Donations for a Good Cause-- A Gaming Con for Our Troops

Hey there fellow DMers. I know we’ve already completed our service project for this year, but remember that April is National Volunteer and Service Month and so when we were asked by TarValon.Net to aid in this cause, Mother and I thought that we should do our part to rally our own “troops†to help.

Below is the official Press Release regarding the project. This is a Wonderful cause and something that I think a Lot of us can help with. Whether it’s sending in dice or even pitching in a dollar or two towards the purchase of other items, our Troops in Iraq will greatly appreciate the opportunity to be treated to this Con.

Please join me in putting together some Gamer Support and give a soldier a chance to be a Con Goer even when he’s stationed on a tour of duty. And remember, there’s a Deadline of May 15, 2007, so get going now if you’re going to send actual items!

I'm writing on behalf of TarValon.Net, as their Director of Communications. One of our missions is charitable work, and we have recently come upon a cause which we feel is both worthy of devotion and resonates with many of our members.

A gaming convention is being organized by American soldiers stationed in Iraq. This convention will consist of a number of different role playing games throughout the day. US Military, Allied Military and Contracted personnel are all being welcomed to the event. If you are interested in the particulars, an article has been written here:

Our community has a significant number of members and family in various international militaries. Because we are based upon Wheel of Time, a great many of us also appreciate the escapism one might find in gaming. We are thrilled that we have a chance to help out the soldiers, who likely have very stressful jobs, relieve some of that stress by giving them a day of relative normalcy. We are hoping that you can help us get the word out, so that they might have the best day possible.

The soldiers are greatly in need of donations consisting of gaming books, 4, 6, 10, and 20 sided dice, and other gaming supplies. As you might imagine, it is extremely difficult for them to obtain these in Iraq.

We are accepting PayPal donations through this email address: philanthropy@tarvalon.net.

Checks or physical donations can be sent to our Philanthropy Coordinator at the following address:

HM2 Thomas Ford

Food Services Department

Public Affairs Office

2601A Paul Jones St

Great Lakes, IL 60088-5000

In order that these donations might reach the soldiers in Iraq in time for their event, we are asking that all materials be received by no later than May 15. We understand that this is rather soon, and we appreciate your expediency in the matter. If it is within your ability to help in any way, through donations or promotion, we are very grateful for your assistance.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Musin

Director of Communications
