Voice: moderately quiet and slightly higher than mid level

Other: her hair hangs to the middle of her back when it's not piled on top of her head (which it almost always is) her fingers are long and thin with nubs of nails to keep her from biting them (she will if she can) her face is narrow and her chin is a graceful point. Her nose is relatively small but straight. Her eyebrows are straighter than they are curved and are a much darker shade of brown than her hair, and her forehead is large. Her bones are slim and her waist tiny.

Skills: Nearly fluent in the old tongue, dances gracefully. She has a quick wit and is good with puzzles.

Knowledge Weakness: She knows a good deal of arithmetic but hates it. Absolutely hates copying lines.

Physical  Weakness: Has a small bump on her lip from hitting her chin and biting it.

Personality Weakness: Has a short temper that flares up a lot. Isn't good with criticism, even the constructive kind.

Quick witted and bright, with a bad temper. She is usually kind to everyone around her, except when her temper's about. Sly and deceitful, extremely good at Daes Dae'mar and though she is not so bad as others, strives to gain power and rank.  Her conscience is loud though and she could never kill or bid others to kill or do anyone physical harm for her.

 

History

 

Delaina was borne to a high ranking noble family. Her father is Haril Lerainest an esteemed nobleman who owns many lands and rights. Her mother died of childbirth to her younger brother when she was two. Her father has remarried since then, though it was only at the urgings of his brother who is dark deceitful and even slightly mad after all those years of The Game. However her does hold rank above her fathers and so her father was married to Edel Hatheritch who has brought them many lands and great wealth. For Delaina and her brother Galair it is torture. Their lives became endless schemes and plots and soon they knew Daes Dae'mar like they did their own names. At the age of nine Delaina was sent with her Ladies maids and Nanny into the country when her father had a large estate including a vineyard. Her brother also was sent away both to the north of Cairhien, where as Delaina was sent south.This was odd considering there were few nobles about and there was no way she could help to elevate herself or her family out here. That is until word reached her that her stepmother had given birth to twins a few months after she was sent away. They were boy and girl, Aliss and Jasper. Delaina knew she was forgotten, or at least her stepmother was trying to make it so. Delaina stayed in the country til she was thirteen when she was finely allowed to come back to the city. The only reason she was allowed was Edel was fixing to marry her the day she turned sixteen and left in the country for so long she would need time to recover and catch up in The Game. The twins were quite lovely and everyone admired their "silky smooth skin" and "dark deep eyes that sparkled so bright," Delaina on the other hand hated them. The summer Delaina turned fifteen the twins caught yellow fever and died. Edel was in hysterics and blamed Delaina for their deaths. When a sister found Delaina could learn to channel Edel sent her to the tower with a hope she would never return.

Fluent in the old tongue? Doesn't sound very likely to me, considering she is only 15 and has been kept in the country for some years. I thought it was rare to know the old tongue (let alone be fluent) unless you had an excellent education, or were taught at the tower.

 

Otherwise it's fine, rather abrupt history, but fine. :)

Old tongue is usually only taught within the WT and Aiel, i believe. only time it is useful are terms for battlement. I will double check on this. :)

Perfectly normal for people outside of either the WT or the Aiel to learn the Old Tongue.  Tairen nobility, for example, are all required to have at least a basic literacy and understanding of the language and many of them have more than that.  The same applies to most people in the Westlands that have had a high quality education, usually restricted to nobility or very rich merchant families (though there are naturally ways around this if you don't fit those categories).

 

Old Tongue is in many ways a parallel to Greek and Latin in Europe, in particular during the Renaissance period.  This continues well into the 1800's, for example a number of figures within US history like Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson were both highly educated in the classics, well versed in greek and latin texts because a lot of them were influential within the Enlightenment period.

 

Now that my historical parallel splurge is done, yes, its perfectly fine for her to have learned Old Tongue.  Having said that, from what I gather her education only really kicks in when she's thirteen when she returns to Cairhien because she has no way to elevate herself before then?  She could learn within a couple of years, but not near fluency. 

 

Easy fix, maybe have a family member at the farm she is dismissed to that takes Delaina's education into their own hands, like a grandmother or somesuch that got tired of the game.  Or the father arranges a tutor for her, anything is possible.

 

 

Lastly, because this bio has a noble background, it'll require a Freelander crosscheck.

It had been arranged for Amahra to continue Delaina's studies and lessons. Delaina loves her aunt and the two come to find they have alot in common.
