Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

Found out this minute.. I am so so sad. For more than 10 years I've had RJ's fantastic world in my thoughts and heart and my thoughts are now with his family. I have read books since I was 7 years old, for more than 20 years that is now, I studied litterature in Stockholm and Paris, and Robert Jordan is still number one. I am so sad. I am so thankfull.. All my love, Johanna

I am stunned and saddened by the loss of such a brilliant writer. I only found out just now that he had passed and I send my deepest sympathies to his family and friends. I have been reading the Wheel of Time series for about 10 years or so and have thoroughly enjoyed everyone of them. I feel that when you read a series as involved as the Wheel of Time you get to see a bit of the writer himself and therefore feel as though I have lost someone I knew. Mr. Jordan you will be missed.

As a 51 year old lawyer who has been reading WOT books since the very first one came out (in paperback—I’ve got several copies), and looked forward to each and every book with childlike anticipation, I’ve come to accept that my love of these books is more than a guilty pleasure. Recently, I amused myself by trying to list my 10 favorite books. I had to limit the entire WOT to one slot on the list. (I’d likely choose The Great Hunt if I chose only one from the series.) Now, I take pride in the variety (it would be even more pretentious to say “breadthâ€) of my reading, and as a result the WOT shared a place with the likes of Moby Dick and War and Peace. As each new volume in the series came out, I used it as an excuse to re-read the prior one, which I can’t imagine doing with any other series. I loved it that the books became such hits on the bestseller lists, as it validated my passion and assured continuation of the story. Mr. Jordan’s (I enjoy using the nom) accessibility was refreshing, even if he was quite a tease. More recently, I greatly admired his courage and determination (though unsuccessful) to fulfill our desire to have him complete the series. Mr. Jordan’s generosity to his readers will accrue to Mr. Sanderson as he takes on his challenging responsibility. We have been left an extraordinary legacy. I think I’ll go read one now.

OMG!I love the Robert Jordan books I have had to re read them like 8 times, and while I'm very excited for the arrival of A MEMORY OF LIGHT, I have to say that the new authors style will never quite be like Jordan's. I Egarly anticipat to know how the last battle goes! I hope Rand Does not Die ( he's my fav charcter even if he does make a fool of himself)I also have to admire how hard Robert Jordan did try to Finish it. In the one I finshed last night(THE LORD OF CHOAS) I got quote I really admire "We always may be more afraid then we wish, but We are always braver then we Expect" now we shall have to brave no matter how it turns out

I had the honour of meeting Mr. Jordan when he came to Victoria, BC, Canada for an autograph session several years ago, and I have to say it was a very memorable moment. He came across as incredibly thoughtful, humble and deeply soulful. He was kind enough to not only sign a couple of my WoT hardcovers, but humour a fan by allowing us to have our photo taken together. So I was very saddened to learn of his passing and wanted to pass along my sincerest condolences to his entire family. I'm sure it has been a tough couple of years and wish you all the best. I have thoroughly enjoyed the entire WoT series and know that Mr. Sanderson will do Mr. Jordan's memory honour by finishing the series with heart and light!

For a person I never had the opportunity to meet, the sorrow I feel is indescribable. The world has truly lost a gem. You will be fondly thought of with each page I turn.

The Wheel of Time book series was suggested to me in 8th grade. Since then I have not been able to find a fantasy series quite so much like this one. I use to run several online MUDs based off the Wheel of Time series. My friends and I enjoyed the fact that an environment as vast and rich as Mr. Jordan created, existed for us to participate in.

Robert Jordan, Rest In Peace, you have touched the lives of many including me. My sincerest condolences to your family.

Robert, like so many I have 11 moments in my life that we have crossed. One as a young RN sailor writing, asking for information about the next book, only to be sent a free moment that went a round the ship and kept us all sane. June 2008 is when I knew. Some people still do not know. These people will be sad later. My condolences to your family and friends.

I only just found out now that Mr Jordan has passed away. My sympathy gos out to his family and friends.

Robert Jordans work in the WOT series inspires me and encourages me to be a better man. The romance, the heroics and the epic battles all written in such detail that i feel like im living the adventure. I get lost in his books.

You will truly be missed in this dark world where you shone your light.

RIP Mr Jordan, your books will always be in my bookcase and i will be reading them to my future childrens children.

Thankyou

Matt

Like so many others, I learned long after the fact of Mr Jordan's departure from this turn of the Wheel. My deepest condolences to his family and friends. This world is truly a much poorer place without him. I regret never having the opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to him directly. Many authors write stories, few create worlds; Robert Jordan created a world that will live on as long as books exist. It was an honour to share the adventure.

Finally finished Knife of Dreams after reading and rereading all books that go before it (including New Spring). Hearing of Robert Jordan's passing truly saddens me. In the Wheel of Time series I found exactly what I've been searching for in a story for years. I could quite literally continue reading this series if he was alive and working up to a 20th installment. There was never a sense of dragging a story on in his writing. I hope the author finsihing the 12th book can successfully tie the story up in one book, but I would much prefer Jordan was alive to write 12 more. I anxiously await to read the fate of all the full characters and unfinished subplots he has created.

While idly waiting for a computer download to finish I started wondering about the final Wheel of Time book (it's been a long time coming!) and thought I'd have a look on Wikipedia to see where it's up to. I'm deeply saddened to read about Robert Jordan's death - I had absolutely no idea. I've been following the Wheel of Time for years and his books have given me so much pleasure. The anticipation of waiting for each new book, and the joy at each new release feel as though they've been constantly with me through my adolescence and early adulthood. I want to extend my sympathies to his family and friends. I only knew him through his books but I will still feel his loss.

I think I'm going to re-read all of his books, and have a bit of a cry. He was and is one of my all-time favourite authors - that's never going to change.

I first started this series in October of 1990 while serving in the U.S. Army with the 1/18th Infantry during Operation Desert Shield/Storm. I was able to read book one and when I returned state side my obsession with the wheel of time continued. I currently work at a Juvenile Detention Center and have encouraged many Juveniles to read various books. But by far the best has been the wheel of time series. I have bought the entire series to date more then four times to let these children enjoy the world of Robert Jordan and will continue to do so. With Mr Jordan's passing the world has lost in my mind the greatest fantasy adventure writer of all time. He has surpassed the hobbits, the dragonriders and the shannara's by leaps and bounds when it comes to drawing in the reader and captivating them. I have read the books at least 5 times and will read them again to my son when he gets older and hope that he will do the same. I am just glad that I was given a chance to read this series and am thankful for all that Mr. Jordan has done for me and for all. He will be missed.
