Sometimes even when you've fought your best....

Guest Wilson

It is with great sadness that I tell you that the Dragon is gone. RJ left us today at 2:45 PM. He fought a valiant fight against this most horrid disease. In the end, he left peacefully and in no pain. In the years he had fought this, he taught me much about living and about facing death. He never waivered in his faith, nor questioned our God's timing. I could not possibly be more proud of anyone. I am eternally grateful for the time that I had with him on this earth and look forward to our reunion, though as I told him this afternoon, not yet. I love you bubba.

Our beloved Harriet was at his side through the entire fight and to the end. The last words from his mouth were to tell her that he loved her.

Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers and support through this ordeal. He knew you were there. Harriet reminded him today that she was very proud of the many lives he had touched through his work. We've all felt the love that you've been sending my brother/cousin. Please keep it coming as our Harriet could use the support.

Jason will be posting funeral arrangements.

My sincerest thanks.

Peace and Light be with each of you,

Wilson

To Catalyst: Never, never loose faith. RJ did not. Harriet hasn't. I haven't. Going through what we have, our faith is only strengthened. Besides, if God didn't exist, we would have never had Jim. We did. God does. Remember my Brother/Cousin, my friend, think of him fondly and glorify God's name.

Editor's Note:

The entire staff of Dragonmount.com would like to extend its most deepest sympathies to Robert Jordan's family. He touched all of our lives in some way and we wish him the rest and peace he deserves. We will be posting information in the near future about where you can send condolences. Please check the News Section for these updates.

The gleeman has put down his harp and hung up his cloak. May he rest peacefully until the Wheel blesses us by spinning him out again. My heart grieves for the storyteller who soared above all and left even Tolkien in his shadow. It pains me that AMOL will not be 100% from his pen alone but I know that it will be done justice. But even such a thought seems horribly selfish on my behalf when his family has lost the source of such Light. My deepest condolences to those who had the honour of calling him family and friend.

Oh how we have lost a wonderful person. Harriet and family: we grieve with you. He touched so many lives and will continue to do so with his books. There has never been, nor there ever will be, another like him. It feels like I have lost a friend. There are no words that I can truly express the loss I feel. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. Keep strong, hold together, love each other. Your other "family" are thinking of you

I've read the blogs since they started, but I've rarely, if ever, posted anything. I just want to say that I am mostly touched by Wilson's testimony that God does exist. I am saddened by Mr. Rigney's passing, but I too know that he is in a better place, and that his family will see him again. It is hard to believe, but good to know that God is ultimately in charge.

My thanks and condolences to the Jordan family. Your courage and fight will be remembered for a long time by any who witnessed it.

May he find peace until next he is spun from the Pattern.

I am stunned. Something within me died with you, RJ. You were truly an inspiration to all of us and I know I speak for everyone when I say that I hope you're in a better place. You led a legion of fans with your writing, and we will never forget you. Even though you may be gone from us, you will live on in our hearts.

When my grandmother passed away from amyloidosis, I read this poem at her funeral.

Henry von Dyke, 'A Parable of Immortality'

"I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, 'There she goes!'

Gone where? Gone from my sight ... that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, 'There she goes!' there are other eyes watching her coming and their voices ready to take up the glad shouts 'Here she comes!'"

We know you have people waiting and watching for you where you're going, RJ, and although you are gone from us, you are just arriving to all of those people waiting.

From a devoted fan on behalf of all others

Similar to Hugh's comments above, RJ through his work has been a significant part of my life for nigh on 12 years now and I am deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Ta'veren in his own way, RJ has touched the lives of thousands of people with his eloquence.

Thank you Mr Jordan for sharing your stories with us.

It may seem strange to read this as it doesn't directly contain my condolences (those are above in another post) but it occurred to me that I hadn't previously mentioned something important, at least to me and, I guess, a lot of other fans. I first started reading the Wheel of Time when I was 15 or 16 (and I'm now 32). Despite all the changes in my life during that time, the process of maturation, falling ill, losing somebody close, relationships starting and relationships ending, all the usual things that can occur over the course of 16 or 17 years. And yet JR/RJ's WoT remained a constant in my life, a work to be read each year, a work to discover something new in every time it was read and something to look forward to, to see how the story would unfold.

The blog and the unfolding story of JR/RJ's works and illness kept a hungry and caring audience apprised of what was going on in a way that would be unimaginable for other authors, or even celebrities, and in many ways meant that the fans felt closer to JR than would otherwise have been the case, and the hope of JR beating the illness, sadly ended, expressed by the fanbase was something that was truly awe-inspiring to see. JR/RJ's works may have attracted their share of critiscm, justly or unjustly, but the overall scope of his work was magnificent and I think it can be truly said that JR/RJ was both an author and a man who only comes once a generation and a loss that will be both subtle and terrible, especially for his family but also for the world as a whole.

I feel like a part of me died as well today. I have been reading his stories since the day they were first published and although I am sad that RJ had to pass on, at the same time I am happy that he was a man of faith and knew that he was only going on to something better.

Based on his faith and mine I am happy for him, but sad for us. I will miss knowing that every couple of years or so I could look forward to sitting down with one of his books and continuing the journey.

My best wishes and prayers to his family and friends.

My deepest condolences. I would suspect he'd consider this to be another begining, not an ending.

We've lost one of the greatest authors of our time. I believe greater than Tolken....

I just read that Robert Jordan is dead, and I was shocked. Very sad, I really loved his Wheel of Time universe. May he rest in peace, this fantastic author.

R.I.P. Robert Jordan, one of the greatest authors that ever lived. Your memory lives on in our hearts.

"The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a wind rose.... The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of time. But it was a beginning."

Robert Jordan's death isn't the end. But it's an end. A very sad one.
