Twentieth Century Fox has set Reeves to star in the remake of the 1951 Robert Wise-directed sci-fi classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still" reports Variety.

 

Reeves committed over the weekend to play Klaatu, a humanoid alien who arrives on Earth accompanied by an indestructible, heavily armed robot and a warning to world leaders that their continued aggression will lead to annihilation by species watching from afar.

 

Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") is directing from a script by David Scarpa. A late fall or early 2008 start of shooting is planned.

When bad(but fun to watch) cult classics go worse...  That might make a decent reality tv show.

dam hollywierd and thier always wanting to do remakes.  for one thing in this case, i dont think it would have the same effect the original did.  at the time of the original we hadent gotten into space yet, now it just seems to me like it wouold just be boring.
