Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

I first discovered "The Wheel of Time" in 1992 while I served in the Navy. I bought the first three books before I went on a three month deployment on a ballistic missle submarine. There is not much to do on a submarine, so I picked three of the thickest books I could find. I thought Robert Jordan's writing was wonderful! I was stationed in Charleston at the time, and when I got back I searched the local bookstores for any other volumes. I was fortunate enough to purchase an autographed copy of his fourth book. My wife and I never had any children, but if we had had a son, I would have named him Robert Jordan. I prayed for him when I learned of his illness a few months ago. I had recently finished book 11, and I was looking for news of when the next one was due. I remember thinking then, "I hope he is able to finish book 12." Not for me, but for him. I know he wanted to finish the book for his fans. Harriet, my prayers and the prayers of all of Jim's fans around the world are with you. We are all deeply saddened by his passing, and we will miss him. I for one feel truly priveledged to have been a part of the world that he created. He left a piece of Rand, Mat, and Perrin in each of us. In doing so, he left a piece of himself as well.

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind always be at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

and rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

With much love and deepest sympathy, Steven Catoe, Thibodaux, LA

My parent always encouraged me to read, they gave me many books they had read themselves. Each and every one of them was recommended to me, and they were fine books indeed. One day, on a trip somewhere, I saw The Dragon Reborn on a book shelf, and something happened. I inmediately went for it and bought it without a second thought, and as I began the book, I realized quite quickly what a priceless piece of literature i had stumbled into. It sent my imagination flying, and as I was going through a tough time in my life, that soaring flight was much appreciated.

Mr. Jordan's great words kept me company. At times when my real life was hard to bear, I would dwelve into a world were my dearest friends: Rand, Perrin, Matt were always there, going through tough choices, and enjoying wild adventures. No obstacles, no regrets, just my soul and an open book where i could be as free as I chose.

For the past 6 years i have been following this magical, intricate world where things are worth fighting for, and Mr. Jordan: It has been one hell of a ride. On behalf of myself, and all the past versions of myself that you touched, i thank you. May the place you are in be as magical as the place you led us through. Farewell old friend.

God effing damn. Just pulled Eye of the World of the shelf, decided to start another reading of the cycle. Decided to go online and see if there was any news on the last book, see if Jordan's illness was getting better. Thought for a fleeting minute that it would be ironic if he only died a few weeks ago. Effing A. Sometimes irony bites you in the ass. He'll be missed.

It is with great sadness in my heart that I write this, and although I know that he knew that he touched countless lives with his imaginative stories, it's another thing entirely that I didn't get to ever tell RJ in person what it meant to me. I can vividly remember the day that I was browsing the Fantasy section of a local bookstore and someone, not a store employee but just another person who obviously enjoyed great literature handed me a book called "Eye of the World" by an author I'd never heard of; I think this was about 15 years ago. The series truly ignited my passion for reading, not just fiction, but reading of all sorts, and for that RJ I'm eternally indebted to you and your imagination. You will be missed and my condolences go out to your loved ones.

Robert's pasing came as a big shock to me. He was fighting his illness with such determination I was sure he would survive it. His books have touched me in more ways than I even now realize.

A great writer and storyteller has passed on to the Creator, but he will not be forgotten. His books will always be there, too inspire, influence and dazzle readers around the world.

Thank you James Rigney, for being there for us.

My deepest condolences to his family and loved ones. We will miss him.

I just found out today an am horrified at this news I can only hope that those close to him can find peace without him. Without ever knowing him personally he still touched my and my families lives with his works of Literature which shame The Lord of The Rings, Tale of Two Cities, Moby Dick, they all must fall in his masterpieces shadow. Thank you for your work I wish it could have ended with a happier ending.

I recieved the first WoT book as a gift from my mother back in what must have been the 7th grade. I am now in my 6th year of college, and still reading the series.

Im sorry to hear that RJ has passed. All this time Ive been thinking, "Whats the hold-up with his books?!", and now I feel like a complete schmuck. I had no idea.

RJ gave me my imagination back. I had lost it as a child after seeing the 1989 Bay Area earthquake literally rip my house and my family in half, but after reading his books, I remembered how to create with my mind... thank you, RJ.

It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Robert Jordan. Surely the world will be a duller place without his great imagination and skill as a story teller. Though his work has been copied, it has never been equalled. The Wheel Of Time turns and surely when the next cycle arrives, you will be here to brighten the lives of countless millions once again. 'Til then Robert, Rest in peace. My sincere condolences to the family, friends and all who loved him.

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again."

The legend and legacy of this great man will never be forgotten. Allow him, the true Dragon, to ride again on the winds of time.

My deepest condolences

May the Light shelter you in all your works.

I can only offer the condolences of a stranger to a man beloved by many and it feels like such a small thing. Yet we know from him that the works of one stranger are still worth something. RJ brightened the lives of everyone who read his work. My sincerest condolences to all who loved him.

Rest in Peace, Robert Jordan.

This is a terrible tragedy! The man brought joy to so many people with his stories. His stories always gave me a positive outlet when my life was too stressful. Words cannot express how amazing it was to read his work. There were many a late night spent following the journey of Rand, Mat, and Perrin. Robert Jordan's books were one of the few things I looked forward to with the little free time I have. I hope his wife, Harriet, and the rest of his family and friends know how special he was to so many of us. He will be greatly missed. I read alot of fantasy but he was the Michael Jordan of today's Fantasy writing. "Life is a dream from which we all must wake before we can dream again." -Amys "May the hand of the Creator shelter you, and the last embrace of the Mother welcome you home" -Borderlands saying
