think. But Tennant cleans up pretty. Fantastic (LOL) facial expressions - his features are a lot more mobile than the 9th Doctor's.

I haven't run across him I'm afraid. I do most of my posting there in the Sports and Video Games forums, alsto the General Television and Popular Media forums. I save my actual Doctor Who posts for a smaller, more mature Doctor Who forum that I have been a member of longer. I'd be happy to provide a link. He may be happier there: there are still different opinions, but flaming isn't tolerated. As long as you are willing to expand upon your opinions (i.e. not saying something 'sucks' without giving an explanation). Fully-, half-, or even not-at-all-interested spouses and partners are also welcome and abundant there.

A lot of the fans, especially those who grew up in the Pertwee/Baker era's, prefer a more authoritarian characterization for The Doctor. Tennant apparently is the more vulnerable type, more along the lines of Troughton and Peter Davison, so I have found he isn't as popular with some of the fans for that reason. I intend to watch the upcoming season with an open mind. I was rooting for Tennant to get the part (based on his performance in the Big Finish Dalek audio plays he was in) and hope to really enjoy him.

As far as sexual attraction.. If I were gay, I think I would probably go for Eccleston over Tennant. Of course, if I was gay I think I would probably go for John Barrowman (Captain Jack) over either of them.

Sure, PM me the link or whatever and I'll pass it on to him (and maybe even take a look myself - I think I count as a half-interested-sometimes-annoyed-by-it spouse).

From what I've seen, Tennant starts off as an Eccleston clone until the writers actually start to give him his own personality. I don't like him when he's a clone (especially when he interacts with Rose - UGH) but when he's being his own personality I do like him quite a bit. Of course, I also really like Peter Davison as the Doctor rather than Tom Baker. (Maybe it's just the celery - I could totally see #10 pinning a stalk of celery to his jacket.)

I love Captain Jack. I hope they bring him back at some point - he's my favorite companion thus far, and I've seen a few.

Jack will be back for season 3, but I fear it will probably be a solo appearance rather than rejoining the TARDIS crew. I think it will be near the end of the season.

In the meantime he is the lead character of the forthcoming Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood. (Torchwood is an anagram of Doctor Who btw). I believe the season 2 finale was something of a setup for the Torchwood series.

Yes, I think Torchwood is on my husband's must-watch list when it does start airing... apparently "Torchwood" was how they labelled the Doctor Who production reels when they were in transit so they wouldn't be pirated. So sayeth my husband, anyway. LOL

Hi there....I love Dr Who have done since I was a kid in the Baker days Thought he was better than Davison.....have to say I love David Tennant as the Dr. He has his own unique sense of humour which I really enjoy.

Anyway they have just started showing Torchwood over here (BBC 3 Sunday nights). The first two episode last Sunday. I didn't know if I would enjoy them but soon got into them quickly....don't know if it's going over the pond though. Not one I'll be showing to Tinks (my 6 year old) who is a big Dr Who fan....though hides halfway up the stairs for most of the programme.

I think series 3 starts again in the new year over here....can't wait.

I loved the first series! There was a great chemistry between Christopher Ecclestone and Billie Piper. I didn't watch the second as we don't have a television in our house at the moment. I have only watched some of the old ones, but I don't remember them that well. But the new series are definitely good. Much better than any of that reality cr** that is always on TV.

Plus, you get to see my school in the 4th episode of the 1st series...it's the one with Charles Dicksens. Basically, since BBC Wales do the production, they tour around the country, and they chose Monmouth, the town I live in when not in London. I think some of my friends went along to watch the filming.
